That was kinda what I thought, too. I really like this series, but this one wasn't as good as the others!

4 new series that I've read lately are Ella Barrick's Ballroom series, Kylie Logan's Button Shop series, Jacklyn Brady's Piece of Cake series and Melissa Bourbon's Magical Dressmaking series. All were first rate!
Quickstep to Murder (A Ballroom Dance Mystery #1) by Ella Barrick , Button Holed (Button Box Mystery #1) by Kylie Logan , A Sheetcake Named Desire (A Piece of Cake Mystery, #1) by Jacklyn Brady , Pleating for Mercy (A Magical Dressmaking Mystery, #1) by Misa Ramirez / Melissa Bourbon

Caren, I agree...I think it was my least favorite...so far ;) I'm getting ready to read The Chocolate Pirate Plot. Hope it's better, or I may give up on this series.

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments I finished Dead Head (Dirty Business, #3) by Rosemary Harris . Didn't care much for the first in this series a couple of years ago and liked this one even less. Won't read more.

message 3467: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments Just finished Killer Sweet Tooth A Daphne Martin Cake Mystery by Gayle Trent and I enjoyed it a lot.

Two books I couldn't finish - Liver Let Die (A Clueless Cook Mystery #1) by Liz Lipperman and Shoe Done It (An Accessories Mystery) by Grace Carroll . The former was about a lady who wanted to be a sports writer and ended up working as a food critic. She couldn't stand red meat and she put some pate de foie gras in her purse. Sheesh! First, I hate someone preaching about good eating habits and second, anyone stupid enough to put foie gras in a purse is not someone I want to read about. The latter book was too "fashiony" for me. I mean, sheesh, the woman spent about a page and a half describing each of five or six different outfits she was trying to decide on everytime she got dressed or changed clothes. I don't know a Manolo Blahnik shoe from a Hush Puppy and I don't really care so all the descriptions of this designer's outfit or that designer's outfit meant nothing to me. I feel badly because I always like to support new authors but I'm too old to read books I don't enjoy. At least I supported the author enough to buy the books even though I didn't enjoy them.

Caren: Earlene Fowler was our featured author for last month. Skim down the homepage of our group for the "featured authors" section for a complete listing of her books, and to read what others think of them. I really liked the first book in the Bennie Harper series, Fool's Puzzle, and recently picked up book two, but haven't got round to reading it yet.

This month's featured author, Leann Sweeney, also has a series with a quilter in them (The Cats in Trouble series).

Have all 3 of these, Caroline, and am currently reading LIVER LET DIE. So far I like it. I'm thinking I'm going to be hugely disappointed with SHOE DONE IT. I don't like Annette Blair's series because of all the "fashion" stuff and I think this one will be much worse along that line. Looking forward to the Gayle Trent book!

Toni | 32 comments I just finished The Diva Haunts the House (A Domestic Diva Mystery, #5) by Krista Davis .I liked this book but I has some issues because I this was the first one I read in the series and there are SO many different characters. I had to keep reminding myself who was who....Karl, Leon, Ray, Frank,Patrick Mars, Natasha, Jen,Vegas,Blake, Heather etc etc...So it was kinds of confusing to read. This might just be my fault because I did not read the other 4 in the series first. But I wanted to read this one since it is nearing Halloween. I will read Diva Runs Out of Thyme (1st in the series) next. This is a good cozy author though and I enjoyed the fun tips. Cannot wait to read the Christmas one for the tips!

Melodie - I think I enjoyed Dove in the Window about the best so far too. I've been lucky enough that the series has been trickling in via BookMooch. And I'm really enjoying reading them in order (I know, life's short, but I'm loving the character development. :-) ) The next, Mariners Compass is on it's way, but it might take awhile. It's going to drive me bonkers waiting for it! lol

I read Shoe Done It and while I don't mind a bit of fashion speak (I love the Annette Blair series, for example) I found the constant discussion about putting outfits together off-putting, like the author was trying to sell me. It also makes the main character feel shallow. I'm not against reading the next one to see if perhaps the rhetoric dies down and it becomes more balanced, but I'm not going to rush out to buy it.

message 3479: by Linda (new)

Linda Last night I finished reading Quickstep to Murder (A Ballroom Dance Mystery #1) by Ella Barrick , and loved it. To my delight, the identity of the killer was a complete surprise, but the seeds had been planted along the way. My love for Dancing with the Stars--and for cozy mysteries, of course--prompted me to buy this book, and I'm sure glad I did. This is another series that I will absolutely follow.

Melissa (lissieb7) | 80 comments I just finished Ghouls Just Want to Have Fun. I am a little on the fence with this one. I enjoyed some of the characters and found parts of it quite funny. However, I figured out whodunit really early on and that just made the book seem long. Not sure if I'll read any more in this series.
