Urban Fantasy discussion
What are you reading?
I just thought I’d mention this book I finished The Grass Dancer by Susan Power for people who want to read something different that is not UF but still has supernatural elements. This book is part historical, part magical realism, following the lives a various members of the Sioux Nation starting in the 80s and going back into the 18 hundreds. One of the leading characters is a very evil Sioux witch!
It's ridiculous but I cannot stop reading Harlequins this week. I'm going through a phase. Also reading the Hollows short stories by Kim Harrison, Night Shift by Stephen King, and Fear and Trembling (an anthology by Robert Bloch). I read anthologies slowly but am enjoying them.

Yes it was a great one and very subtly eerie.

I read some spoilers and decided not to continue with the series.
I am about to finish
and ready to start
but I am sort of in the mood for something different. Hmmm. Don't get me wrong, I love Kate Daniels, but my attention wanders no matter how good the series.

I have the same problem. I can read one or two books in a series in a row, but then I need to move on to something else. The downside is that it can get confusing. When I was reading Bone Crossed, I was lost through a lot of the book because I couldn't remember enough details.

Finished
. I ended up liking this more than I thought I would at first. I almost put it down after the first eight chapters, but I'm so glad I didn't! I need to write my review today. Now I am starting
. After that I will read
and
.
I just downloaded
. I was going to wait and ask for it for Christmas, but I just couldn't wait, lol. I'm using it for one of my reads in the Oct. - Dec. challenge.

I am reading
by James Hetley. What I like about the story is it combines Celtic mythology, the Merlin story, with modern technology like genetic mutations.
It is hard to read as the leading protagonist is a rape victim. Up to now the rape has not been described in detail, rather only mentioned that it happened to her as a child. However as a result she is an alcoholic and has a dysfunctional relationship with men so it is still unpleasant.
However I am a big sucker for any type of hidden secret race of beings living in our world kind of thing, so in spite of all that, I am still liking the book.

Currently still read The Hollows: Into the woods and another anthology. I read anthologies SO slow. This month I have to read a Charles Dickens, the chronicles of narnia series, a zombie book my friend loaned me, some Lynne Graham harlequin romances.

For some reason, I just couldn't get into it. I read 15% and gave up. Hopefully, you'll have better luck with it!

I read it but it gave me a headache and I bought like 3 in the series at the same time sooo now Im stuck I have to read them lol. I really couldnt stand the best friend espcially when she got with that dude they were just puke worthy to me and it just seemed so fake. A similar plot line but much better story and alot funnier is
and that whole series plus the characters are alot more likable in my Opinion.

Exactly!! Although, it's weird because in
Daughter of Smoke & Bone, Karou and Zuz have that same kind of girly banter thing going on, but DoSaB, I thought it was cute and not annoying.
I'll have to give Jane Jameson a try!

I couldn't get into Daughter of the Sword. Will have to try later. I read
, which is more PNR. I liked it. It was a good way to end the series.I'm on a steampunk kick right now. Read some steampunk romance, and also have
on the reading shelf.

I *love* steampunk! It's a nice change from regular UF.

I only discovered steampunk this year too, but actually, really enjoy this genre. It's still great urban fantasy, just a slightly different urban than we're used to!

Yuck - glad I have only this book of the series in case I can't get into it either.
more than half way thur and not very pleased. THere are too many various authors and very short stories that I'm have not been impressed to read other books by authors that I'm not familiar with.

Short stories can be hit or miss. It's nice when they introduce you to new authors, but short fiction can also be a little frustrating.

I've read some by authors I already love and know I never would have tried their full-length books if I had read the short stories first. There just isn't enough time to be properly introduced to the characters and the author's world in a short or novella. I've started reading some that are tied into series I already love, but I have to really like the series and be desperate for a fix to dive into them.
Just finished
, which I loved !! and now onto
