I liked this one, too. The killer totally surprised me.

bella (thespiceflows) Just finished Death of a Trophy Wife. I really liked it, a lot more than the previous one and will definitely be picking up the next one.

This one just hit all the right bells & whistles for me. I gave it 5 stars!

message 4155: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) One more done, 26 to go. Finished As The Pig Turns As The Pig Turns (Agatha Raisin, #22) by M.C. Beaton and was busily congratulating myself that I'm all caught up on this author when I found out she has published not one, but two more Hamish MacBeth since last I checked. Sigh. This one wasn't bad. She's been phoning them in somewhat the last couple years but still highly readable.

Anne Pichette | 65 comments Ijust finished Mum's the Word (A Flower Shop Mystery, #1) by Kate Collins I enjoyed it. I will read more of the series

message 4157: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 7 comments disappointed in Crunch Time Crunch Time (A Goldy Bear Culinary Mystery #16) by Diane Mott Davidson - maybe series is too long

26 to go? What does that mean?

I usually read books in batches of 8 to 10. This time I went nuts picking books and wound up with 35. In my other groups the countdown has been being followed, somewhat tongue in cheek. I'm pretty sure they think I'm crazy but not dangerous.

message 4161: by [deleted user] (new)

Just finished Paper-Thin Alibi Paper-Thin Alibi (Craft Corner Mystery, #3) by Mary Ellen Hughes . I really enjoyed this series and was sorry to learn that there are only 3 books in it.

message 4162: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Michael | 92 comments Not sure if it really meets all the 'cozy' criteria, quite a few murders, but not 'hard edged' either. Finished Tracking Perception this morning.

message 4167: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments Finished Buried in Buttercream (Savannah Reid Mystery, #17) by G.A. McKevett . I've been disappointed with the last 3 in this series. It's almost like someone else is writing them. They don't "sound" the same.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Just finished Let Them Eat Stake (A Vampire Chef Mystery #2) by Sarah Zettel . Liked it. :)

Funny you said that Melodie because I started reading A Decadent Way to Die not too long ago and ended up setting it aside for later. I love this author, but the book just didn't feel right. Guess I need to try again.

Julie (gpangel) | 63 comments Oh

message 4171: by Julie (new)

Julie (gpangel) | 63 comments Oh that's terrible about the Dean Koontz novel. I haven't read it yet but it's in my TBR list. You know, I've come across that with most authors at one time or another. Dean is a very good writer, and one of my favorites. But, he has written a few stinkers.

message 4172: by Julie (new)

Julie (gpangel) | 63 comments Yes, I agree with you about Patterson. It's hit or miss these days. I will probably try the Dean Koontz since I have already put it on the list. The last one I read of his I didn't like. Like I said, hit or miss. Books are too expensive to experiment with these days though.

message 4173: by Sue (new)

Sue (suetinge) | 622 comments I've pretty much given up on Patterson. I've got one in the pile, but I can't get myself motivated to read it.

Julie (gpangel) | 63 comments I like the cross series. Can take or leave the others

message 4175: by Toni (new)

Toni (cherrycherry) | 57 comments Jennifer wrote: "Just finished Let Them Eat Stake (A Vampire Chef Mystery #2) by Sarah Zettel. Liked it. :)"

Was it better than the first? I was on the fence with A Taste of the Nightlife (A Vampire Chef Mystery #1) by Sarah Zettel but did buy Let them Eat Stake since it can take a series a book or 2 to really get its groove.

message 4176: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Another one down. 25 to go. Finished Last Car To Elysian Fields Last Car To Elysian Fields (Dave Robicheaux, #13) by James Lee Burke . James Lee Burke never disappoints.

Weelll... I'm not really sure it was better but it was definitely not worse. The main character - Chef Caine - still feels a bit cold to me. But I like the other characters and I thought the plot was good.

message 4178: by Ariel (new)

Ariel (sevenmoonlight) | 138 comments I finished One Book in the Grave by Kate Carlisle and enjoyed it. It was just what I needed at the moment. You have to love that.

message 4179: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments Finished The Cat Sitter's Pajamas (A Dixie Hemingway Mystery #7) by Blaize Clement . A good read, but not as good as others in the series. Am interested to see where the series goes now that her son will be writing it since her death last year.

message 4180: by Karen M (new)

Karen M | 1436 comments I just finished Orange as Marmalade and I'm still puzzled. The writing reminded me of the Miss Julia books which are not mysteries. I enjoyed the book but the murder seemed almost a side note. Don't think I read anymore of these.

message 4181: by Susie (new)

Susie Fevella (susieinks) | 821 comments Just finished Thread Reckoning (An Embroidery Mystery, #3) by Amanda Lee . Enjoyed the story but I hope this series isn't going to be like the romance triangle in the Fluke books ;(

I loved these books! Was so sorry the series ended with just 3 books.

message 4186: by Celia (new)

Celia Juliano I just finished The Limpopo Academy of Private Detection and loved it! I've enjoyed all the books in the series, but this one was particularly good. I've been busy and hadn't seen the latest group reads--think I'll take a look. Cozies are comforting and I especially like the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency Series because they focus on "lesser" crimes, rather than murder.

Did the publisher refuse to continue the series, or did the author just decide not to continue it? It almost sounds like it was the publisher's ill-thought-out and short-sighted decision. Just curious! :)

It was the publisher. I e-mailed Wendy Watson a year or so ago and she replied and told me they decided not to pick up any more.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Which means the series ended on a hell of a cliff-hanger if I remember correctly? Damn publishers...

No. On her website she says there will be another one. Plus you've still got the 3rd one to go and there's a short story, too, that you can get on Kindle.

Yeah, I've got the third and the novella lined up but thought I'd get worried early and avoid the rush. But thank you for letting me know there's another in the offing-- YAY!!! Standing down on the angst now.....
