kate (katelucia) I'm on Cat's Eye. I like it so far. But I try to always reserve judgments until the end.

And I need to to read Kafka's Metamorphosis for class.

Lauren Williams (mrslaurenwilliams) | 425 comments Justine,
Did you like American Psycho? I'm a little scared to read it. =) I heard it was pretty messed up! And I have Neverwhere on my TBR list, but I don't have that one yet!

message 153: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) It's pretty messed up. I thought the "gorey" parts were more interesting than sickening - which might just say something about me. But I am afraid to watch the movie now...haha.

message 154: by Heather (new)

Heather (andshewontsleep) I haven't read American Psycho.. but I saw the movie and it freaked me out so much. christian bale plays the main character frighteningly well.

message 155: by kate (new)

kate (katelucia) I agree, I don't think I'll be reading that book anytime soon. Christian Bale pretty much terrified me.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
i don't think i've ever seen this movie..worth seeing?

message 157: by kate (new)

kate (katelucia) I didn't really find it that great. But lots of people do.

message 158: by Spencer (new)

Spencer (spencerafreeman) like me :) I loved it... Christian Bale is a talented actor

message 159: by kate (new)

kate (katelucia) No doubts about that! :) I love Christian Bale. I just didn't really enjoy the subject matter. But I'm not sorry I watched it.

message 160: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) I knew it was Christian Bale in the movie, so that's who I pictured while reading the book. That's easier for me than creating a whole new person and then seeing a movie and being disappointed that it doesn't match up to what's in my head.

message 161: by Caiti Casey (new)

Caiti Casey Spiess (mrssteven) And Christian Bale is so hot that it really wouldn't be that disappointing to think of him.

message 162: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) Haha, that he is. I think the whole accent thing does it for me. I don't know what it is about men with accents...

message 163: by April (new)

April | 39 comments Yippy!!! I totally just finished Twilight...i'm sooo happy hahahha. Everyone has been on me to hurry up and I finally tonight buckeled down and did it! Sorry had to share my excitement :o)

message 164: by Caiti Casey (new)

Caiti Casey Spiess (mrssteven) Hmmm yes men with accents.

Way to go April! Now your already for the premier...I just picked up my tickets from the theater cause just ordering them from Fandango wasn't enough.

message 165: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) My boyfriend bought US tickets! Haha. He gave in and he's going with me and I didn't have to beat him up a little to get him to do it!

message 166: by Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner), The Founding Bookworm (new)

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
yayyy April!! :)

ahh i need to get tickets!! i've been so busy i forgot!!

message 167: by April (new)

April | 39 comments Justine...your lucky! Wish my b/f would go :o( It's ok though it's supposed to be a bunch of girls and I think we are going to IHOP either before or after b/c it's beside the theater...My friend ordered my ticket..it was like 8.75 not too bad.

message 168: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Williams (mrslaurenwilliams) | 425 comments I just finished Peony in Love by Lisa See & it was great. Honestly, I didn't like it as much as Snow Flower & the Secret Fan, but it was still really good.

message 169: by Atishay (new)

Atishay | 18 comments I'm currently reading The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
Just finished Pride and Prejudice. I loved it. Best Austen book so far. I just started Mansfield Park.

message 171: by Ashley (last edited Nov 28, 2008 11:26AM) (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I finished reading Elsewhere and I am now reading "On Strike for Christmas" . Perfect book for Christmas time.

message 172: by Lauren (last edited Nov 24, 2008 09:11AM) (new)

Lauren Williams (mrslaurenwilliams) | 425 comments I just finished The Accident, by Elie Wiesel. It was pretty decent. Now I'm finishing up Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. It's good. I've already bought the next 2 books in the series.

message 173: by Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner), The Founding Bookworm (new)

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
Ashley..how was Elsewhere? I have that on my tbr list.

message 174: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) Elsewhere was great. It had a nice ending to it. It was a nice light and quick read after reading the intense Twilight series.

message 175: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Williams (mrslaurenwilliams) | 425 comments Has anyone else read Wicked? I like it.. I looked at the reviews.. and people either loved it or hated it. I'm in between. It's good, but I've read better.

message 176: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
It is one I plan to read. Sounds really interesting.

message 177: by Heather (new)

Heather (andshewontsleep) Lauren, I read Wicked back in the spring. I didn't love it or hate it. I thought it was okay, but I wasn't sucked in enough to really want to read the other books in the series. The Wizard of Oz is one of my favorite movies, and I thought the book was an interesting take on it.

message 178: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Williams (mrslaurenwilliams) | 425 comments Thats how I feel, Heather. But I already have other books in the series, so I'll have to read them now. They're brand new!!

message 179: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) Atishay, do you like The Thirteenth Tale? I've been wanting to read that forever!

message 180: by Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner), The Founding Bookworm (new)

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
lauren..its def something i want to read..i saw the musical..however i hear its totally different than the book.

message 181: by Caiti Casey (new)

Caiti Casey Spiess (mrssteven) Lauren, I'm a big musical geek and plan on reading it. I actually own Wicked and Son of a Witch.

Jamie, I'm jealous of you, I wish I could have seen the musical. Maybe someday, or maybe they'll make it into a movie like Rent and keep most of the original characters.

Ashley, I didn't realize there were sexual references, my boyfriend's mom read it and said I would love it.

message 182: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Williams (mrslaurenwilliams) | 425 comments Okay girls... I just finished Wicked and I liked it. Caiti, there was some sexual references, but nothing serious. It didn't bother me a bit. I'm going to start the next one asap.

message 183: by Atishay (new)

Atishay | 18 comments Kels, I'm currently reading it and if you're anything like a booklover, there is no way you wouldn't like The Thirteenth Tale. Go for it!

message 184: by kate (new)

kate (katelucia) Finished Cat's Eye

Can't decide whether to start Breakfast at Tiffany's or Peter Pan.

But I'm also down for a re-read of Harry Potter.

message 185: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) I just finished the Gemma Doyle Trilogy today. SO GOOD. I'm still trudging through East of Eden - I'm enjoying it, it's just taking soooo long. I'm reading Pride and Prejudice online while at work to help pass the time.

I read The Thirteenth Tale last month and didn't like it. I thought it was very predictable and saw the ending coming from about eight miles away. That kind of ruins things for me.

message 186: by Heather (new)

Heather (andshewontsleep) I finally finished Jane Eyre last night. I liked it, but I think maybe my expectations were too high. It didn't knock me off my feet or anything, but still one of the better classics that I've read.

A friend of mine just let me borrow Twilight & New Moon for the holiday weekend, so I'll be diving into that maybe later tonight.

message 187: by Atishay (new)

Atishay | 18 comments I just finished The 13th Tale. It was awesome.
Now, I'm reading 'Measuring the world' by Daniel Kehlmann.

message 188: by Katerina (new)

Katerina | 252 comments just finished good in bed..going to start History of Love.

message 189: by Janet (new)

Janet Oh I loved Good in Bed! She is a great author!!

message 190: by Lauren (last edited Nov 30, 2008 09:16PM) (new)

Lauren Williams (mrslaurenwilliams) | 425 comments I put aside History of Love because I kinda got that book and EL&IC mixed up a little. But I'll go back to it in the near future. Right now I'm trying to finish The Tattooed Girl by Joyce Carol Oates and I'm kinda having a hard time getting through it! I have been so excited to start this book, and it's really been a let down. I don't care much for the main characters and don't identify with them at all. I read one review from someone on goodreads that said the whole book was pretty much about a couple of people bad-mouthing Jews... and it really is. It's really getting on my nerves and is taking away from the book. Of course these bad-mouthers are the bad guys you're not supposed to like, but geez.... I'm going to finish it, even if I don't like it.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
i've heard that you shouldn't read History of Love and EL&IC one after another. i heard they are pretty similar in some ways..weird..since they are husband and wife.

i'm the same way..sometimes i have to finish a book even if i don't particularly care for it.

message 192: by Janet (new)

Janet I am the same way Jaime and Lauren. I am getting the two a little mixed up, like you Lauren. And I am not really liking History of Love too much but I still feel I have to finish it. We'll see how it turns out!

message 193: by Mykee (new)

Mykee Tan (chineseveganboy) | 28 comments I finished reading "Star of the Sea" by Joseph O'Connor last night. It was so beautiful (and I don't say that to just any book). Right now I'm reading "Hocus Pocus" by Kurt Vonnegut.

message 194: by Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner), The Founding Bookworm (new)

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
I'll have to check out Star of the Sea..thanks Mykee! :)

message 195: by Caiti Casey (new)

Caiti Casey Spiess (mrssteven) I think my sister just finished reading Star of the Sea and she said she really enjoyed it.

message 196: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Williams (mrslaurenwilliams) | 425 comments Well I just finished The Tattooed Girl and honestly, it sucked. The ending got on my nerves as much as the rest of the book. But I won't let this one book deter me from Oates' others. I still have high hopes!

message 197: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) Still working on Pride and Prejudice. I'm just not feeling it.
Started Cat's Eye. I'm really enjoying it - the story and the writing.
But I finally finished East of Eden and then went into town to look at where everything used to be. It kind of freaked me out.
I got Bookends: A Novel from PBS on Friday and read it quick to end the torture.
Cannery Row and History of Love are coming up next.
