Yeah, we could do better with a lot less cousin. She is beyond annoying!

I actually don't mind her cousin. I know she's over the top, but she makes me laugh. And I actually DO know a person or 2 who is that stupid!

Nell | 1223 comments Just finished Duplicate Death by Georgette Heyer Duplicate Death a classic mystery by Georgette Heyer. It was delightful. Some of her descriptions are LOL funny and the mystery is more complex than it seems.

Ellen (elliearcher) Two Wrongs Don't Make a Write (The Cassandra Ellis Mysteries) by Cathy Wiley the second in a series by Cathy Wiley. A little disappointing-I loved the first in the series, Dead to Writes by Cathy Wiley but certainly good enough that I'll read the next one (when it comes out).

DJ =^^= (debzee) | 145 comments I just finished I Scream, You Scream (A Mystery A La Mode, #1) by Wendy Lyn Watson . Cute book.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I finished Angel Condemned (Beaufort & Company Mystery, #5) by Mary Stanton last night. This series started off frustrating, but the premise had me sticking with it - and luckily, the books just get better and better. This was a great read.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) ...and blazed through Hickory Smoked Homicide (Memphis Barbeque Mystery #3) by Riley Adams this afternoon. Not sure why I like this series enough to keep reading it, but I do! :P

message 3609: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Randall (tammommy) I read At Wicks End (A Candlemaking Mystery, #1) by Tim Myers on Saturday and Snuffed Out (A Candlemaking Mystery, #2) by Tim Myers on Sunday.
it was a quick read, even seemed a little short, but I was caught up enough by them to wan to continue reading.

I read this series quite some time ago, but thought it was pretty good!

bella (thespiceflows) I just finished Ten Big Ones by Janet Evanovich (it was okay!) and Death in the Clouds by Agatha Christie (this one was really good).

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) | 630 comments I just finished The Weed that Strings the Hangman's Bag. It is one in a series of Flavia de Luce Series by Alan Bradley. I liked two of his three books so far.

I started this series this year and read the whole set except for the last one, which I just got. Addictive. You might also like A Veiled Deception -- Annette blair's series-- I read the first one of those this year too and loved it.

This is one of my all-time favorite series, in fact it was the series that got me hooked on the whole cozy mystery genre.

message 3619: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Randall (tammommy) I read Tutu Deadly (Jenny T. Partridge, #1) by Natalie M. Roberts yesterday, and I am just not sure about it. I will defintely try to read another before i pass judgement, but I didn't like the flighty, goofball way the lead was protrayed in the first few chapters mostly, but even throughout the book.

I actually liked these books, and found several laugh out loud moments in them.

message 3621: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Randall (tammommy) I admit some of it was funny, but most women in cozy mysteries are independent and confident, and i found the way Jenny was portraied as bumbling and oblivious to life a little off putting.

That was one reason i said i would have to read another before I pass judgement, it just may be the "getting to know" you phase of meeting a new character and it may be better in the next book.

I never judge a series by one book alone.

Michelle - I'm in complete agreement with you. Except I liked this series. :) But I do remember that the first book left me unsure, so you might find the second (or third) is more enjoyable.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I flew through A Study in Sherlock by Laurie R. King yesterday. A great collection of stories, I thought. Only one or two left me thinking "meh". I'll be reading a lot of the stories again and again.

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments Finished To Catch a Leaf (A Flower Shop Mystery #12) by Kate Collins . Love this series!

Caroline | 661 comments Dru wrote: "I finished Behind the Seams by Betty Hechtman and it was an okay/good read."

Yeah, Dru. I wasn't so sure about that. Didn't like how things were going with the significant other and Adele became more and more grating.

But I did finish reading some GREAT ones! Including Three-Day Town (Deborah Knott Mysteries, #17) by Margaret Maron (love the Deborah Knott series), Death on a Platter (Josie Marcus, Mystery Shopper, #7) by Elaine Viets - I much prefer this series to the dead end jobs one. Also finished Angel Condemned (Beaufort & Company Mystery, #5) by Mary Stanton . I've enjoyed all Mary Stanton's (Claudia Bishop's) series, Beaufort anhd Company, Inn at Hemlock Falls, and the vet series too.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Just read that Claudia Bishop has a new Hemlock Falls coming out in April - Dread on Arrival. Was thrilled to hear this as I thought she'd ended the series with the last one.

Kait Carson | 182 comments Just finished Optical Delusions in Deadwood (Deadwood Mystery, #2) by Ann Charles and enjoyed it. I was surprised by some of the steamy scenes, but not offended. The humor in the book is great! Violet is one of those characters you can't help but root for from page 1 to the end. Well crafted story. Good series.

adlin | 101 comments Just finished A Killer's Christmas in Wales (Penny Brannigan Mystery #3) by Elizabeth J. Duncan . I wanted something with a Christmas theme. Liked the setting. Even though it's the third book in the series, I didn't feel lost. Not great, but an enjoyable read.

message 3634: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 38 comments I just finished reading Miss Julia Rocks The Cradle by Ann B. Ross and I loved it. Just started The Body In The Bonfire by Katherine Hall Page and I started Bones Of A Feather by Carolyn Haine.

message 3636: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 38 comments I need to add this one to my wishlist. I love her books.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Kicking off my Christmas reads, I just finished Frank, Incense, and Muriel. Aside from some truly shocking editing, possibly the worst I've ever seen, I really enjoyed the story - it was great fun and a quick read!

message 3638: by Sherry (new)

Sherry | 137 comments I just finished Sweet Revenge (Lady Arianna Regency Mystery, #1) by Andrea Penrose . I liked it, but expect that I will like the second book in the series better, since the backgrounds of the major characters have been laid, and they won't have to be reintroduced.

message 3639: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (elliearcher) Just finished Classmate Murders by Bob Moats . Despite a few awkward stylistic moments, it was great fun. I will probably read more in this series. I like the "hero": a 60 year old man living with his parents. Very charming and amusing.

message 3640: by Kim (new)

Kim (catmommie) I finished Needled to Death, and thought it was good. Now, on to something to wake up the brain cells. lol

message 3641: by Linda (new)

I've just finished A Peach of a Murder A Peach of a Murder (A Fresh-Baked Mystery, #1) by Livia J. Washburn (it had been in my TBR for a long and it was useful for November challenge), and it has been a good read. I think I'll continue with the series.

message 3645: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Cotterill (rachelcotterill) Robin wrote: "Never read any Agatha Raisin stories. Are they good?"

I tried the first one and ended up skimming it. I just found it unreadable, with characters that were more stereotypes than people. But I know some people really like them, so you should probably try for yourself :)

message 3646: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (elliearcher) I'm one of those who love Agatha Raisin. I think it depends somewhat on whether or not a person enjoys Agatha's very sandpapery personality. For me, she represents my very worst self flaunted indulgently.

message 3647: by Nell (last edited Nov 27, 2011 04:47AM) (new)

Nell | 1223 comments Death of a Village is a Hamish MacBeth mystery. MC Beaton's other series is Agatha Raisin. She was a featured author this summer so you will find a list of her books and comments under that thread.
If you're tired of saccharine doormat protagonists, Agatha is the character for you. She says things you might want to and gets into hilarious situations. Agatha is a mix of brash behavior and assertiveness with insecurities about aging and romance. Her fixation with her neighbor is over the top and sometimes annoys me. He's so not worth the effort.
She is/was a brilliant advertising executive with lousy interpersonal skills. I'm a fan. Read at least a couple of her mysteries before you make up your mind.

message 3648: by Linda (new)

Linda Klinedinst (linda_klinedinst) | 113 comments I love M.C. Beaton's Novels...they are really good especially the Agatha Raisin Series. I would love to have them all in my own Library.

Caroline | 661 comments Finished Under the Skin (An Elizabeth Goodweather Appalachian Mystery #6) by Vicki Lane and really loved it! It was fun to find I had been mentioned (not by name but I knew it was me). I love the Elizabeth Goodweather books. To me, they are like full course meals while a lot of the cozies I read are "snacks" or "dessert." Highly recommend this series!

message 3650: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments Finished Death on a Platter (Josie Marcus, Mystery Shopper, #7) by Elaine Viets . Think it's the best of the series.
