Julianne | 314 comments Anyone know how this works? It's showing on one of my "currently reading" books, but I don't know how it got there or how to fix it? Ideas anyone?

BTW, I think it's an awesome idea!

Abigail (42stitches) | 360 comments Now I'm curious. I don't see what you mean. It's not the cloud thing, is it?

message 3: by Julianne (last edited Oct 01, 2008 08:01PM) (new)

Julianne | 314 comments I swear, it keeps coming and going. Maybe they're working on it right now? It's not on all my currently reading, and there's no prompt to write in it. Check this person's site, it doesn't seem to change

UPDATED LINK 10/1, ~2300 Eastern time

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments Where do you see the Progress Bar, Julianne? I checked my profile and my currently reading pages, but it sounds interesting.

EDIT: Whoa, thanks for the link. I wonder if they're just testing it now, which is why we haven't seen any bulletins about it?

message 5: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 314 comments Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. I saw a thing on one of my books saying I was on "pg 1 of 336". I clicked on it, but all it let me do was add a comment to my updates field, not actually change it.

Que sara sara. I'll check again soon and see if I can make changes.

message 6: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments I wrote the Goodreads feedback group to find out how to use this, so hopefully we find out soon, cuz I think this is too cool!

message 7: by Tisha (new)

Tisha I don't see anything, but I'm intrigued. Is it a progress bar of our TBR or what??

message 8: by Shannon (new)

Shannon | 79 comments I haven't seen it either, but it sounds interesting. I like the idea of it, hopefully they are able to get it going.

message 9: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments yep, looks like they've hidden it again. I guess it wasn't ready for us to see.

message 10: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
Me so confused.
I have no clue what you are talking about. What is that cloud thing in that persons link? What is its purpose?

message 11: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments I saw it this morning but didn't bring it up. I can't wait to use it.

message 12: by Liz (new)

Liz (busy91) I saw this on someones profile, but didn't know where it came from. I do want one, hopefully it will be up for use soon.

message 13: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 314 comments Ya know, it's funny. I told myself to stop spending so much time online and start catching up on my reading--ya know, it being a new month and all...I stop by GR for 2 minutes and catch something that's been on and off for a little while. (and now I'm obsessed!)

Yep, they hid it again. I'm really excited for it to be here, though. I think they've made some good additions lately to the site, and this is a cool one, too!

I'm not sure what "cloud thing" people are talking about, either

message 14: by Connie (new)

Connie | 188 comments I clicked on the link and didn't see a progress bar or a cloud link, but I am intrigued. Please post a follow up when you know what the deal is. Thanks!

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

I can't find it either. But I would like to know!

message 16: by Ari (last edited Oct 01, 2008 06:56PM) (new)

Ari (aricl) It seems to be back on. I just added what page of Norwegian Wood I'm in.

I see no bar, though; just a simple "I'm in page XX of "

message 17: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
yup. i just updated my book as well...
looks interesting...

message 18: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments Cool idea!!! I just did mine. I am reading 3 right now, one with my son. This should be interesting to see how long it actually takes me to read a book...hmmmm??????

message 19: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 314 comments At first it was a cool blue bar graph looking thing. If you look on a profile you'll see the progress bar, but it's tiny and khaki colored.

Blue's my favorite color so I'm bummed they changed it. Ah, well! Still a cool feature. It's a shame I just finished 2 books, though, so can't put my #s in. But, I did finish 2 books!!!!!!!!!

message 20: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 314 comments Also, I updated the link at the top of the thread to show what's currently available.

(it's also here) http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/56...

message 21: by Connie (new)

Connie | 188 comments How cool. I just went and updated all 5 of the books I am reading. It's like they are in a race now. lol.

Weird thing though...when I went to update one of my books, there was already a progress bar showing for that title with someone else's comments attached. Looks GR still needs to work out a few of the kinks.

message 22: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) Do you think you could provide a public link - I'd like to see this progress bar?

message 23: by Tien (last edited Oct 01, 2008 10:11PM) (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) I love it! It's soo cool. I do wish it's in a colour that stands out a bit though.
and Petra, try mine:

message 24: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (notestothemoon) I've seen this progress bar on other people's pages and think it's really cool. But I can't find it on mine! Where do I go to change it?

message 25: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
Its strange. On my home page (where I can change it) it tells me what I put in (page 3, 9 hours ago) but when you go to my profile, it says page 21 7 hours ago... what the ????

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

Very neat. Something else to hurry up & add when reading!

message 27: by Liz (last edited Oct 02, 2008 07:42AM) (new)

Liz (busy91) Now I just have to remember to put the right edition of the book I'm reading in. Usually I just put whichever edition pops up, but some editions have more pages. For instance, I'm reading Frankenstein and the edition I have is from 1965 (before they cared about our vision) and the type is small and it is 224 pages. The newer version has like 352 pages, that is a big difference. Luckily you can change the edition to match your page count.

message 28: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) Thanks Karen. I want one too!

message 29: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments OK I had it yesterday and now it is gone. How do I get it back?? AND when I do get it back how the heck do I use it??

message 30: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) I did it, I got bars for all my currently-reading books. It makes me feel a bit guilty about those I have half-abandoned in favour of the newest, more interesting book.

message 31: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments So I put that I'm on pg. 268 of Tree of Smoke and it updated well on both my home page and on the book's page. Yet for some reason, on my profile it says I'm on page 458. I am definitely not that close to the end. It's definitely still buggy but I'm sure GR will get the kinks worked out soon enough.

message 32: by Connie (new)

Connie | 188 comments Jenny: Just go like you're going to EDIT your review and you will see a place to enter the page number. To update your actual progress, you just go back and click on the current page number as displayed next to the progress bar and it links you to where you can change the pg number. Hope that made sense. Little sleepy today.

message 33: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments OK my progress bar in MIA. How can I retrieve it???

message 34: by Cheri Howard (new)

Cheri Howard I don't have this option either...

message 35: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments I have it Ihave it...:-) It is on the home page at the right with the box of currently reading and it asks on which page you are....
okay, gotta go and check it out!!!!!!

message 36: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments I used it. Oh this is so not gonna help our addiction to this site....

When you are reading more than one book, just click on the title of the other book and it goes to a seperate page where you can add your progress for that book too.

Oh this is great..... i feel like singing......

message 37: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (notestothemoon) Thanks Connie I did manage to work it out in the end. I'm loving it, just something else for me to get addicted to. Though it does say I have a lot more pages left to read than I actually have. Checked it was the right addition and everything. When they put a page total in do they include all the introduction, contents etc? That may be a stupid question sorry :S

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

Donna: click on the book in your currently reading and it will take you to a section to put in the page your on. Really neat!

message 39: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Haha, Fiona... I was having that image in my head to when I noticed that I had the bar to update.....

message 40: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments You guys are making me crazy!
It's like when you overhear someone talking to someone else and you want to find out what they are referring to ...
So I went to my "currently reading" and at first I could not find it.
Then Walah! There it is...Bad thing is, the book I am reading is the new Dennis LEhane and the # of pages says 352. Nope this is a 700+ pager.
Sent the librarian a note...hope they fix it soon.
couldn't wait to get back from the Y so I could log my progress....

message 41: by Liz (new)

Liz (busy91) ^ oh yes "The Given Day" is wrong. I did notice that last week. Glad you told someone, I would have but didn't know how.

message 42: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments It took awhile but I got it YAY!!!!

message 43: by Shannon (new)

Shannon | 79 comments I got it too!! This is really neat.

message 44: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments Just like Jeane said, it only adds to our addiction.

message 45: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 1000 comments Oh man, just what my OCD personality needs, a progress bar. Oh who am I kidding? I love it!

Abigail (42stitches) | 360 comments This is kinda cool. I finally found it, but it doesn't load. I probably shouldn't bother with it. I had to fight myself all morning just to finish a book before I turned on my computer.

message 47: by Emma (last edited Oct 02, 2008 02:40PM) (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Oh god....must ignore or I'll never read....must ignore must ignore.......not working! Ack, how does this work? I am giving into my addiction.

message 48: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments True....I was actually reading with the computer on when I was sick! Ooooo, perhaps I might need to get sick more often. :P

message 49: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Ahh, I like the way you think!

message 50: by Connie (new)

Connie | 188 comments Jenny: Haven't really checked it to be sure, but I assume they match it exactly to the book. So if your contents page, intro, etc. is not included in the page count, then the answer would be no. If they are included, then yes.

I'm glad you got it working. It's certainly a fun new thing!
