Sandra (sleo) | 1059 comments Massive OOOOPS here, from your esteemed moderator. I jumped the gun a little and posted this, completely forgetting that we had discussed reading two more books after the end of Empire. To top it all off, I just mistakenly sent out an empty message to everyone and won't be able to send another one until tomorrow. Please forgive my doofusness, and while you can place nominations here, we are going to have a quick vote on whether to end the Riftwar series after Mistress of the Empire or continue with the two Krondor books, Prince of the Blood and The King's Buccaneer. Click on the tiny word 'poll' to the immediaate right of this discussion column to find the poll and vote.--------------->

I will send out another group message tomorrow, as they will only send out one a day, inviting everyone to vote in a brief poll which I will set up now.

The Malazan discussion will continue until all those books are read, or until our discussion leaders collapse, one, LOL. It was a secondary series as it was a close runner up for the group choice.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) How about the Recluse series by Recluse books by L.E. Modesitt Jr.

It's up to 16 books, though. I'm not sure anyone wants to do such a long series. Thoughts?

The Codex Alera (aka the Furies) by Jim Butcher is only 6 books long & is fairly new. It's an actual fantasy, not paranormal like his Dresden series, but all the books are available in paperback & it has a definite ending, which is kind of nice.

I thought we still had four more books in the Riftwar Saga? At least there's some more listed on the to-read bookshelf.

Oh. I was thinking we'd decided to stop after the Empire trilogy.

Maybe we should vote on it? What do you think, Jim?

Amelia (narknon) | 523 comments I actually have the next two in the series. (I bought them before we ever decided to read them as a group.)

Maybe we need input from someone who's actually read the whole series. I've heard that the later books in the series aren't on the same level as the first ones.

I'm not opposed to reading the next few, but I don't think we need to read all of the books in the series.

I think the Riftwar is at a good stopping point. Fantastic Fiction lists Prince of the Blood & The King's Buccaneer as part of this series, but I think that's a mistake. Here on GR, they're listed as part of Krondor's Sons, a duology (sp?). They really are separate & follow the kids, but are good. Then you get into the 'Serpent War' series.

I have & have read all of them once or twice, although it's been ages. I liked them, but don't feel like reading them now. I don't see why others couldn't continue while we started up another series, though.

In short, while I might join in a bit on discussions of more of Feist's books, I'm for starting a new series without a vote & letting those who want to continue do so.

Well now, there's a thought. Hmm.

Sandra (sleo) | 1059 comments I've reopened the poll. Set the close date for the 8th. Original date was set when this all started, then GR wouldn't let me send out a message until last night and I didn't think to change the end date. All is well now. Vote!

Sandra (sleo) | 1059 comments Well, it looks like starting a new series has won the day. But I think Jim had a good idea, so those who want to continue in Riftwar can continue.

Of course, old discussions remain open so anyone can join in at any time.
