Kelley (booknerd69) I'm also reading Red Delicious and I am not loving it that much either. The first one was so good and I wanted to love this series, but I don't think that is going to happen. I will stick with the 3rd for a bit longer, but then it goes in the discard pile if things don't pick up soon.

This makes the book even more interesting to me, besides having met the author at a local scrapbook store. Great read!"

Joanna is a fellow Midnight Ink author, and I had the pleasure of sharing a panel with her at last year's Bouchercon. She is a generous, giving soul and boy, does she know her scrapbooking! I highly recommend her series for anyone who's into scrapbooking or cozy mysteries.

I didn't know the CSI series had more books. I'm not interested in CSI: NY or CSI: Miami. Max Allan Collins wrote most of them. Have to go back and check the series list again.

I don't read the NY or Miami ones either. I think I mentioned somewhere that the Max Allan Collins books are all pretty good. After that it's hit or miss.

I think there are 8 Max Allan Collins CSI books. I've read 6 from the library, own 1 to read, and have to look for the last one. I didn't know anyone else wrote any. Was wondering if they were any good. Thanks.

message 310: by Denise (new)

Denise | 618 comments I just finished Apple Turnover Murder and I guess I'm going to go against popular opinion and say I liked the book. I feel that we got some insight into why Hannah has a problem making a commitment to either Norman or Mike. I feel that Joanne Fluke actually did pay attention to reader's feelings about the triangle and gave us some underlying reasons for Hannah's "waffling" between the two men. Also (SPOILER ALERT HERE) with Norman bringing in a female partner that he obviously has some history with there will definitely be some interesting twists to the future story. I am really looking forward to the next book and seeing how Fluke develops this story.

message 311: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (dolphinlover) | 290 comments I have just read Joanne Flukes Apple Turnover Murder. I really did enjoy this one. I see that many do not share this opinion though lol. The book was fluffy enough and the ending did bring something to look forward to in the next book. I did figure out who the killer was before the ending but that is usually what I do a lot of times. I look forward to the next installment.

message 312: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments I felt like Fluke just phoned APPLE TURNOVER MURDER in. I mean when you know who the killer is and why before a murder even takes place that's just lazy to me. I know the one that's coming this fall won't have any answers in it since her part is just one of 3 short stories. I really think that Norman & Mike both should tell Hannah never mind and take up with women who know how to deal with a man, because it seems more & more to me that Hannah doesn't. I think she has some serious hangups since her deal with Brad.

Yes I can see some of your points here. I too am sure that her book coming out in fall will not have answers. Though the story line has been drawn out pretty thin I have not yet become completely frustrated with this series. I am ready to see what this new character brings to the table.

To some point the indecisiveness is realistic. But when she puts all 3 at the same event, with Norman on one side of Hannah and Mike on the other....I draw the line. I have yet to meet the 2 men who would put up with something like that(and I don't think I'd want to)! Especially one like Mike. And the 2 men being "friends"? Again, I don't thinks so! Not if they were truly both serious about wanting to marry her.

Suzanne | 188 comments A Tisket, A Tasket, A Fancy Stolen Casket (Callie Parrish Mystery, Book 1) by Fran Rizer

I just polished this off over the weekend. I very much enjoyed most of the characters - I liked the sleuth Callie Parrish, the funeral home directors Otis and Odell, Daddy and The Boys, and Big Boy. The jury's still out on Jane - not sure why she's not resonating with me.

Nice plotting, fast easy pace, good "filler," good clues (I couldn't figure out who done it until well into the book).

I did find the kindergarten cussing slightly annoying. Dalmation and Hot Spot were funny, but Donkey and Poopy Face were a bit too much.

I'll definitely read more in this series.

I never really liked this series much because of Ophelia. I liked Abby, but Ophelia was very easy to dislike. I was so surprised by how good this one was!

It seemed the story was trying to be just a bit too "high brow" in places, which got on my nerves. I know some people don't care for this series particularly because of that reason. I normally don't pay too much attention to that, but this one just irked me.

I've read both of the Cackleberry Club books and really enjoyed both. They are quite different from the Teashop books. I haven't read any of the Scrapbooking books because that's a subject that just doesn't interest me.

Kelley (booknerd69) Just finished reading A Stitch in Crime and it was okay. I am not sure I will read anymore in this series. It just seemed as if it went on way too long. There are so many other series I enjoy, I really don't want to spend time on a series I only think is so-so.

Just a few minutes ago, I finished "Death by Darjeeling", the first book of the Tea Shop Mysteries by Laura Childs. I love, love, love to drink tea, so this is the perfect cozy series for me! I'm going to be writing my review soon and posting it on my blog tomorrow, probably.

message 340: by Victoria (new)

Victoria (closer2coma86) I just finished listening to Real Murders by Charlaine Harris (not exactly cozy, though). I read the physical book a couple of years ago and did not like it at all. Much better on audio. I loved the readers voice on the audio. I now have a feel for Aurora's "voice" if that makes any sense. I'm going to get the next in the series A Bone to Pick from the library.

I love, love, love to drink tea, so this is the perfect cozy series..."Emidy, me too (ok, last night I finished Death by Darjeeling), will check your blog to see what you thought. I love tea, too, or rather a little tea with my sugar. Oh, and we don't usually have the cute little tea pots and cups, but big sweaty (condensation, not perspiration) glasses full of ice. How about ya'll?

I quit drinking coffee about 10 years ago at the same time I quit smoking (I had the worst flu I had ever had and I was coughing so hard I couldn't smoke because when I did I just coughed harder and I had such a headache that I felt like my head was going to fall off so I said I would wait until I quit coughing to have another cigarette after three days without smoking I was still coughing so I just decided to give it up. In addition the smell of coffee made me sick to my stomach so I quit drinking that while I was sick and the same thing as with the cigarettes I had such a bad headache that the caffeine withdrawl was masked. I just figured it out that at the prices of cigarettes then I was spending about $100 a month so I have saved over $12,000 by quitting--actually probably more like $18,000 with the prices of cigarettes escalating like they have in the last decade.) Anyway, the point of all that is that when I quit drinking coffee (which I drank black) I started drinking hot tea (Lipton) without sugar. I also like iced tea but don't drink it much. I like it without sugar and my S.O. likes it with sugar and that takes up too much room in the fridge to make both and I don't think that sugar dissolves well in cold tea. I also like some herb teas (Sleepytime is one of my favorites). Also I like to make sun tea in the summer. I mix Lipton with various herb teas so my sun tea never tastes the same twice! (The funny thing about coffee is that I like coffee flavor and like coffee ice cream, coffee flavored candy, and I love Dairy Queen's moolattes but I still don't like hot coffee. Isn't that odd???)
