What Cozy Did You Just Finish Reading??? (Archive)
I just found out that there was a Hamish Macbeth series in the mid 90's as a BBC series, not what I expected my Hamish Macbeth to look like. I just finished A Highland Christmas, Kissing Christmas Goodbye, and now onto A spoonful of Poison. I have borrowed a ton of these books to get me through the winter doldrums.LOL Also finished the Vicious Vet,Death of a Dreamer, and Death of a Witch. All good.

I finished
, which is one of my cozy group's reads for January. I was surprised how much I liked it and I plan on reading the next book in the series. I wasn't too sure about the witchcraft component since it is not really my thing, but I found the main character to be sweet and charming - a good thing in a cozy protagonist! :)
Last night I finished the first in a new series:
. It was a fun, light read with a husband and wife team protagonist. Lots of witty dialog and kooky characters. Definitely a good start to the series.
Finished
Murder on the Eightfold Path, which is the third in this series. It was a free book from the table in my apartment lobby. I really enjoyed the book - the characters and the story. Will go back and read the first book in this series.

I finished
yesterday. I hesitate to call it a cozy, more like chick lit mystery, but I'll post it here anyway. Not a bad read though I think I would have enjoyed it more if not distracted by the holidays and out-of-town guests. I'll read the next one.I also just finished Kate Carlisle's new novella Pages of Sin (which wasn't coming up in search as a link - even though I know it's there). I had to do some creative Amazon'ing to get this book since it's not available in AU yet, but it's a great novella - just perfect as a warm up to her next book out next month - One Book in the Grave.
Just finished Assault with a Deadly Glue Gun. Got it for free on Kindle within the last couple of days. Fast, easy read. I haven't read any cozies in a while, so I enjoyed it.
I just ripped through
. Love the ghost story aspects of this series a lot. The murder mystery sort of felt neglected until the second half of the book, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to the next one.

, and I'm not usually "catty," but I guess it's the disappointment talking. I didn't care for the second installment of the Cat in the Stacks Mysteries as much as the first one. I actually became tired of hearing about Diesel, found Charlie a little whiny, and was ready to toss Dante out the window, along with Sean, Charlie's son, who tried his best to be a strong character but couldn't shake his teenaged sulkiness. The ending was cliched and I'm reluctant to read next installment.

Sorry to hear you didn't like this one. I read it back in May and gave it 4 stars. I found the totally weird family fascinating!
Finished
last night. I liked this one better than the first two. The main character was more likeable to me.

I thought this one had kind of an Agatha Christie feel about it, and found it extremely appealing.
Just finished
. I know this isn't a popular series with some, but I just love it. It's scary, but it's over the top enough that I can read it before going to bed without worrying about losing sleep. :) Although I'd like to see Gilley undergo a complete personality transplant. Still, looking forward to the next book.

I forget which one it was but it had ghost witches on broomsticks. Just too silly for me and the one last year was the nail in the coffin for me. The last Abby Cooper book was ridiculous, too, and if the next one isn't better this is one reader she'll lose all the way around.
Janet wrote: "I just finished

I just finished
Ghost in the Polka Dot Bikini. Thought this one was a bit better than the first, which I really liked. Looking foward to the next book in this series.
Anne wrote: "I enjoy that series very much, do you know why it's unpopular?"Anne - As Melodie mentions above, some find it just too silly. I tend to forgive some of the silly bits because I enjoy how it evens out the scary bits. lol (Although I am really starting to dislike Gilley.)
I will agree with Melodie that the last book in the Abby Cooper series was a disappointment, but I'm hoping it was an aberration, much like A Rose from the Dead in Kate Collins flower shop mystery - a series I really like, but that book was awful - absolutely hated it.
I think the earlier Kate Collins books are good, after awhile it becomes almost formulaic in the author's approach to writing.

A ROSE FROM THE DEAD was the one in the Flowers Shop series that I didn't like, too! I'm also hoping that the last Abby Cooper was just a misstep and that she gets back on track.
Okay, now you all have me worried, as I just finished Acts of Violets (which I liked), and am starting A Rose from the Dead.
Heather - Let us know what you think. :D You never know - you might not find it as objectionable as I did. And if you did, the ones after it in the series are *much* better!
I finished
...3*s..it was a pretty good story however I had the murderer figured out before the revealing but it was still a good read none the less.
I just finished
and was somewhat disappointed. Didn't like it as much as the other two in the series I just read.
Picked up
last night and I have to say I didn't have very high expectations. The book's synopsis just didn't grab me. But I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Once I started it I did not put it down until I finished it in the wee hours. It's a ghost story! yay! I didn't really warm up to the main character, but the rest was great. I'm looking forward to the next book.
Just finished They Called It Moosicideby Lisa Hall Deckert. It was really good. The plot was really tight and there were adorable bits from the perspective of the Moose. I highly recommend it. (Full disclosure, I'm acquainted with the author online but I never recommend books I don't actually love.)

Read
yesterday. Really good. A bit heart-wrenching in places. Makes me all caught up with the Benni Harper series. I hate it when that happens. :P

There was one passage at the Memory Festival where a nurse was telling some smart-ass college girls about Vietnam that had me in tears. Books seldom do that to me. I tried reading that part to my husband and couldn't. I worked in a VA hospital my last 2 years of high school, which was at the tail end of Vietnam so I saw, first hand, the guys who came back from there. Still a "hot button" topic for me.
Kari, I love the Dead End Job series by Elaine Viets. Helen Hawthorne is a great character and her landlady is a hoot. I tried one of the books in the mystery shopper series and didn't care for it either.
I finished Threadbare and gave it 3 stars. Probably would have given it 2.5 if I could have. I liked that a lot of the story was set in the needlework shop and that two of the series characters I find somewhat annoying were onlly present in small doses. The ending was much too abrupt, I thought.
I just finished Wicked Fix by Sarah Graves, 3rd in the Home Repair is Homicide series. I enjoy reading the series and recommend it.
Melodie wrote: "Jennifer E. wrote: "Read

Finished A Rose from the Dead last night and thought it an okay read. A lot of laugh-out-loud humor in this one, IMO, but I did think the last quarter or so dragged a bit--maybe partly because I knew who the murderer was very early on and was impatient to get to the end. (view spoiler)
Already 30% through the next one!

MMurder is Binding. Very good read although there were some typos and/or few grammatical errors. Although this series originated in 2008, I just found them a few months ago.
Yesterday was stormy - a perfect day for a reading marathon, and I read
. I really enjoy this series. The characters are well drawn and interesting, and the protagonist, Alison, has witty dialogue with a tendency towards dry wit and sarcasm - both qualities I enjoy in my heroines.
I finished Knockdown
today. I think Sarah Graves has "knocked" herself right out of the cozy genre with this book. I did enjoy it but think it was mighty dark for a cozy. Not sure what category to put her in now, though.

I was wondering if this series would be good, so you recommend?
Just finished
and enjoyed it. Does anyone know if another book in this series will be coming out? I felt like a lot of loose ends were tied up in this book but there were still a few left open.

There's a novella you can download for Kindle. I loaded it on my computer, but I think it takes place before the books. I understand there will be at least one more book in this series.
