I loved those series. Riordan does an excellent job of integrating myth into the modern and making characters you can really get on board with.

Those books are addicting. They look really intimidating, but the pages fly by. I only made it three books into the series, but they were hard to put down.

Risse | 5 comments I'm currently reading Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk and The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger . Haunted is extremely graphic but I like the story line so far. the characters stories are all interesting and i find myself wanting to know their back stories more than what happens at the theater. I'm still on chapter 2 in the catcher adn the rye... its not as interesting as i htought it would be and slightly disappointing. I'll pick it up eventually though haha

Alicia (amazingact21) Ana wrote: "I recently (well...I guess that depends on your definition of recently) finished The Talisman and now I'm reading the sequel, Black House. So far it seems like the two books are from totally differ..."

I completely agree. I loved The Talisman, but I wasn't a huge fan of Black House. It felt like two different writing styles, and a part of me felt like the main character was too different from his former self in the Talisman. Not sure if you've read them, but both books relate to the Dark Tower series, and if you are familiar with them, the references to that particular story are countless in both novels.

They keep getting more intense. I cried during book 7, and I don't cry during books. But they are wonderful books.

message 3769: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Daisy, I haven't gotten too far into it yet, but I'll let you know once I do!

She's Stacked (Jo-Anne) (missstacked) | 4 comments I am finally reading Ready Player One by Ernest Cline and it is making my geeky nerdy heart very happy. I have given up (for now) on Teacher by Mark Edmundson. Soon, I will be starting the books for my Lit class in the fall.

message 3771: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) | 71 comments I finished reading Travis Holland's The Archivist's Story yesterday. I thought it was really interesting (not to mention I studied that period in history so is appealed to my academic interests, lol)

Meanwhile, I'm about 200 pages away from completing Alexandre Dumas' The Count of Monte Cristo (whoo-hoo!). I've also started reading Robin Harris' Not for Turning: The Life of Margaret Thatcher and Alison MacLeod's Unexploded (hoping to finish reading the latter before the Man Booker shortlist is announced!)

She's Stacked (Jo-Anne) (missstacked) | 4 comments I am reading Kicking the Sky by Antony De Sa. It is set in my city and features a pivotal moment in its history.

message 3773: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (fictionshewrote) I'm currently finishing up The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien and I've been going through Shakespeare's sonnets for the past week or so. I'm going to try and get going on another book but I haven't decided on one just yet.

message 3774: by Merc (new)

Merc (oswinssouffle) I am still reading Little Women. It is not that long of a book but it has taken me ages just to reach the half-way mark. When I started the book, the Kindle said it would take around 11 hours to finish. Eleven seemed like too much for a book in the 400 page range.

At my current position, it still says 7 hours. I sure part of the reason it is so long is because I am very stop and go since I read at work but this is journey through Jo, Beth, Meg, and Amy's world is taking a pretty minute to finish.

message 3775: by Laarni (new)

Laarni (laarnireads) | 17 comments The Ocean at the End of the Lane! Yay!

Nitzan Schwarz (nitzanafterwords) I just finished Ghost Town (The Morganville Vampires, #9) by Rachel Caine (which I think is my favorite so far in the series!)

Annie Hartman (anniebananie) | 242 comments Just finished The Weight of Water which was an accidental read that I desperately wanted to hate but secretly really liked. I'm now reading East of Eden and The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie.

message 3780: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) | 71 comments I am currently reading Jordi Punti's Lost Luggage: A Novel (quirky read, very intriguing), Peter Ackroyd's Tudors (just started the other day so I haven't read much so far) and Diana Wynne Jones' Howl's Moving Castle (loving this book so far! I can't believe I never read it growing up xD)

message 3781: by Samantha (new)

message 3782: by Joel (new)

Joel Feldhake (feldhake) Just got done reading The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon. It was supposed to be "the next Harry Potter." Instead, it was the worst book I've ever had the misfortune of reading.

message 3783: by Merc (new)

Merc (oswinssouffle) I am currently reading The Enterprise of Deathfor some reason. It isn't a bad book but I may start to read something else on the side so I can actually tolerate reading through it.

message 3785: by Amber (new)

message 3790: by Tricia (new)

Tricia | 16 comments Almost finished Epigenetics Revolution and then have to read The Aenid for school and going to read The Book Thief which came in from the library at the most inconvenient time possible, ah well my weekend is filled.

message 3791: by Merc (new)

Merc (oswinssouffle) Did you like moonwalking with Einstein?

message 3792: by Tricia (new)

Tricia | 16 comments It kind of fell to the common flaw of it's genre great first couple of chapters, fantastic last chapter, but feels far too fluff-filled in the middle.

message 3793: by Merc (new)

Merc (oswinssouffle) Yeah, when I read it seemed a bit... padded, too.

message 3795: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (seekingoriginality) I just finished Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy and I'm not start the second book in the Games of Thrones book and still readying The Eye of the World.

message 3796: by Swissysmile (new)

Swissysmile I just started the Percy Jackson series. I'm on the second book. Not sure how I feel about it...the idea is interesting, and the setting is fascinating, love the entire idea. But the characters seem a little slow to get things, and as a result they keep getting themselves in bad situations that could have easily been avoided.

Hey Rebecca, how do you like Game of Thrones? I've gone back and forth between whether or not I'd want to read it. Is it worth the read?
