A month ago, I bought ten books from Amazon. The first one, A Short History..., was fascinating, but tedious. I moved to two Lee Child novels, The Hard Way and The Affair. It was like reading something written by an ungifted teenager. I switched to The Litigators by Grisham. I tossed it after fifty pages. I'd found an older James Lee Burke, Purple Cane Road, and started that. What a difference. Burke can write. His characters are sanctimonious, but the prose is delightful. I'm prejudiced--I think I've read all his novels, but I'm still amazed.

Hi Sheri, I've read the first two of Jack Reacher, and want to read more.
You also might like The Watchman by Robert Crais. That's a good series.
We have room for a lot here and lots of varying tastes. It's good to see you!

Wow, and this is just the introduction thread. I believe there is a thread for Jack Reacher (Childs)
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/6...
I think you'll find more Jack Reacher Fans there, and an opportunity to express a different opinion on the Jack Reacher stories.
If you are a writer, Larry, we have a thread I started where I can post your name and books on the list with others who are members and also writers like I have for others in this group. Feel welcome to start a "Promotion" on the promotion space if you like.
as for Jack Reacher, there are plenty of people that like Child's books here, and I'm sure more than a one or two who don't.
I enjoyed the first two of the series. I tend to not worry about the opinions of others when I like book. Hell, it's not like I was reading it to them.
If there is a desire to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of Child's Jack Reacher stories, anyone may use the threads that are there, or, if you like, I'll help start a thread for discussion.

It's not, but, I'll go ahead and set one up for you.
Here is a thread for you and your fans (and anyone who wishes to) to discuss books (of course you are welcome to be a fan of your own books). Feel free to advertise blogs and other things here if you like.

Roger, I deleted your advertising post. The intro thread isn't the place for it. If it's A/A, feel free to post it under promotions. Thanks.

I actually joined about a month ago but realized I never posted here...oops!
Like everyone here I'm sure, I'm a book addict. I love to read action/adventure thrillers, some fantasy, young adult, paranormal. My favourite is action/adventure though, with my favourite authors in this genre being James Rollins, Jeremy Robinson, Matthew Reilly, Boyd Morrison, plus others. I especially love 'science thrillers'.
It's great to be in a group where members like many of the same books as I do, to talk about them, and also get suggestions for new authors/books!

Hi Allison, welcome! I'm glad your here. In fact, I've read books from everyone on your short list there but one. (and you'll like Monster Hunters International.)
Have you read Event by David L. Golemon?
Have you read Event by David L. Golemon?

No I haven't read Event yet, although I do have it, plus a few more in the series. I want to, but I've sooooo many books on my 'to read' list it's ridiculous! (probably around 250 or so).
I'm currently reading Ice Hunt by James Rollins, and may read MHI next. But I hope to get to Event soon, as I've read some good things about it here as well.
Ice Hunt is another Good one. (one of my favorite non Sigmna-force Rollins Novel) I really enjoyed it. I hope you are. I've got a review on Event. I enjoyed it a lot too. More than "pulse" by Jeremy Robinson, but that was fun too. (I liked Pulse, just liked Event better.)
Tux..hmm... "The names Mudgeon...Cur Mudgeon."
Okay, that day dream went over like a wagon with square wheels. I'm going back to faded T-shirt and jeans.
Formal and I don't get along.

Great, you and mike will look like escapee's from the top of a wedding cake.
and mike, I knew you had a romantic bone in you... somewhere... deep down ... in a very dark place.

but endearing right... hopeless but endearing? (wow, I'll add that to my list of epitaphs to pick from for later... much later....(I hope.)

I haven't really branched out into many other action thrillers. Didn't mind The Da Vinci Code, but some of them can be a bit too cliched. If anyone can suggest a good 'un, I'd be happy to hear about it.

You've picked the right place. You'll be getting plenty of good suggestions around here. I would suggest anything by Robert Crais. Any of his Joe Pike/Elvis Cole series, the first one in the series is The Watchman.
Welcome, Stephen! I agree with Eileen about Robert Crais. I think if you like Reacher, you'll like Joe Pike.
Welcome Stephen. I'm in with Robert Crais... it's like Lady D says, if you like Reacher, you'll like Pike!

newcool. Now we can g "who knew knew new? Hugh....Hugh knew new? That's who. ". ((Yeah, I have a few Sheds books at home. ))

In the real world I'm a police officer (12 years now), husband, father etc. I'm a movie buff, gun collector - especially older Colt and S&W revolvers, and I actually enjoy working in the yard and I like being at home. Oh and I like to read books.
Checkman, welcome! Those books certainly work well with me. I think Maclean is great! Glad to see you here.
