DonnaCarol | 316 comments I just finished "Greedy Bones" by Carolyn Haines. Greedy Bones (Sarah Booth Delaney, #9) by Carolyn Haines First time reading a Sarah Booth Delaney book. The female characters are strong and fairly independant. Likeable.Believeable. I will read another in this series, but after Animal Appetite, and Greedy Bones in one week, I will make sure my next read has LOTS of wit/humor.

Nell | 1223 comments I read Killer Market by Margaret Maron. Very good mystery. It was outside of her usual milieu and without any of the recurring characters, including her large family. I'm looking forward to reading the next one when she's back home.
Killer Market (Deborah Knott Mysteries #5) by Margaret Maron

Erin L (wellreadmoose) | 505 comments I read Dead In The Water (Kate Shugak, #3) by Dana Stabenow last week, but I'm not sure I'd call this a cozy, really. I do love the series though.

Also finished Some Like it Lethal (Blackbird Sisters Mystery, #3) by Nancy Martin which was good, but not great. I am enjoying that series a lot though.

DonnaCarol | 316 comments Finished "Owls Well That Ends Well" by Donna Andrews. I really like this series and this one did not disappoint. Lots of humor, quirky , likeable characters and a surprise twist at the end. Owls Well That Ends Well (Meg Langslow, #6) by Donna Andrews

Erin L (wellreadmoose) | 505 comments Finished Affairs of Steak (A White House Chef Mystery #5) by Julie Hyzy last night. I've been keeping up with Julie Hyzy's books and enjoying them, but I found this one irritated me a bit. I'll keep reading them though.

I noticed you said this was the first book you read by her. Is this they type of series that you do not have to read in the correct order?

Not DonnaCarol, but IMHO you don't have to read ANY series in order!! Why deprive yourself of a great read just because you haven't read the 1 or 10 before it?!?! You could get hit by a bus and then you missed out on something good!

OGM! That is so funny! I just assumed that they HAD to be read in order! I am SOOOO glad to know that now! I've been driving myself crazy trying to read them in order! I feel like awhile new door was just opened! Thanks!!!

Cindi Schultz (scrappy1teacher) | 56 comments Oh and not sure if this is the right place for me to post this but for those of you who have any kind of ereader device, I discovered a great website where you can subscribe per month to download books - unlimited. It's called ebookr.com I LOVE it!! It has saved me a TON of money! However, not all authors ore on it and it does not have every title the author wrote - hence why I am beside myself with new excitement knowing cozy books do not have to be read on order!
I hope it was not inappropriate for me to post that here (if at all). It's helped me save money and thought I would share!

Cindi - I suggest posting this in the Cozy discussion threads for Kindle Cheap Reads and for Nook users. (They're located in different sections.) You can copy and paste it to both. Not everyone will see this great tip here. And thanks for letting us know.

I agree with Melodie and Kari. Most of the series I do try to read in order, but I have read out of order because I just had trouble getting them all. I have found, as with this first Haines, that it really didn't "ruin" the other books. And usually by the time I get the next one, I have read so many other authors in between, that I don't remember all the details that much anyway.

Is this the second in a series? Clicking on the bookcover no longer shows the author. What did you think of this one?

message 4371: by Erin L (new)

Erin L (wellreadmoose) | 505 comments I'm a little crazy in that I try my absolute best to read the books in order. I've picked up books at the used bookstore and left them on the shelf until I picked up the books that came before them. It's ridiculous, I know.

But most series do not need to be read in order (except maybe the Dresden Files because there are some big spoilers in later books)

So do I. Character development is one of the things I love in cozy mysteries. I may skip a title in the series if I haven't been able to find it but I still read the ones I have in order. And when I find a title in a series at a UBS, I get it right then while it's available for a fraction of cover price.

Nell, I hadn't noticed that you don't get the author's name anymore :( Threaded for Trouble (Janet Bolin) is the second book. I think I enjoyed the first book a little more than this one. This book was good, but it kind of dragged on.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Finished Grace Among Thieves by Julie Hyzy yesterday. I like this series and this one was good.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) :D Just zipped through Corpse in the Crystal Ball (Fortune Teller Mystery, #2) by Kari Lee Townsend . I liked the first one well enough - but I liked this one much better! Could become one of my favourite series! :)

I was iffy on the first one and not sure whether to give it another try. I'm sure that I will now. Thanks for the rec.

Nell, the first one felt a bit silly and flighty to me but this one felt more like a solid cozy - I hope you find it to be the same. :)

The next one is the best of the 3, IMHO!

DonnaCarol | 316 comments Earlier today I finished "Killer Crullers" by Jessica Beck. Killer Crullers (A Donut Shop Mystery, #6) by Jessica Beck I forgot that I have a few issues with Suzanne Harts personality. She often comes off as harsh (IMO). In this #6 in the series, she seems to show a more likeable , careing side. I think this is my favorite in the series so far.

Best time to read isn't it Jennifer? Quiet, no distractions, cat purring at your feet. But morning comes way too fast. :(

I concur! I am constantly up later than intended due to being held hostage by a good book. : D

I've read 2 or 3 in this series and just never cared that much for them. Harper's relationship with her "brother" just bugged the crap out of me.

Yes, I get a weird vibe from them. They are closer than a brother and sister should be, even though they aren't technically related.

Good to know. I haven't kept up with this series even though I have the books on my shelves.

message 4397: by Carol (new)

Carol (carol121) | 22 comments I recently read The Corpse in the Crystal Ball and I hated it. The main character is just too immature and annoying. I read the First one in the series The Tempest in the Teapot and I didn't love it but I thought I would give it another chance with the second book but I liked the second one even less. This is the first series I haven't liked. I just finished Secondhand Spirits by Juliet Blackwell and I loved it. I am on the second one now A Cast-Off Coven (A Witchcraft Mystery, #2) by Juliet Blackwell and I am really enjoying it.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Finished The Diva Digs Up the Dirt (A Domestic Diva Mystery) by Krista Davis (and before midnight too!). Excellent story and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in the next book. Should be interesting...

DonnaCarol | 316 comments I just finished "DEAD CANARIES DON"T SING" by: Cynthia Baxter. Another first for me. I liked the book, thought the plot well thought out, but I did not especially like the lead female character (sleuth)Jessie. Not as much LOL humor as I prefer, but they can't all be a Stephanie( Evanovich )or an Aspen( Kelly Cochran )I know she( Jessie) has past issues, but geeez. I kept thinking, get over it and grow up. I think Nick deserves better. I will try the next "A Reigning Cats & Dogs Mystery to see if I like her better.
