Just finished Crunch Time by Diane Mott Davidson, and sadly, that means I'm all caught up with the series! I'm going to miss Goldy and her clan until the next book comes out, but luckily, there are many other series' that I'm currently working on.
Just finished
. Okay I get that this is a cozy read but a mother losing a son (on the back cover so not a spoiler) is very sad to me and you could not really even tell the mother was that upset in the writing. She did not really cry or freak out or anything. It was VERY unrealistic.. I wish the mother was not even in the story. It bugged me through the whole book. I did like the New Orleans setting as I spent 10 years living in Lousiana and I love New Orleans. I also love the bakery setting and the story was good (minus the mom part). I do want to read the next one.
I just finished
and loved it.I had low expectations because the reviews for the book weren't so great but I loved it. I'm not entirely sure what it was about the main characters of Alison and Crawford but I found them to be so likeable and the overall book was a great read.

With that said, I can't imagine that any cozy lover wouldn't enjoy The Diva Haunts even if they hadn't read any other books in the series. Krista Davis's style is warm and welcoming, and she's a pro at drawing you into her fictional world.

Finished The Cat, the Professor and the Poison by Leann Sweeney and have started book three, The Cat, the Lady and the Liar. This is a cute series.
Read
Dark Road to Darjeeling by Deanna Raybourn. Really good mystery. I hadn't read this series in a couple of years and had forgotten how much I enjoy her writing. This one was set in a remote area of India during English occupation.
can someone help me out please?
i am having a hard time reading cozies because the print is soooo small. Couldn't read The Diva Haunts the House by Krista Davis because of the teeny tiny print.
Can you recommend others that the print is larger than this one?
How about the print in Amanda Lee's books?

Have you tried getting large print copies from your library? Do you own an e reader? You can make the font bigger- that's one feature of the Nook I really like.

Boy, that's a tough one since my idea of what's tiny print & your idea might be pretty far apart. Your best bet is to try for large print books at the library. As Kaye suggested, if you have an e-reader you can enlarge the print.
I just finished the Fudge Cupcake Murder. I'm gradually reading through the Hannah Swensen mysteries in order (this is #5) for a bit of light relief between heavier books - they're quite predictable but cute and fun. I used to bake for a living so I can identify with Hannah's day job - though she definitely seems to spend more time sleuthing than baking :)

Other than the Large print book and font size on e-readers, you can use a magnifier. I've seen thin plastic ones that are page size. Your local bookstore or drugstore may carry them.
i went to barnes and noble today and purchased the three Amanda Lee's embroidery cozies. I looked at others and the prints were small for me. I also purchased D Rosen's cozy about a jewish deli....print much better on these books. i looked through a lot of cozies and the prints are really small for me, not not be for some, but for me they are. even though i do wear 1.50 reading glasses. sorry i bothered you as i guess for some the print is okay
Peg wrote: "i went to barnes and noble today and purchased the three Amanda Lee's embroidery cozies. I looked at others and the prints were small for me. Peg: Some of the cozies do come in large print, but you might have to check the "large print" section of B&N to see if any are in stock. You can also ask them to special order specific large-print titles. The cozy mystery website Stop You're Killing Me has a listing of new large-print titles each month.
Most of my library LP books are cozies. I also suggest the new cheap Kindle because it is great for changing font size. I just downloaded my first library book cozy
through Overdrive onto my kindle. I am all about free books.

Sandra wrote: "Just discovered the Aunt Dimity by Nancy Atherton book series. A great cozy read."If you continue reading them, could you post what book the lemon cake recipe is in? I meant to copy it down when I read the book years ago and didn't. Now I can't remember which book it's in and lemons are almost ripe here.
Shay: Do you want the recipe for lemon cake (book 11) or lemon bars (book 4)? Or both? Let me know and I can help you out!

This is a common problem among us. It is the best reason for e-readers. I know some days the pressure in my eyes doesn't allow for reading at all. I have Audible for those days. Sometimes a later version enlarges the print so you might check to see if a later printing was enlarged.
Heather L wrote: "Shay: Do you want the recipe for lemon cake (book 11) or lemon bars (book 4)? Or both? Let me know and I can help you out!"The lemon cake. Thanks. Have you made either of them? Did they come out okay?
Aunt Dimity series had recipes in them? I need to go back and read these books...i dont remember recipes lolI am still reading Turkey Day Murder by Leslie Meier....reading her series out of order because I am trying to go by holidays-already finished reading the halloween books. Will try to wait closer to Dec to start the Christmas theme books by Leslie Meier :)
Deb: There is one recipe at the back of every Aunt Dimity. ;)
For the last couple years I have read as many Christmas-themed books as I can from Thanksgiving to New Year's. There are tons of them (not all mysteries) on my TBR shelf. Seems like every time I knock several off the shelf, I find more I didn't know I had.
Shay: Have not made either recipe, but will gladly copy out the one you want. You can be our guinea pig. :D
In keeping with the topic, I finished the last of the "Cats in Trouble" series by Leann Sweeney. Really liked these, and look forward to book four out next spring.

Sir Percy's Favorite Sticky Lemon Cake
from Aunt Dimity and the Deep Blue Sea by Nancy Atherton
Lemon syrup
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
Combine the sugar and lemon juice in a small bowl. Whisk until the sugar dissolves. Set aside.
Lemon Cake
3/4 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 cup sugar
1-1/2 teaspoons grated lemon peel
2 large eggs
1-1/4 cups self-rising flour
optional toppings: whipped cream, clotted cream, lemon curd, or confectioner's sugar
Preheat oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit.
Butter an 8-inch square metal baking pan.
Use an electric mixer to cream the butter in a large mixing bowl until smooth. Add the sugar and lemon peel and beat until fluffy. Beat in one egg, then half the flour; repeat. Pour the batter into the buttered baking pan.
Bake about 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the cake's center comes out clean. Place the pan on a cooling rack. Use a toothpick to poke holes all over the top of the cake. Spoon the lemon syrup slowly over the cake, allowing it to soak in. Cool the cake completely.
Sprinkle with confectioner's sugar or cut into squares and serve with whipped cream, clotted cream, or lemon curd.

Heather L wrote: "You're welcome! Let us know how it turns out! :)"I live in Las Vegas, so our fruits ripen really late. Too hot and this year has been hot much later into October than normal. So, probably at least another month. Then, we still have to "prep" the trees- water heavily, then not water for a few days. (First fattens, then takes the excess water out.)

sounds so yummy!
Shay: Sure, you still have summer, while we're already shivering up here (Great Lakes region). We're getting our first hard frost of the season this week. Good news for we allergy sufferers, but it only means the snow is that much closer.

Hi Donna. Are you the one borrowing all of MY paperback cozies at the library?
