I finished The Book Thief. Great book!

Now starting on The Ugglies.

message 302: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker You know...a lot of the people we credit as being brilliant and great writers educated themselves. I would like to drop out of college and educate myself by reading as many books as I can. Who's with me?

message 307: by Caiti Casey (new)

Caiti Casey Spiess (mrssteven) Ooo I'm SOOOOO in!

message 308: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Let's start a revolution!

message 309: by Allison (new)

Allison i just finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.
i enjoyed it very much.
i'm still working on The Bad Beginning, but it's such an easy read, i think i may start another one.

message 310: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Allison, I bought the first 4 in the Lemony Snicket series. I can't wait to read them. They'll be a great way to relax and not think so much.

message 311: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Williams (mrslaurenwilliams) | 425 comments I'm on The Heretic's Daughter right now and it is really good. It's just so interesting... I can't wait to get off work and READ!!!

message 312: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) I started reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time on the plane last night, and it's very good so far!

message 313: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Williams (mrslaurenwilliams) | 425 comments Kelsey... let me know what you think of that book. I've seen it on paperbackswap and have been wondering whether to get it or not.

message 314: by Janet (new)

Janet Kelsey- let me know too! I have to read it for one of my classes this next semester so let me know! I heard it's really good.

message 315: by Caiti Casey (new)

Caiti Casey Spiess (mrssteven) Kelsey The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time is one of my favs!!!!!!

message 316: by Janet (new)

Janet I am about to finish Annie Freeman's Fabulous Traveling Funeral by Kris Radish. It was ok. Just a stupid fun read that I didn't really get all that into. Now I am finally going to start The Book Thief!

message 317: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) I just finished reading it (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time), and it was excellent! I totally would recommend it. It's definitely told from an interesting perspective, and it reminded me a tiny bit of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

message 318: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I just finished reading "Just Listen" by Sara Dessen. I am now going to read "The Thirteenth Tale" by Diane Setterfield.

message 319: by Spencer (new)

Spencer (spencerafreeman) I'm also reading The 13th Tale, Ashley. I'm only a couple chapters in, but so far I like it. Let me know what you think as you get into it.

message 320: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I just finished Sex and the City. It was OK I guess. I think the reason I didn't like it so well is because I've never been to New York nor do I know people like the characters. It's a compilation of the author's articles, but it seemed really disjointed and like the scenes didn't always have an actual ending (but the ended).

message 321: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Williams (mrslaurenwilliams) | 425 comments Thanks for letting me know Kelsey. I'll def order it from paperbackswap!

message 322: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Williams (mrslaurenwilliams) | 425 comments I just finished The Heretic's Daughter & it was amazing. I cried like 3 times. It's about a girl during the salem witch trials and I honestly felt like I was there with her the entire time. I felt the same emotions she did. Honestly, it is one of the best books I've ever read. Ever.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
ooh i've been wanting to read that! i'll def have to now that you have said it is so good!

message 324: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
I am so glad you liked it Lauren. I really enjoyed it when I read it. I was amazed that an 11 year old was portrayed so wise and it bothered me what fear can do to people. I am also not a history buff; was expecting to like it but not love it! Great surprise.

message 325: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Oh man! It sounds like I need to get that one now too! What are you people trying to do to me? Haha.

message 326: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) I just finished The Boy in the Striped Pajamas too, which was really good. It's a quick read too. I finished it in like 2 hours.

message 327: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
Kelsey, did you see the show? It was at one of our local theaters a week or so ago, I was debating and probably missed it.

message 328: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I've decided that I am reading The History of Love or at least give it 50 pages and decide what to do. I'm tired of just reading a few pages of a book and then switching. I need to be persistent.

message 329: by Jessika (new)

Jessika Hoover (jessalittlebooknerd) I finished Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince this morning...so now I'm moving onto HP and the Deathly Hallows :)

The sixth book left so much up in the air, I'm dying to find out what's going to happen next!

message 330: by Janet (new)

Janet OOOO Jess I am so excited for you!! The 7th book is fantastic!

Lori Walker I am reading The History of Love: A Novel. I really like it. I hope I can finish this weekend and start something else on Sunday (school starts Monday). But I'm not sure yet what that something will be.

message 333: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) Tami: I haven't seen the movie yet. I wanted to read the book first, but I'll probably see the movie now too.
Jamie: I cried SO much when I finished it. But it was amazing, was it not?

kelsey..it was INCREDIBLE. I will forever recommend this book to everyone! it was just such a powerful story..with very real characters, real emotions, an unique narrator that was done really well, and i really really liked how he wrote.

message 335: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) I know! I absolutely loved it! You should try reading I Am the Messenger too. It's pretty awesome too, but kind of in a different way. I love Markus Zusak!

Caiti Casey Spiess (mrssteven) Lori, I'm still working on the History of Love but I love it. Ha the old guy cracks me up! I really like how the other writes too, because it kind of jumps all over the place kind of like when I try to write. HA

i LOVED the old man!

message 339: by Caiti Casey (new)

Caiti Casey Spiess (mrssteven) Jamie my favorite part was when he was talking about what he thought a good movie was determined by...a crink in your neck and a fading hard on. I laughed so hard!!!!! Old men are so funny!

message 340: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Caiti, I love the old man! I kept laughing out loud at the beginning because it was all so funny. And I love the part about the art class. But his parts also make me incredibly sad sometimes. Can't wait to discuss it with you when we finish!

Lori Walker Thanks Jamie. I have about 75 pages left. I don't think I'll finish tonight, but definitely tomorrow.

message 343: by Heather (new)

Heather (andshewontsleep) Right now I'm reading The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood and Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell. Jonathan Strange is a HUGE book, but it's been sitting on my shelf for over a year now so I want to get it DONE.

message 344: by Caiti Casey (new)

Caiti Casey Spiess (mrssteven) I'm kind of slow with it for some odd reason but I will definitely catch up with the discussions when I'm finally done.

message 345: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) I just started The Book Thief. I'm maybe 1/4 of the way through and I'm caught between thinking it's not super interesting and really wanting to read it because of all the wonderful things I've heard.

message 346: by Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner), The Founding Bookworm (new)

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
that's exactly how i was Justine.
The only thing that kept me going was how everyone said how amazing it was!

message 347: by Jessika (new)

Jessika Hoover (jessalittlebooknerd) Well, I finally did it--I finally finished the HP series. It's kinda sad in a way because I can no longer sit and wonder what's gonna happen next. :/ Oh well, I guess I can sit and wonder what JKR is going to write next--hehe :)

To ease myself down off the HP high, I'm gonna read The Tales of Beedle the Bard today. I'm looking forward to it--it looks like a nice quick read :

message 348: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) I totally know what you mean Jess! I had been reading Harry Potter since I was 10, so it was so sad when I finished the last book. I just hope that she comes out with some good stuff in the future!
