Ooohh, something to look forward to.! I started the Dark Days series last night(Jocelynn Drake), based on it being listed on our "Completed" thread! I did read the Sweep series too but didn't much care for it. It's hard to compete with the other books I was reading at the time - A Discovery of Witches and Succubus Revealed. LOL

Mlpmom (Book Reviewer) (mlpmombookreviewer) | 839 comments I read the first one and it was really good! I have been waiting to read the second one until the third one was closer to being released.

Rebecca | 225 comments The Vampire Diaries is a VERY good TV show too!! Even better than the books!

message 114: by PM (new)

PM (personalmiracle) | 242 comments I have to get caught up on that TV series sometime. I think the last I saw was Year 2, Episode 20. Damon is cute enough, but Stefan should be softer looking, IMO. He is really nice though. LOL

message 115: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (aurorapixi) | 187 comments Honestly I like the show way better than the books. I think it was the third book, the return series, that really made me think less of the series. It was terribly written imo. Like a very rushed 5th grader wrote it, so different from the first ones. I know that may sound terrible, but I haven't picked up L.J. Smith since.

ஐAndreaஐ (rosesrrblue) | 707 comments Vanessa I agree, that book was horrible and I haven't read any of them since. I actually did like the first few books tho.

Doesn't sound bad at all! There are waaay too many books out there to read to waste time on something you don't love. I didn't realize just how many fabulous authors/books until I found Goodreads!

PM (personalmiracle) | 242 comments So! I stayed up LATE reading the 3rd and what I thought was the final book in Richelle Mead's 3-book Dark Swan series. I had 20 or so pages left and I was not going to bed without finding out how it ended. I was really wondering how she was going to tie it up so quickly! LOL WELL, it is VERY fortunate the real last book is coming out soon, Dec 27 to be exact, cause when I turned the last page of that book and nothing was resolved, well, it wasn't pretty. Can't wait to read it but that was very disappointing at 2 am! Good series, btw, not as engaging as Succubus,IMO, but by the end of the 3rd book, the character grow on you. Love Mead's writing style.

PM. What did you think of the cliffhanger at the end of Iron Crowned? I loved it makes for an interesting resolution in the final book. I agree not as good as the Succubus series, though.

PM (personalmiracle) | 242 comments **Dark Swan SPOILERS AHEAD**
I have liked Dorian all along so I was very happy with where it went. She had a dream of she and he holding a child and overlooking a battle or something and I think that is where this will go in the end.
i wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be his child, conceived before the antibiotics. After reading the last few chapters, I actually like the book more that I was thinking I did and I think it deserves a deeper examination than I have given it so far. Not Seth Mortenson, but hey...

OH my goodness Lisa! I just had a thought and had to add this! Eug says to Dorian, top of pg 373, "I think sometimes Kiyo does too," referring to Dor saying people will think he, Dorian, is the father. Kiyo was, shall we say "shooting blanks"!! Kiyo knows he can't be the father because he got fixed after he impregnated the Willow Queen! That is why he doesn't care about killing the kids, something that Eug is so shocked about. Maiween wanted to stop Eug from getting preggers so sent Kiyo to be her lover, knowing he would not get her pregnant and if if she was in a relationship with him no one else would either. What do you think of that theory?? LOL

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 407 comments SPOILERS; DARK SWAN. Whoah, Whoah, PM, I have lent my copy to a friend so can't refer back at the moment. Where did you get that bit about Kiyo shooting blanks? I didn't pick that up at all. Mmmm, not a bad theory and does explain some stuff. I actually think that the twins will have different fathers, even though Dorian and Eug didn't actually do the deed so to speak if you read that scene where they were together there is a chance he got her pregnant by alternate means...

As to Dark Swan. Lisa - Have you read the Merry Gentry series? I don't want to say much if you haven't but your comment about twins with different fathers is very interesting. There are several times in Dark Swan when it reminded me of Merry and her harem of men.

My son is 4months today!!!thanks for asking Lisa, he started sleeping through the night this week, and of course, i chose this week to get my kindle stolen.
So I have been trying to decide whether I should get my same Kindle (the one with the Keyboard) or get the Kindle touch or get the Kindle Fire.
Hubby wants to get me the Kindle Fire for Christmas, but I can't wait until Christmas.
Plus, I heard the regular non-tablet Kindle was much better for those of us who read a lot. So I can't make up my mind. But at least I got some paperbacks handy.

I really really love the Darkyn series. they are up there with BDB, Night huntress etc for me. I actually read it for one of these goodreads challenge and I read the next five immediately. I like the author's writing style.

The writing is gripping and I can't put them down.
The Darkyn series is dark like many said because the heroes have a past of abuse like the BDB hellrens. Nothing like Vishous, and Zsadist the headcase (LOL).
But you know, we love our tortured men and the ladies that bring light into their lives.
What I like about the Darkyn women is that they have their own powers (like the Midnight Breedmates). Each had and still have their own stuff going unlike the shellans.

The Heroine Alexander Keller is one of my favorite heroine of all the books I have read. She is what my mother would call a "saucy" girl. Very sarcastic and witty. She makes me LOL at her comments. the hero michael Cyprien seems like a mild mannered guy, and I guess he would have to be, right?

I am reading Dead Dead Witch Walking, finally getting to the Hollows Series, but this series isn't over.

But my #2 favorite series.

Thanks, E, that series sounds great. I'll definitely get to it soon, nothing I like better than some angsty, emotionally tortured men (only in books, of course)

PM, haven't read Merry. Is that Laurel K Hamilton?

message 135: by Duchess Nicole (new)

Duchess Nicole | 138 comments I liked the Merry Gentry series a lot, (despite the creepy ick factor.) but her books seem to take so much time to come out, I lose interest. I would love to read another one, as the last one left sooo many unanswered questions. Hopefully it doesn't drag out like her Anita Blake series.

message 136: by PM (last edited Dec 28, 2011 08:37PM) (new)

PM (personalmiracle) | 242 comments Possible Anita BLake and Sookie Stackhouse SPOILERS!!!
Agree, Nichole. I love Jean Claude and Anita, but that series has gone down hill and is dragging on, as in fact has the Sookie Stackhouse series. If you started reading the first book, it was in 1993! The storyline is suffering too. I like Merry even though there are multiple men, which I do not like so much for Anita. For Merry there is a reason that pertains to the actual plot. For Anita it is just, well, more men to write about. There are to be 15 Merry Gentry books.

It's weird - I can remember reading an interview years ago (just after Stroke of Midnight came out) and I swear she said Merry would be 6 books total. That said it's not the first time a series has been extended.

message 138: by PM (last edited Dec 28, 2011 08:38PM) (new)

PM (personalmiracle) | 242 comments Merry Gentry SPOILER!!!

That is what I read too, that it was originally going to be 6 books. It now will go beyond just having the babies and saving the world or whatever, and I fear will get into the same nothing much happening doldrums as Anita.

message 139: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (aurorapixi) | 187 comments So this series has a long way to go then if she is just on book 8. I remember when I worked at B&N in 2000 I got the first book for free and I didn't even know what it was. It didn't sound interesting to me but the store manager thought I would really like it. I still haven't read it, but it sounds like he had my number, because I thought paranormal sounded dumb until I read Twilight and got addicted about 3 years ago =) It just took me awhile to catch up to what he already knew about me =)

message 140: by PM (new)

PM (personalmiracle) | 242 comments That is about when this all started for me...same book, too! LOL Which series do you have book 1 for - Anita Blake or Merry Gentry?

message 141: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (aurorapixi) | 187 comments I think Merry Gentry, which from the descriptions of both I think I would prefer that one because it has the fae. Though it seems people don't really rave about LKH anymore, they are just annoyed with her. And I think the slutty heroines would really bother me. So I haven't decided to read it yet, though it's still on my bookshelf 12 years later =)

message 142: by PM (last edited Dec 28, 2011 08:39PM) (new)

PM (personalmiracle) | 242 comments ANITA BLAKE, MERRY GENTRY, SPOILERS!
The first several Anita Blake books are VERY good and the heroine had a moral center at that point. I loved them, then they went astray. I would still read them though, Jean Claude is not to be missed and Hamilton's writing is so good. The Merry Gentry books are really good too and as I said previously, the multiple men are relevant to the story. It IS a harem thought and you may not like that, relevant or not. The many and multiple men with Anita Blake are very not relevant and by now, just annoying. The books that center on Edward are still fine.

message 143: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (aurorapixi) | 187 comments Well I think I am kind of prudish when I read, because I even thought Sookie Stackhouse was getting too whorish, and I never saw anyone else who thought that. Everyone seems to think that about LKH's books so I'm not sure I can handle it. If I do decide to read them it will probably be a long time from now because I prefer to read finished series first, and I have a lot of those on my TBR list =)

message 144: by Duchess Nicole (new)

Duchess Nicole | 138 comments Yeah, I'd stay away from LKH, then. I would consider quite a few of her books more on the erotica side. It's weird, because she eases you into it. The first few books are sex free, and it gets steadily more racy, then downright "whoa!" as it goes on.

PM (personalmiracle) | 242 comments 3 finished series by Lilith Saintcrow that everyone should read.

A Strange Angel Novel Collection Strange Angels, Jealousy, Betrayals, Defiance by Lili St. Crow Night Shift (Jill Kismet, #1) by Lilith Saintcrow Working for the Devil (Dante Valentine, #1) by Lilith Saintcrow
The Jill Kismet series was very good but I am especially loving the Dante Valentine series. Romance in the Kismet series is somewhat slight and hence while I like "him," he is not memorable. Lilith even says that relationship was an not originally intended to be something that lasted for the whole series. In the Dante Valentine series the romance is much more central, but since I am not finished, who knows where it will go! LOL

FYI, look at what she says about ending a series. Wish some other authors had this pov:

Pamela: There are certainly many authors who would try to continue a best-selling series as long as they possibly could. How do you know for yourself when a series is finished?

Lilith: When it's stopped moving but hasn't started to stink yet? (Laughs) As soon as I start a series I know where the arc ends. Sometimes it isn't possible to write the entire arc from soup to nuts, for a variety of reasons, so I have to bring the series to a place of balance, at least. That's very rare, though; it's only happened once to me. I'm very lucky to have editors who listen when I tell them, "This many books is as long as this series can be; these are the reasons why.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 49 comments @PM, I'm just a casual reader but it is true that sometimes series are extended beyond their utility life as it were. I admire authors that know just when to quit a series.

If I could just make a side note. Another example is the tv show Iron Chef, they made an American version but the Japanese one finished before anyone could get bored. even some manga series only do 2-3 seasons and leave you wanting more but satisfied with the resolution.
