See, I'm not a fashionista by any stretch - unless my Gap jeans count. But I love this series! I guess I sort of glaze over the name dropping and enjoy the rest of it enough the name stuff doesn't register. :)

Nancy Thames (mysterywriterdiva) | 24 comments I just finished C.L. Ragsdale's The Wrong Ghost (The Reboot Files #4) by C.L. Ragsdale and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a quick read and hooked me for the previous books in the Reboot series. No murder - just a good ghost story.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Once again, I stayed up too late so I could finish Bonefire of the Vanities by Carolyn Haines . It was worth it though - diabolical ending!!! Love this series.

Cindi Schultz (scrappy1teacher) | 56 comments Jennifer - did you read her books in order? (Carolyn Haines)

Started If Walls Could Talk? On chapter 2. I decided to stop The Spellman Files for right now. I may go back to it or maybe start the 2nd since what I read so far of the first was character development. Hope there is a "story".

These books are very well-written. In fact, for someone like myself who is completely adverse to cheese, she does way too good a job describing the cheeses!! Have quit reading the books as the descriptions nearly make me nauseous! I think my husband should read them.....he's half rat when it comes to cheese!

Cindi - Yes, I did read all of hers in order, but I'm one of those that do read everything I can in order. Character development is a biggie for me and it drives me bonkers to read in the middle of a series and not know the history of the characters as it developed.

BUT - having said all that, I do think you should read these in order if you can, as references are made to previous stories and crimes throughout the series. I can't remember if the 'whodunit' is ever revealed, but to be safe, if you can, I'd recommend reading in order. :)

Thanks Jennifer. I have always read series in order. I tried with the Heather Webber book Deeply, Desperately. I just felt like I was missing something with having started with the second book in the series. Someone in the group had said that a lot of the cozy books can pretty much be stand alone. I don't think I could read them out of order.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Just finished Pies and Prejudice by Ellery Adams . I think it's a good start to a new series.

The fashion name-dropping didn't appeal to me either but I liked the characters and the paranormal aspect.

Emma | 109 comments Just finished The Anatomist's Apprentice and gave it 5 stars. It's not exactly a cozy, but not a real grisly mystery either. I would compare it to Deanna Raybourn's style if I had to. But man, was it good! I highly recommend, although now I'm upset that I have to wait forever for the 2nd in the series to come out.

I've read the first 3 Spellman books. IMO, you need to put a larger space between the books as they jump all over the place and aren't really 'peaceful'. I enjoy them because they are different and I can't guess what is going to happen next so they distract me from 'life'. I'll wait a few more months before tackling the 4th book.

message 4471: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (gravy) I just finished Fatally Frosted. I'm hooked on this series.

message 4472: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (dragon57) I just finished reading Quilt or Innocence by Elizabeth Craig. Saw someone earlier had said that they didn't like it but I enjoyed it.

Just started reading Red Velvet Revenge by Jenn McKinlay. One of my favorite cozy series.

I was the one that didn't like QUILT OR INNOCENCE. I think there were too many stereotypical types for me maybe. I'll be starting RED VELVET REVENGE in the next day or so. The series is one of my favorites, too.

Just finished a re-read of And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. It's been so long since I read it, it was almost like reading it for the first time.

Heather - did you read Katherine Hall Page's The Body in the Ivy? It's her take on Christie's book. Takes place in Maine and it's a great mystery. I thought it was one of Page's best.

message 4477: by [deleted user] (new)

I just finished Three Act Tragedy by Agatha Christie. As usual with her books, the mystery & solution were fantastic! This was a Poirot novel, but he wasn't in it as much. He let other people do the investigating and he thought it all through to determine the killer. I would have liked to have seen more of him. Other than that, no complaints!

No, have never heard of her, but will write down the title to watch for. Thanks for the rec!

Hi April! I started that book and just never finished it. Not really sure why though. Maybe I should start it again, or pick up where I left off.

April | 21 comments I started it and wasn't sure I wanted to read it. But the more I got into it the more I had to finish it. It was great!!

Cindi Schultz (scrappy1teacher) | 56 comments Has anyone read any of the books by H. P. Mallory? If so, any good?

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I picked up Death, Taxes, and Extra-Hold Hairspray (Death and Taxes #3) by Diane Kelly from the TBR pile thinking it would be one I could put down at a reasonable hour and go to sleep. Well, that's what I get for thinking! Closed the book at 3am - it was, imo, the best one in the series so far.

BUT - this is not what some of you would call a cozy - I call it a chick-lit mystery. A bit more language, a tiny bit more explicit on the romance front. :)

lol - not the fastest, I'm certain, but I am off work this week and the weather here is yuck - cold and rainy and no sun at all. Plus, we did a massive clean of our house over last weekend, so I'm left with nothing to do but read! :D

School starts back here August 1st!!!!! :-((((( doing as much reading as I can over The next few weeks, I'm just not a very fast reader.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Melodie - you can have it! lol. Although, having gone through what you guys are just coming out of, I'm not willing to do a trade. And I try not to be ungrateful for the rain - when I first moved here they were in a drought so serious they were down to only 30% of the reservoir capacity and if not for a La Nína I don't know what Melbourne would have done for water. Still for a Florida girl, the lack of sunshine requires adjustment. :)

On the plus side, I've just finished Lethal Outlook (Psychic Eye Mystery, #10) by Victoria Laurie and I think it might be one of the best she's written in recent memory. I found my heart absolutely pounding at the end of it.
