What Cozy Did You Just Finish Reading??? (Archive)

See, I'm not a fashionista by any stretch - unless my Gap jeans count. But I love this series! I guess I sort of glaze over the name dropping and enjoy the rest of it enough the name stuff doesn't register. :)

"Queen of Afternoon Tea"

Started If Walls Could Talk? On chapter 2. I decided to stop The Spellman Files for right now. I may go back to it or maybe start the 2nd since what I read so far of the first was character development. Hope there is a "story".

Jennifer - did you read her books in order? (Carolyn Haines)

These books are very well-written. In fact, for someone like myself who is completely adverse to cheese, she does way too good a job describing the cheeses!! Have quit reading the books as the descriptions nearly make me nauseous! I think my husband should read them.....he's half rat when it comes to cheese!

Cindi - Yes, I did read all of hers in order, but I'm one of those that do read everything I can in order. Character development is a biggie for me and it drives me bonkers to read in the middle of a series and not know the history of the characters as it developed.
BUT - having said all that, I do think you should read these in order if you can, as references are made to previous stories and crimes throughout the series. I can't remember if the 'whodunit' is ever revealed, but to be safe, if you can, I'd recommend reading in order. :)

Thanks Jennifer. I have always read series in order. I tried with the Heather Webber book Deeply, Desperately. I just felt like I was missing something with having started with the second book in the series. Someone in the group had said that a lot of the cozy books can pretty much be stand alone. I don't think I could read them out of order.

Finished it yesterday and really liked it! It IS a good start to a new series. Fun characters, especially the aunts!

The fashion name-dropping didn't appeal to me either but I liked the characters and the paranormal aspect.

Thanks for the heads up that she is coming out with a new series :)

I've read the first 3 Spellman books. IMO, you need to put a larger space between the books as they jump all over the place and aren't really 'peaceful'. I enjoy them because they are different and I can't guess what is going to happen next so they distract me from 'life'. I'll wait a few more months before tackling the 4th book.

Just started reading Red Velvet Revenge by Jenn McKinlay. One of my favorite cozy series.

I was the one that didn't like QUILT OR INNOCENCE. I think there were too many stereotypical types for me maybe. I'll be starting RED VELVET REVENGE in the next day or so. The series is one of my favorites, too.
Just finished a re-read of And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. It's been so long since I read it, it was almost like reading it for the first time.

Heather - did you read Katherine Hall Page's The Body in the Ivy? It's her take on Christie's book. Takes place in Maine and it's a great mystery. I thought it was one of Page's best.
I just finished Three Act Tragedy by Agatha Christie. As usual with her books, the mystery & solution were fantastic! This was a Poirot novel, but he wasn't in it as much. He let other people do the investigating and he thought it all through to determine the killer. I would have liked to have seen more of him. Other than that, no complaints!

No, have never heard of her, but will write down the title to watch for. Thanks for the rec!

Hi April! I started that book and just never finished it. Not really sure why though. Maybe I should start it again, or pick up where I left off.

I loved all 3 books in this series. Hated to hear that there wouldn't be any more.

I have that one on the way but was nervous about buying it - I'm glad to hear you liked it! :)

BUT - this is not what some of you would call a cozy - I call it a chick-lit mystery. A bit more language, a tiny bit more explicit on the romance front. :)

If you liked this one, you're sure to like Ellery Adams's new series starting with Pies and Prejudice. It's really good.

Jennifer, you are the FASTEST reader!!!

Jennifer, you are the FASTEST reader!!!"
lol - not the fastest, I'm certain, but I am off work this week and the weather here is yuck - cold and rainy and no sun at all. Plus, we did a massive clean of our house over last weekend, so I'm left with nothing to do but read! :D
