Melodie - can you let us know the name of the novella? I'd love to read it. :)

Zoe (bookwormfromathens) | 712 comments I finished A Taste of the Nightlife (A Vampire Chef Mystery #1) by Sarah Zettel and Liver Let Die (A Clueless Cook Mystery #1) by Liz Lipperman .I liked them but I wasn't crazy about them. I'll give the second books in both series another try, though.

I liked A Taste of the Nightlife (A Vampire Chef Mystery #1) by Sarah Zettel . Not so much Liver Let Die (A Clueless Cook Mystery #1) by Liz Lipperman .

Susie Fevella (susieinks) | 821 comments Finally finished A Cookie Before Dying (A Cookie Cutter Shop Mystery, #2) by Virginia Lowell . It took me awhile to get into it, but it turned out to be pretty good.

message 3807: by Ann (new)

Ann (bookwoman247) | 18 comments I just finished The Sultan's Seal (Kamil Pasha, #1) by Jenny White , which I'm not 100% sure qualifies as a cozy. It is set in the waning days of the Ottoman Empire, and a local magistrate is aided by the British Ambassador's daughter to solve the murder of an English governess, which may be linked to the death of an English governess eight years prior. I'm calling it a cozy because the ambassador's daughter plays a big role in helping to solve the murders.

I found this to be refreshingly different. The political intrigue was interesting, and there was a mildly romantic tone which was entertaining.

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) | 630 comments Has anyone ever read Caro Peacock books, it is usually Victorian mystery themed. The last one I read of hers, she became friends with Disraeli, the prime minister of London at the time.

Kaye (momgee) | 862 comments Just finished Devil's Food Cake Murder (Hannah Swensen, #14) by Joanne Fluke and liked it. Nice little surprise at the end.

message 3810: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Jarvis (screalwriter) | 153 comments I just finished Donna Fletcher Crow's "A Darkly Hidden Truth." It might get nods as a Christian book, slightly romantic book, definitely historical mystery (it's set currently but delves into a great deal of religious history)and could even qualify as a Rick Steves type tour book, but I'd still place it on a cozy mystery read list. It was highly entertaining.

message 3811: by Sherry (new)

Sherry | 137 comments I just finished A Timely Vision (A Missing Pieces Mystery, #1) by Joyce Lavene and liked it well enough that I have already put the second book in this series on "hold" at the library. Since I liked their Peggy Lee Garden Mysteries series so well, after I caught up on all of those, I thought I'd try another of their series. I'm glad I did!

message 3812: by Susan (new)

Susie Fevella (susieinks) | 821 comments Today I finished Deadly Appraisal (Josie Prescott, #2) by Jane K. Cleland . I've read the first two books in the series, but I'm not really hooked yet. I may try just one more before giving up.

Kaye (momgee) | 862 comments Finished Affairs of Steak (A White House Chef Mystery #5) by Julie Hyzy and liked it a lot.

message 3823: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Just finished Home for a Spell Home for a Spell (A Bewitching Mystery, #7) by Madelyn Alt which I think I liked best in the series so far. Can't wait for the next!

message 3824: by Joan (new)

Joan Young (sharkbytes) | -455 comments I have not read the Moonstone, but definitely should, just for the historical value to the genre.

message 3825: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Just finished Home for a Spell Home for a Spell (A Bewitching Mystery, #7) by Madelyn Alt -- probably my favorite in this series so far, and now I'm completely current in that series. Next up is Murder by Mocha Murder by Mocha (Coffeehouse Mystery, #10) by Cleo Coyle and then I'll be completely caught up on that series as well.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I just finished Maid of Murder (India Hayes Mystery #1) by Amanda Flower . The cover compares it to the Meg Langslow series by Donna Andrews. One my favourites. This book does NOT resemble the Meg Langslow series. So it suffered by comparison. 2 stars. I've already bought the second one, so we'll see how that goes.

Joan Young (sharkbytes) | -455 comments I just finished Grounds for Murder by Sandra Balzo. Grounds for Murder (Maggy Thorsen Mystery #2) by Sandra Balzo It's apparently part of a series featuring Maggy Thorson. Maggy is a bit snarky and there is a lot of sexual innuendo that I didn't need, but younger readers might like it. The pace is fast and sometimes seems fragmented, but the plot is satisfyingly complex.

message 3832: by Pamela (new)

Pamela (pamelaterry) Just finished Hot Six :)

I've read the whole series and really like it! Although I'm not going to fit in the 'younger readers' demographic any longer. lol :)

Nell | 1223 comments Earlier this week I finished The Cold Light of Mourning by Elizabeth Duncan The Cold Light of Mourning (A Penny Brannigan Mystery #1) by Elizabeth J. Duncan . It was pretty good. I like the main characters. Penny actually works with the police detectives. There are good descriptions of the people and place, but the mystery was easy to solve. This was the first in the series and I will read the next one.

message 3836: by [deleted user] (new)

This was my favorite mystery read of 2011. I read it twice - something I almost never do - and loved it even more the second time. It was a favorite of my in-person book group too.

Susie Fevella (susieinks) | 821 comments I just finished It Takes a Witch (A Wishcraft Mystery, #1) by Heather Blake . I loved it! But, then again, it seems I love everything by this author ;)

Shelly (goodreadscomsueshelly) | 12 comments Hi Kari - I just finished Elvis and the Dearly Departed (A Southern Cousins Mystery, #1) by Peggy Webb this morning. I got the book free through Barnes and Noble Nook and thought it might be fun to read. I enjoyed the characters, especially Fayrene who can't seem to get the right word all of the time, and its nice to have a book that will make you laugh out loud once in a while.

Nell | 1223 comments Finished Evans Above (Constable Evans Mysteries #1) by Rhys Bowen Evans Above yesterday. The first in this series by Rhys Bowen. Great mystery. I've already started the next one, Evan Help Us. Evan Help Us (Constable Evans Mysteries #2) by Rhys Bowen I read and like her Royal Spyness series and liked the early Molly Murphy mysteries.

Yes, I finished that one and it was okay, some good and some not so good. I mostly had a hard time connecting with the main character.

I've only read the first 5, definitely have to read the rest. There hasn't been a new one in forever so I'm assuming [author:Rhys Bowen|202867] is no longer writing this series but I do enjoy her other two series.

I just finished Through a Glass, Deadly and look forward to reading the other 2.

I just finished my third Coyle coffee house mystery,
lethal latte. The character, Ms. Cozy, is well defined and realistic as well as the characters in her life-- ex-husband and romantic prospect unhappily married detective Mike Quinn. The mysteries unravel pretty well for the amateur sleuth and coffee barista.

message 3850: by Shelly (new)

Shelly (goodreadscomsueshelly) | 12 comments I have only read one coffee house mystery, but I enjoyed it very much. I didn't know there was a whole science behind making espresso... but there were some good tips.
