I had trouble warming up to Olivia but her character development is wonderful and in the meantime I had Captain Haviland.

Liora (chinquapin) | 67 comments I just finished Mind Your Own Beeswax (Queen Bee, #2) by Hannah Reed by Hannah Reed. I like the main character and the rural Wisconsin setting in this series. There wasn't as much beekeeping info and lore in this one.

Barb, I just started on book #2. I have them all and was surprised that they just stopped too. I tried to find some info on the author, but didn't find much.

Barb | 1192 comments I hate when a series just stops like that, without any explanation or reason given. It leaves the reader wondering what happened to the author more than what happens to the characters!

message 4805: by Cinette (new)

Cinette Santangelo | 6 comments I just finished Unholy Dying by Robert Barnard. Interesting twists, but multiple points of view that doesn't let you get too close to any of the characters.

message 4806: by Denise (new)

Denise | 618 comments I just finished The Devil's Cradle by Sylvia Nobel. I found the book for 50 cents at the library's book store and picked it up (it was a signed copy believe it or not!). This was a new author for me and I would consider this a cozy. There are 4 books so far in the series and I am now on the hunt to read the rest of them. The author is from Phoenix AZ and the series is set in Arizona. The book was really very good.

message 4807: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Michael | 92 comments Just finished The Gauguin Connection (Genevieve Lenard, #1) by Estelle Ryan and loved it. I'm not sure it's really a 'cozy' ... but it definitely isn't hard-edged mystery either. Hard to define but reminded me a little of some of the older 'investigative' mysteries updated to include computer hacking along with the international art thefts (which I love anyway). Really interesting main character as well ... different.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Just finished Murder Unmentionable. Lots to like about this first, but sadly, the mystery itself wasn't one of them. Killer was obvious to me from the first. Still - I'll check out the next one...

message 4809: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 2 comments Just finished Chamomile Mourning (A Tea Shop Mystery, #6) by Laura Childs . Someone gave me a copy, so this is the first of this series I have read, but I had heard good things. I can't say I loved it though and I'm wondering if starting in the middle of the series is colouring my perceptions. I didn't like any of the characters and downright hated a couple. Maybe if I knew their background, this wouldn't be true? Those of you who have read the series in order, what do you think? Thanks!

This series can be very hard to read and there are lots of unlikeable characters...Delaine, Drayton, the cop whose name I can't think of and even Theodosia. I used to read the series and I read them from the beginning and I don't anymore because I couldn't see reading about people who just mostly pissed me off! If you don't like them now, you probably won't like them any better if you read more. The best part of the books was Earl Grey, the dog!

I'm with Melodie - I read these from the beginning and wanted to like them - tea, Charleston, what's not to like? But they all just fell flat with me - I didn't actually hate any of the characters or get pissed off, but I just never cared about any of them. Stopped reading after 4th, I think.

I really love the series. I can have a vivid imagination sometimes when reading and this one series when that works for me. I can, in my mind's eye see the tea shop and some of the characters. I really enjoy Drayton and his stuffiness. I can see mystery author Parnell Hall playing him. In fact I just got the 13th book in the series from the library today.

This is one of my favorite series. I love the tea shop and historical Charleston. Theodosia, Drayton and Hallie are three of my favorite characters but Delaine does drive me batty. Of course, Earl Gray, is the best of the bunch.

All of Derek's "darlings" seriously detract from the story for me, too! Luckily in the newest one he isn't around very much and the "sweet nothings" are kept to a minimum!

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I put it off for as long as I could, but yesterday I picked up Peril in Paperback and devoured it in one afternoon. I seriously love this series and this book was brilliant! I now have to wait until freaking June for the next one. Boo hiss and boo.

Heidi - Yes, I will admit the "Darlings" were way too frequent in the last book, but I do like Derek. But PIP has lots of quality Gabriel time and that doesn't suck either! lol

Heidi | 2446 comments I will report back after I read it then Jennifer and Melodie!

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I read the short ebook special Masked Ball at Broxley Manor by Rhys Bowen. Very very quick, fun prologue to the Lady Georgiana Mysteries.

Marja McGraw (marja1) | 994 comments I just finished Masterpiece of Murder by Evelyn Cullet. I really enjoyed it. It was lighter reading with a good storyline, and I liked her main character because she reminds me of people I know and reacts to situations like some of them would, sort of. :)It was entertaining, and that's part of what I look for.Masterpiece of Murder
