Show of Hands: Anyone Else Getting Sick of Zoe Saldana?

I'm not a fan of Zoe, but who do you wished they have picked for this new movie? I have seen the preview last night.
A lot of actresses and actors have to try out for roles and some get roles sent to them. Maybe Zoe wasn't their first choice. Maybe the first black woman turned down the role.
There's not that many veteran black actors and actresses in Hollywood, the same goes for white actors/ and actresses. They tend to use the same people over and over in movie roles, no matter what the race is.
Hollywoood needs to give new faces from all races a chance.
If you notice a lot of the older actors/actresses aren't in movies alot, it's the younger generation. Jennifer Ainston be in a lot of comedy movies. Can they use other white actresses? Yes, but it seems as if Jennifer is the comedy ticket.

Hollywood is very uncreative in their casting choices. Zoe seems to be the new "Black It Girl." I think she's taking advantage of it while she can, but I have a feeling that she'll be replaced. I wish there could be more diversity in casting. No question about that.

Once in awhile I'll do a look-see on IMDB of my favorite actresses of color to see if they have any upcoming projects and it is incredibly depressing.
So many talented black actresses have been out there for years subsisting on guest roles and the occasional sassy best friend. So when one gets a chance to break out and get a higher profile and work, I am just as pleased as punch.
Right now it seems to be Zoe and Taraji's time to shine. But do a comparison between their upcoming projects and actors like Jennifer Lawrence or Emma Stone and you will see a real difference in the numbers. Those two actresses have been in the business less than half the time of Z&T and yet they more than twice the upcoming work.

I'll have to Google. I don't know Jennifer or Emma. I might know their faces. I'd have to check. Never heard of them.

Jennifer Lawrence's casting of Katniss raised a few eyebrows and caused a mild controversy. In the books Katniss is described as being darker, olive skinned with dark hair and eyes. A big contrast is made between her and her sister Primrose who is pale with pale hair and light eyes. So when the casting sides went out to cast for the role, it specifically asked for 'caucasian' actresses only. Actresses of almost any ethnicity could have fit her 'look', but they wanted only white. So when they cast the very blonde, pale Jennifer Lawrence eyebrows got raised. And then later pictures of her came out made up as Katniss where she looks, well, Zoe Kravitz.
On the one hand, I think she's a really good actress and would do well in the role. On the other, here is a role where literally any ethnicity could have fit the look of the character and yet women of color weren't even given the opportunity to even try for it.
Emma Stone made a splash in Easy A (good movie, btw). She's in a rom-com right now and she is playing the main role of Skeeter in the movie version of The Help.

See those movies like X-Men and stuff, I don't watch those types of movies. Just not my thing. I like thrillers, comedies and mysteries. I never watched the X-Men movies with Halle Berry. I didn't ever wanna see those. I'm not a big superhero person. Batman and Superman are the only supperheros I care to watch. I saw Watchmen. I liked that but I don't watch those types of movies normally.
Now my dad watches almost anything that comes out. LOL! I don't watch a lot of these new movies. I have been turned off to the kind of films Hollywood's been making for a while. I watch mostly the new comedies because I love comedies. But I don't watch teen flicks, SCI-Fi, Superhero, no. I might make an exception with Sci-Fi and Superhero films if there's one I feel I might like or someone in it I wanna see but they are not my number one choices.
Now this New Planet of the Apes looks good and I'll probably check it out when it gets to DVD. Mainly because James Franco is in it and I love him. LOL!
Best Wishes!

On the other hand, it's a consumer-driven market and unfortunately, few people are willing to put their wallets on the line, which is why I was thrilled with the boycott over The Last Airbender. You want more diversity, your only real choice will be to watch movies/series from Canada or Europe.
Now don't get me wrong. I am not hating. I like Zoe. I think she's very attractive, seems to be very sweet and a good actress. I am just tired of her being on everything when they need a minority woman. She has a new one coming out soon, Columbiana. She plays some kind of assassin or something. I don't know the plot but it looks like one of those where someone probably killed her parents and she gets revenge. Not sure, just what it looks like. I saw the trailer on television.
Anyway, is this the ONLY minority chick out there who can get a feature film? Looks like it. Whether it's a Hispanic role or a black role, they call Zoe. LOL!
I might be wrong but I think she's a little overexposed now. Anyone else feel the same? I'm getting tired of her on EVERYTHING! It's getting to where now you don't even have to guess who they are gonna pick when they need a black female on anything. They act like Zoe is the only minority actress. I'm waiting for her to start playing Asian female roles next. LOL!
Just every time you turn around...Zoe.
Best Wishes!
