Nell | 1223 comments Read Cake on a Hot Tin Roof (A Piece of Cake Mystery #2) by Jacklyn Brady Cake on a Hot Tin Roof by Jacklyn Brady. This is the second in this series and it's not as good as the first. Most of what made the first one interesting is missing. I'll try the next one and hope she returns to the character relationships that made it work.

Linda This morning I finished reading File M for Murder (Cat in the Stacks Mystery, #3) by Miranda James . It was a true puzzle, written in fine Agatha Christie fashion. I enjoyed putting the pieces together in my own head to try to come up with the killer!

Susie Fevella (susieinks) | 821 comments Just finished 50% Off Murder by Josie Belle . It was good, but I agree with Deb that there wasn't anything special about it.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I sort of feel the same way about The Long Stitch Good Night An Embroidery Mystery by Amanda Lee . It wasn't great.

I just finished reading An Appetite for Murder by Lucy Burdette. First of a new series and a winner! (After I took a couple of pages to know the characters.)

Rebecca | 70 comments Just finished Tressed to Kill (Southern Beauty Shop, #1) by Lila Dare it was enjoy enjoyable but it didn't knock my socks off or anything ..I would probably read another though ..just because its set in the south and a salon

Lucy Burdette is Roberta Isleib who has written 2 other mystery series - one that is golf themed and the other a psychologist (which is Isleib's professional background). Glad to hear this one was good it's in my TBR.

Vivien | 8 comments Just finished reading the final book in the Roy Grace series by Peter James. Can't wait for the 7th June when new book in this series is released.

Nell | 1223 comments The Limpopo Academy of Private Detection by Alexander McCall Smith The Limpopo Academy of Private Detection by Alexander McCall Smith - Very good entry in this series. This one focuses on problems faced by familiar characters, develops their stories and introduces a new face that has often been referred to in previous books.

message 4260: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments finished Gem of a Ghost (A Ghost of Granny Apples Mystery, #3) by Sue Ann Jaffarian . A good one, but I liked the 2nd one better.

I just finished this one as well and enjoyed it very much. Very relaxed pace and an interesting 'set' of local mysteries.

Erin L (wellreadmoose) | 505 comments Reading M Is for Malice M Is for Malice by Sue Grafton and Real Murders (Aurora Teagarden, #1) by Charlaine Harris Real Murders. Enjoying both, but it's easy to see how Charlaine Harris's writing has changed and improved over the years.

The Odelia books get better as they go, too! I'm looking forward to the new one in a few months as I'm all current on the series.

Nell | 1223 comments Murder on Fifth Avenue (Gaslight Mystery #14) by Victoria Thompson Murder on Fifth Avenue by Victoria Thompson. Excellent - intriguing characters, compelling mystery, satisfying resolution. This one scores on all points.

For sure.

Michele | 38 comments I just finished "50% Off Murder" By Josie Belle. It started slow and I wasn't sure I was going to like it, but it became entertaining and the characters developed along with the plot, in the end I really enjoyed it and am hoping for a follow-up book! The book has less to do with saving money and coupons and shopping and more to do with a group of friends, a murder and a maybe romance. Fun! I recommend it to those looking for a light, speedy and cute read.

message 4269: by Sue (new)

Sue (suetinge) | 622 comments I finished Gypped A Regan Reilly Mystery (Regan Reilly Mysteries, #18) by Carol Higgins Clark the other day - I probably would have enjoyed it more if I had read some of the earlier ones. There seemed to be no character development.

message 4270: by Erin L (new)

Erin L (wellreadmoose) | 505 comments Read M Is for Malice (Kinsey Millhone, #13) by Sue Grafton on the weekend. I know it's not really a cozy but it's close enough :)

message 4271: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 485 comments I just finished Sprinkle with Murder (A Cupcake Bakery Mystery, #1) by Jenn McKinlay . I really enjoyed it. I thought the book was well paced and had good characters. Can't wait to read the others in the series.

message 4272: by Brittany S. (new)

Brittany S. (brittanysbooksandbeyond) I just finished A Deadly Row by Casey Mayes. Man, I was so disappointed! I really did not like the main character Savannah and I didn't like the way the book unfolded. I felt like there was a lack of action and mystery that was developed and I was actively bored until literally the very end. So bummed :(

message 4273: by Maurie (last edited May 07, 2012 08:22PM) (new)

Maurie (mauriek) | 11 comments I just finished The Big Kitty and really enjoyed this first in what I hope proves to be a long running series. Great main cat character, he's got smarts and spunk! The Big Kitty by Claire Donally

message 4274: by Emily (new)

Emily I just finished Brownies and Broomsticks (A Magical Bakery Mystery #1) by Bailey Cates . Really great read. Enjoyed the main and side characters and the plot held my interest all the way through.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath)

Finished Death Comes Silently (Death on Demand, #22) by Carolyn Hart last night. This book took longer for me to read than usual, but I think that's just because I've been kept too busy to read lately. I enjoyed it - it was like a visit with old friends. :)

message 4276: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (ladyvictoria5) | 218 comments Just finished the last of Anne George's 'Sister' Series. Laugh out loud funny. Also 'Sprinkle With Murder' Sprinkle with Murder (A Cupcake Bakery Mystery, #1) by Jenn McKinlay by Jenn McKinlay. Count me in as a thumbs up!

message 4277: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Oddly, my most recent mystery reads are both set in the 1920s. It's unusual for me to group books in time like that. And I was afraid it would get confusing but actually it just kind of enriched the experience.

Murder Your Darlings Murder Your Darlings (An Algonquin Round Table Mystery #1) by J.J. Murphy which is another in the Dorothy Parker/Algonquin Round Table series. Love the stories but about three times I was thrown off by anachronisms. He needs to watch that.

Requiem for a Mezzo Requiem for a Mezzo (Daisy Dalrymple, #3) by Carola Dunn which is third in the Daisy Dalrymple mystery series. These are well-crafted with well-fleshed out characters. They aren't un-put-down-able, but they are very good.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath)

I finished A Deadly Grind (A Vintage Kitchen Mystery #1) by Victoria Hamilton last night. I was interrupted too many times during reading this book to have a clear idea of whether I liked it or not. I never got a chance to immerse myself in the story, so it feels a bit disjointed.

message 4279: by Erin L (new)

Erin L (wellreadmoose) | 505 comments I finally gave up on The Beekeeper's Apprentice (Mary Russell, #1) by Laurie R. King . While I get what she was trying to do, I found Mary a cumbersome narrator. The first third of the book seemed quite extraneous and I struggled to like her - especially given her treatment of Watson.

message 4280: by Sue (new)

Sue (suetinge) | 622 comments I finished Ghost a la Mode (A Ghost of Granny Apples Mystery, #1) by Sue Ann Jaffarian yesterday. Need to add the rest of that series to my TBR.

message 4281: by Susie (new)

Susie Fevella (susieinks) | 821 comments Just finished All Sales Fatal (A Mall Cop Mystery, #2) by Laura DiSilverio . A very good book!

message 4282: by DonnaCarol (last edited May 11, 2012 10:05PM) (new)

DonnaCarol | 316 comments Cindy,
Since you are familiar with the St.Louis area, you should enjoy reading Kelly Cochrans 1st in a new series "BUYING TIME". It is also set in and around the St.Louis Areas. The cast of characters are believable without being boring and the main character, Aspen Moore is someone that I would like to be. She is strong but witty, with the perfect balance of intelligence and vulnerability. The humor in this book had such a natural flow, having me laughing out loud at times and a good chuckle at other times. I just finished reading it last night and am looking forward to 2nd in the series, "Borrowed Time". The perfect blend of "chuckle, LOL, romance, and Who Done it".

message 4283: by Sue (new)

Sue (suetinge) | 622 comments Donna, that looks interesting and it's only $2.99 for the Kindle.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath)

I sat down last night for the first time in a while and started Brownies and Broomsticks (A Magical Bakery Mystery #1) by Bailey Cates. Loved it! Finished it before I went to bed and it was all I could hope a first in a new series to be. :)

Finally finished Bookmarked For Death by Lorna Barrett yesterday. Had a hard time getting through this one. I wanted to like it a lot more than I did, but the goose issue got old after a couple chapters and started to grate on my nerves.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath)

Jan (libraryhag) | 82 comments I just finished It Takes a Witch (A Wishcraft Mystery, #1) by Heather Blake by Heather Blake. It was fun.

message 4289: by Violette (new)

Violette Severin | 12 comments I just finished The Square Root of Murder by Ada Madison. It is a Professor Sophie Knowles Mystery. I love this series because the main character is a brilliant woman. Sophie teaches mathematics at a college and writes math puzzles for her students. I think this is the first series featuring such an intelligent woman.

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) | 630 comments I mis-posted my book it was City of Whispers, not Cries and Whispers, this is an Ingmar Bergman film.

message 4296: by Michele (new)

Michele | 38 comments I just finished "A DEADLY GRIND" first in a new series, and WOW! I am hooked! It was so great and the person I thought it was, wasn't! Very well-written, concise and not a lot of bickering between characters which drives me nuts! Highly recommend this book to cozy lovers! The author is Victoria Hamilton.

message 4297: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 10 comments I just finished reading "Trouble in Mudbug" and was it a hoot. It had all the great trappings of a mystery - murder, lies, a ghost, romance and the butler didn't do it. This is a quick fun read and I got it in a Kindle special for FREE! Check it out. It was still on the free list last I checked.

message 4298: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (ladyvictoria5) | 218 comments Just completed a new to me author Nora Charles. Hurricane Homicide (Senior Sleuth, #4) by Nora Charles Hurricane Homicide is #4 in the series and I will now track down the three I missed. Another 'senior investigators' genre of cozy, suggested by Carolyn Hart in one of her Death on Demand books. I was very pleasantly surprised that the humor and originality.

Linda A few days ago I finished reading A Killer Read by Erika Chase . First in a new series, it was a real puzzler, with all sorts of twists and turns that were fun to contemplate. I'm definitely going to look forward to the next one in this series.
