I am still reading Opening Moves and enjoying it. This is one series that does not let down. Much of this is the back story to the books, but, this time, instead of getting bits and pieces we get the full monty.

It's a good read and there's a wonderful quote I have to look back up about choice.

Good series by Steven James.

I should finish up with The Affair on audio tonight. I am currently reading Anna Dressed in Blood, and it's very good. Definitely recommended for fans of the tv show Supernatural, or readers who enjoy UF/horror with male POV.

I finished Opening Moves and I've started a classic Action/Adventure. The Lost Continent by Edgar Rice Burroughs. It's better than I remembered and, I think, better written than the first round of Barsoom (John Carter of Mars). These became a series of movies (Made for TV I think) that, for the nature of what they were, pulp-sci-fi, turned out pretty good too.

The hero gets tongue tied when talking to pretty girls...heh... so, lets just say we have something in common already?

I LOVED Odd Thomas. I think it was the best of that series, but I liked them all. Somehow the ending sneaked up on me. As someone said, "Sad, but not disappointing." I haven't been sure Odd was alive since the second book. I love Koontz's writing. Some books more than others. I have to be in the mood to become completely enmeshed. Which I usually am by Koontz. His stand alone 'Velocity'is the fastest moving book I have ever read. Every scene is unexpected. And I think he has a gentle outlook on people and a wonderful attitude towards women.

I'm still a Twilight Eyes fan, but you could add Phantoms and, strangely I thought Lightning was really good for what might have been a 'been there done that' time travel thing. If you'll pardon the expression. For Pace, The Servants of Twilight moved pretty fast.

The Dark horse that people tend to forget, but I liked was Darkfall.

I tend to like the older Koontz... most people identify with his more modern reads.

I finished The Affair, and I gave it four stars. That Reacher is quite a character.

I started An Island Between Two Shores, which is a survival theme historical AA with a female lead. So far, so good.

It could be timing of my first read, but I just liked it. I always wondered why this didn't become one of those Supernatural/Horror/Sci-fi/Fantasy based TV shows with lots of conspiratol issues.

He reads all of the Reacher novels and you are right it kind of makes you feel like you are getting sex lessons from a ninety year old. Not that he's that old but his voice doesn't sound like it should be doing that. OK I'm starting to not make sense even to myself but I totally understand what you are saying.

I've finished The Land That Time Forgot and moved on to The People That Time Forgot by Edgar Rice Burroughs. I'm reading his Caspak series. If you like reading classics, this is a really good story, very fitting the Action Adventure genre, even Sci-fi, there are reflections of other works in this, and this in other works, right down to James Rollins Excavation and some notable others. It's a classic, and a forerunner to the modern Adventure Stories, so, of course there are reflections, but some run truer than others.

I enjoyed this right up to 3/4 of the way in and then because its pretty lengthy put it down for a day or so and then couldnt be bothered to pick it back up. Skim read the rest later but I ought to re read it really.

Eileen So far not a great reading month for me. I've had good intentions with Carrion Comfort by Dan Simmons it's well written, just very long. I just can't seem to get into it. Putting it aside till later.

All his books move fast, but 'Velocity' take the prize. From the name, I would guess that might have been his goal for the book.

I'm an "early" Koontz fan myself. My most re-read are Strangers and Watchers, but I own and occasionally re-read both Twilight Eyes and Lightning. Also, I liked Tick-Tock ... bloodly but not as grim as many and a rare (for Koontz) twist of humor.

I've never been able to get into his later books though I've tried several and finally just gave up.

Out of Time's Abyss the third of the Caspak Trilogy by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Oh boy, maybe it's a sign that I've read a lot of these lately (Classics) but, ERB's Bowen Tyler (Named after ERBs father), Tom Billings, seemed much the same in sensibilities and attitude (as they should given their character histories). It's wonderful to see a guy like Bradley come along with his "Stating the Obvious" comments and practical "lets deal with the next 15 seconds" reptilian (but very good hearted) brain.

Bradley is likely how ERB saw himself when they tried to snatch him out of the rough country of Idaho and make him go to college in New England. I like classics, but few of the characters become so endearing so quickly as Bradley "...you can't kill ghosts with bullets!..." and in response to do you belong to so-and-so..."That's what he thinks."

Don't let any one set of books by ERB make up your mind about what you'll read before you test it. Dive in and swim through each one. They are not the same.

I've even laughed at the story of Bradley, (which was likely "told" by someone else, in the third person, because the other two "Gentlemen" kept diaries. I'm not sure everyone would recognize Bradley as a gentleman at a dinner party.)

Here's an action adventure in the fantasy realm that's short but fun. (Written in 1910)

I liked it.

Slaying Dragons... can't get more action adventure fantasy than that huh? Is this a precursor to MHI?
