Death, Taxes, and a French Manicure so far is a fun fast read. Tara is my kid of gal.
I'm enjoying Ramage by Dudley Pope. It's not quite what I imagined, but it's fun, cute and with a little of everything (Romance, Action, Legal intrigue etc.) Pope's got a good sense of humor and, for me, it's set in my old stomping grounds, both at sea, and on land. Some of the sayings are classics.
Quote of the day:
"as for the married woman, that was more tingling below the sword belt and heavy breathing above, certainly not love."

For anyone interested, Dudley Pope, author of "Ramage" is a protegee' of C.S. Forester who wrote the Horatio Hornblower Novels. The first book, which I'm reading now, was published in 1965. The last book, in 1985. He's a pretty cool Dude for a Guy named Dudley.
THis is a very pleasant story.

FYI, I cleaned up the review I wrote on
. Wow, that was a mess... I still think it's hosed but, I'll let it be for now...probably.

Your review was very good, Hugh!
I finished Element Zero and I didn't like it that much. It's highly rated here on Goodreads, so it might just be a mis-match for me. The writing was good, I just found it too dreary and dark. Good action bits, from beginning to end.

How can a talented writer who has previously hooked me not be so stunning? What happens to them? This is a serious question.
I almost gave up, but I need the foundation for future books which I am hoping I will like better.

Thank you Lady D. I'll be nicer to myself...but I'm still embarrassed by the typos... (and the ones that are STILL there. (sigh)... just call me Sisyphus)

I also finished Death, Taxes, and a French Manicure. This was definitely a book I would call a chic lit. Some guys would like it but mostly it was for the ladies. One of my favorite lines in the book was, "I strapped my holster over my polka dot panties." Next time I go undercover I'll know where to conceal my gun...lol.

Love the quote! Boy, what dark, nasty and naughty places a Retired Sailor could go with that! LOL.
I have no idea what I'm reading next. I need to decide. It's almost time to drive home!

If I start that, I'm going to be finished with it before I'm supposed to start it. It's kind of like one of those time travel conundrum things. You know if I whopped my ancestor in the head and he married the girl next door instead of the woman he was gonna marry...a massive chain reaction might happen and I'd read Excavation in March instead of now...
or something like that... I'm a little fuzzy on my time travel... I'll have to do some more studying.

It's okay, stand down from General Quarters (Battle Stations if your British or on a Federation Starship) I started reading Snake Skin br C.J. Lyons.

I have a theory that were time travel possible we could only travel into the future...
Anyway I'm currently really enjoying the Anthony Horrowitz Sherlock Holmes novel.

It sounds good, I'll have to add it to my TBR list.

Okay in the last 2.5 days I've completed the first 2 Gray Man novels: The Gray Man
and
On Target. If I didn't have commitments tomorrow and things to do tonight I'd move right on to the third Ballistic, which I already have waiting.
My only complaint so far is that there's only 3 novels (again, so far). If the third is anywhere near as satisfying as the first 2 (and these are straight "actioners" no subtlety, no touchy feely, just gunfire, explosions, blood and sweat) I'll probably pick up anything Greaney writes as soon as it comes out.

Halfway done with Seed it doesn't have any action in it, a good horror story so far.

I'm more than halfway through Snake Skin, which is a police procedural/crime novel, but it has a strong female protagonist who happens to be married with a 12 year old daughter. Of course, I should have known about the snakes... yep... the ol' Kindle Text to Speech had me wiggling in my seat a couple of times.
(sigh) had to be snakes (like I couldn't have guessed from the title?)

Just finished the last Vince Flynn. Picked up a few more library books yesterday (sigh) just started Raylan
. I wanted to get into
Ballistic but I own it so...library books first.

Then I started The Sisters Brothers. I really like it so far.

I finished Snake Skin, it turned pretty Action oriented towards the end, (pace, plot and feel of the read) though I'd characterize it as primarily a Crime Novel.
Likeable, if a bit neurotic, protaganist, but she's in charge, willing to take risks, a mother, wife, undercover agent and "finer than frog hair".
and I couldn't help myself. I started Excavation.. I know, couldn't wait a day though. Bad, bad naughty Hugh, start book a day early...(those of you who are Python/Holy Grail fans, fill in the blanks for those who aren't.)

Thanks Sharon for reminding me of Wilbur A. Smith. I have only read one of his books When the Lion Feeds, but really enjoyed it. I need to read more of his and The Sunbird sounds really good!

I've finished Ramage, and Snake Skin and have reviews posted on them. I've also finished Excavation and I'm waiting to post a review there, coming soon.
I just started on The Burning Skywhich certainly qualifies as adventure, and opens with a lot of action. It's in the Steampunk/Fantasy end of things. I'm about 40% of the way through it and enjoying it. Not perfect but fun, so far.

Still haven't read anything by Lee Child, which I'll have to remedy real soon.
Relic is good. I liked it a lot. And the B movie was one of the better B flicks out there. Not bad in fact.
Just started State of Wonder by Ann Patchett.
Still working on Sharpe's Tiger by Bernard Cornwell, but can't seem to get into it yet.

Finished 20,000 leagues under the sea and started Lucy Guiardino #2Blood Ties by CJ Lyons. I loved the first one. Good female hero. A bit neurotic but good.

I started A Devil in the Details and I'm definitely enjoying it. The hero is a modern knight/samurai who fights demons to free people who make deals with them.
aaah...Dresden-San! coool.
I finished blood ties. It's got some dark subject matter, but it's actually a really good read and if you stick with it, you are rewarded with character redemption. I liked the first one, love the second one for different reasons and Lucy Guiardino should go on the strong female heroine list!
I'm not starting on Swan Song by Robert R. McCammon. It's another one with some dark and gory details, but it's also well written with some wonderful descriptions and unusual characters.
