Welcome, Chaitra! Traveling, books, and lists are three things I love, too. I'm so glad you have found our group!
Dear friends! I'm Vijayalakshmi from Chennai, India. My quest to travel is fulfilled by books as I have less opportunity to go on trips I enjoy my adventure with these books. I know I am going to enjoy my ride here with you all.

Hi, Vijayalakshmi! I am so happy to have you join our group! We have quite a few members in the group from India. I love how we are reading a lot of the same books while being scattered in all parts of the world!
Yes, Diane! All these years I have been randomly reading books but from now onward I am going to follow a pattern so that I cover all the places and also know a glimpse about the people, culture, politics and many more. Thanks for bringing this thought in me.

I'm a keen reader of travel books, especially the comedy variety, and am trying to be a travel writer as well. Sigh! Aren't we all?
I'm 33, a bloke, currently living in Australia, where I emigrated in December after spending the last 7 years bouncing around he world. (That's a lot more painful than it sounds, as most of the world is quite hard to land on).
I love to read - far more than I love to write! - and I love to travel. Things I hate: stopping reading, stopping travelling, stopping drinking - and getting out of bed. Especially if I'm reading and/or drinking in there...
I'm also absurd. Well, if that's grammatically possible?
Okay. An idiot. That'll do :0)
Hi all!
Tony

:D Welcome! Well, you are funny and I hope your writing is too. Can you share any of it with us?

Welcome to the group, Tony! I look forward to hearing about your travel adventures!

Oh yeah, there's a short extract from the book on my website here:

And there's a free sample downloadable from Amazon, if you search for 'That Bear Ate My Pants!'

Thanks for welcoming me to the group!
Tony

Hang on - let me see if I can get a link...

Yay! There ya go - done it!
Enjoy :0)

Working on my next settings now :). Look forward to meeting everyone! Come friend me :)
Jan Moran

Hi, Jan! Welcome to the group! I am so glad you can join us. I look forward to seeing your upcoming book!

I'm single and work in medical research. I don't get to travel as much as I like, but hopefully that will change someday.
Looking forward to reading with all of you!

Welcome to the group, Suzanne! You should feel right at home with all of us other lovers of reading and travel! I'm so glad you found our site and kudos to whoever mentioned us!

I'm Claire and I recently--well it's been a year, so maybe no longer recently--retired. I alternate among my four interests: travel, reading, knitting and quilting. I started out with introductions, so have yet to find out what the challenge is all about, but I like world literature. Besides liking books set in other countries (I am in Portland, OR, USA) I especially like books written by authors from those countries.

I'm 34 (yikes! When did that happen?), married to my best friend and currently unemployed. Spent years working in the mortgage industry (please - don't yell at me, it's not my fault, I swear it!) and got burned out in February. I've been taking some much needed time off to clear my head, but need to get back to the real world soon (I want to travel at least a bit and that does require coinage).
As for what I like to read, well, it's a mix, but I love romance, memoirs, well, anything that is character driven. I call it people watching, but I like to see how people react to different things, cultures and emotions, and seeing their environment is always interesting as well. Looking forward to finding more books to add to Mount TBR!

Welcome to the group, Shelly! We would love to have you travel with us!

Parikhit from India. Stumbled upon this group and couldn't be more thankful to a friend who made this possible. As a kid I used to cite travelling as one of my hobbies but that never materialised. I guess I will never travle physically but that hasn't hindered me from virtually travelling. This group was exactly what I was looking for.
I am 25 and I work in the software industry (don't be mad at me for I am a part of the industry that takes up outsourced work). But I wish to breakfree from this soon. Teaching is my calling, I have realised.
Looking forward to a great trip here.

Welcome, Parikhit!

I hope you enjoy them, Claire. She writes beautifully and about a part of the world I know very little about.

I have

Let's see... I'm from the US and live in North Carolina. Some of my favorite authors: Neil Gaiman (my very favorite-- I guess he could count for either Britain or the US depending on the book), Khaled Hosseini (seems he's popular here, too), and I like lots of fantasy stuff in general. If anyone has any good magical realism/fantasy books for certain countries, that would be right up my alley! Anyway, looking forward to making a list and starting the challenge!

We would love to hear from you if you enjoy our books, or would like to recommend any.

Welcome, Dana! You listed some of my favorite authors. I have not read any of Forna's books yet, but hope to soon.

Welcome, Rachel! I was just thinking earlier this week what a tough job it must be to be a massage therapist. I wouldn't have the hand strength for it. There really are a lot of good books and authors from Turkey. That's a great place to start.

Hi, Karen! Welcome to the group! Paris is probably the place I want to see most.

Welcome, Kat! There are a lot of great magic realism books in world lit from all over, especially in Latin American countries. Some magical realism authors that come to mind are: Gabriel García Márquez, Isabel Allende, Laura Esquivel, Carlos Ruiz Zafón, Haruki Murakami, Jorge Luis Borges, Italo Calvino, Salman Rushdie, and Juan Rulfo.

Thanks for the link, Halban!

I am Evy, live in the Netherlands and currently doing my research internship.
I love to read (English or Dutch books). Unfortunately I do not always have the time to do that. I read mostly thriller/mystery books. However, I want to broaden my horizon by reading other genres from other countries. This club seems to be a good place to start to look for recommendations. So I will look around.
I am currently reading The Surgeon by Tess Gerritsen (Dutch edition). Books by Carlos Ruiz Zafón, Jussie Adler-Olsen and Stieg Larsson are on my soon-to-read list.

Welcome to the group, Evy!

I set up my USA Roadtrip post last night, based on what I've read since Oct. 2011, and will be setting up my Frequent Flyer post (which will be much shorter, unfortunately) today.

I am in retail management and work long hours on my feet and I absolutely love to curl up (off my feet) and read a good book with my little dog in my lap.

Welcome, Candace! I'm so glad you have joined our group!

Welcome, Jeannine! There's nothing better than curling up with a good book and a good dog. I recently purchased The Lemon Tree: An Arab, a Jew, and the Heart of the Middle East for my Kindle, but haven't read it yet. I have heard really good things about it.

Welcome, Michelle! I really, really miss New England, especially with day after day 100 degree plus weather. You can travel along with us in between your real trips. There's always room for one more and we don't charge extra for your luggage.

Lora, I have recently discovered Audiobooks.com For a flat monthly rate, you can download and listen to an unlimited amount of audiobooks. The selection isn't quite as big as Audible, but there still is quite a bit to choose from. I am thinking of signing on for a couple of months after I listen to the audiobooks I have on hand at home.

Welcome, Tracy! St. Vincent and the Grenadines - I am SO jealous! It is one of the next countries on my list to travel to. I love your kitty. I have three, myself. There's nothing I like better than curling up with a good book and a bad cat.
