What didn't you like Jennifer?"
Kaye - there were a few things that really bugged me. The sister-in-law character was just unbelievably nasty and the main character, who is the SIL Boss(!) just rolled over and took it in the name of "family". It made me want to throw the book across the room - not what I look for in a cozy. Also, the main detective was unreasonably antagonistic immediately after walking on the scene, really over-the-top. I found it to be completely unbelievable and really leant nothing to the story development.
I want to like the "good guys" in a cozy and 3 of the biggies were weak, annoying and aggressively nasty. However, there were things I did like - the quilting background, the love interest, Buster and some of the other employees. I'm told the second and third book are better, so I might try the next in the series at some point in the future.

She also thrived in a writers world with dyslexia. But, I just didn't care for the two "Peaches Dann" books that I read. I probably won't be reading more of these, which saddens me.

I didn't like this one either. But I have no interest in gardening, which was a big strike right upfront. Have been wondering what possessed me to get this one in the first place!

I liked this one. Wasn't sure about it after the first one which I thought was mostly just so-so. This one was a HUGE improvement!

This is one of the books I just got in my Book Closeouts haul. I just need to figure out how to work it in my reading challenges :)

Thanks for letting me know. I was so hoping the first one was not just a lucky start.

This is on..."
If you are doing the "Around the USA Challenge" this one would fit for the state of Nevada. If it won't fit into any of your challenges, just remember, it is a fast, fun read so it shouldn't put much pressure on you for time.

I liked both book one and book two as well :) They are great on audiobook btw

I have never tried an audio book, but I bet this one would be great on audio.

I really liked the first one, but didn't think the 2nd one was as good. I have #3 around here someplace.

I'll have to check it out, it's available at my library.

This is the second Louisa May Alcott mystery where we read about Louisa’s life as a young woman before she became a famous author. Louisa and her family are vacationing with cousins in New Hampshire. Their rural village suffers a tragedy when a young laborer is found dead, pushed down a ravine. His sister believes one of the shopkeepers killed him so as to buy their piece of land by the railroad track, but Louisa isn’t so easily convinced. Their neighbors harbor secrets, and all isn’t what it seems in this sleepy little town. The questions build as she investigates, especially when the local sheriff suspects her close friend of being the murderer. To prove his innocence, Louisa probes into people’s lives, not realizing she’s putting her own safety at stake. Another delightful installment in a charming series.
NORWAY TO HIDE by Maddy Hunter (Mystery)
This entry in Maddy Hunter’s Passport to Peril series is just as amusing as the other stories in her repertoire. You’ll smile as you read about the antics of tour guide Emily Andrews and her senior citizens on their trip to Scandinavia. The Iowan group is dismayed to be thrown in with a bunch of Floridians, even more so when a guest turns up dead. What secrets is this troupe hiding that they’d kill to keep quiet? Norway to Hide tale will keep you guessing until the final clue.
WHAT ANGELS FEAR by C.S. Harris (Historical Mystery)
This first title in the Sebastian St. Cyr mystery series will hook you and reel you in. Accused of a heinous rape/murder, Viscount Devlin flees the authorities and takes refuge in 1811 London where he seeks to clear his name. With various allies to help him, he unravels a scheme involving French spies, political intrigue, blackmail, and greed. Evocative setting details will have you believing you’re in fog-shrouded London as you follow the hero’s adventures into disreputable alleyways and slummy inns as he searches for the killer before the man strikes again. Devlin can’t even trust his own family who harbors their own damaging secrets. At stake is the life of a woman he once loved and who loves him still. Can he unmask the villain, save the Regency, and avoid the hangman’s noose? Once you read this book, you’ll want to find more stories in Harris’s engaging series.

I've got this one near the top of The Pile!

I'll be interested (as always!) to see what you think!

Glad to hear you enjoyed this one. I have it on kindle and have been putting off reading it.

I first read this as "a dreadful read/listen ... and couldn't figure out why you said the reader was perfect LOL
*Note to self: SLOW DOWN while reading posts*

I'm glad you listed this one. As I was putting it on my TBR list, I noticed that it is also another one set in my home state, NC which I love reading. Looking forward to this one.

I added this one to my TBR list also. Sounds intriging.

Deadly Threads by Jane K. Cleland and
Dying for a Dateby Cindy Sample.
Although I like to read a series in its proper sequence, I read Deadly Threads and it is the 6th in a series. It wasn't hard to follow the story although I'm sure that if I had read the first 5 books I would have known the major players better.
Dying for a Date was the first in a series.
Both books were good but I liked Deadly Threads the best and I will go back and read the rest of the books in order.

That's definitely a turn off.

I will pass on this one...doesn't sound like that one is for me either.

I actually really enjoy this series, and I am a big time animal lover. Well, I'll say ENJOYED. Ms. Clement passed away last year and the last book she wrote came out earlier this year. Her son is supposed to continue writing the books, so I'll reserve judgment on future books.

What Melodie said. Although I don't remember any animal cruelty (and I couldn't finish Calamity Jane b/c they tried to hurt an animal), these definitely aren't lighthearted, or humorous. I'd call them melancholy cozies...

It was pretty good, but a lot of banter in it. It seemed like it just dragged it out.

I just started The Baker Street Letters, and I like it -- so far!

I haven't read "'Scuse me while I kill this guy" but it looks like a hoot. I'll have to check it out. :)
