Kait Carson | 182 comments Just finished Fundraising the Dead Fundraising the Dead (Museum Mystery, #1) by Sheila Connolly I spent a lot of years working in not-for-profit and so much of this rang true.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Just finished Footsteps in the Dark by Georgette Heyer and loved it! Really great (British) humour and a "ghost story" to boot!

Sherry | 137 comments Last night I finished On What Grounds (Coffeehouse Mystery, #1) by Cleo Coyle . I had heard so many great reviews of it, I think I must be the last person in the civilized world to read it, and I love coffee, so I expected to really like it. Welllll, not so much. Too many details about coffee (often repeated, in some cases many times,) and a totally improbable situation with the ex-husband. And I would say something about the solution to the mystery, except it would be a "spoiler." I have the next one in this series in my TBR pile, but I'm not in any hurry to get to it.

Sherry, I really tried to like this series, but gave up after reading the first two or three...can't even remember ;)

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Finished Mind Over Murder (A Raven's Nest #1) by Allison Kingsley last night. I think the author tried a bit too hard, so there were some things that got on my nerves. I really liked the ending though - it 'fit' the murderer. I liked the book overall and will read the next one.

I don't care for this series at all, Sherry. Totally agree about the situation with the ex-husband. One of the things that turned me off to the books. I think I read the first two and then decided not to waste my time anymore!

Susie Fevella (susieinks) | 821 comments Just frinished The Real Macaw (Meg Langslow, #13) by Donna Andrews . It was just OK. I guess I'm just getting a little tired of everyone and every animal hanging around Meg's house. It was just sort of a strange story.

I have read three of the books and I would recommend them all! My favorite was the first, called "The Diva Runs Out of Thyme." I just finished it and it was excellent!! Definitely check this series out!

I just finished this book too! I won it on first reads. I also loved it. This is the first book I have read by Krist Davis but will definately be on the look out for more of her work.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Just finished The Diva Haunts the House (A Domestic Diva Mystery, #5) by Krista Davis . This was a great book - lots of fun! I only wish I had waited to read it closer to Halloween as it totally got me in the mood for the holiday. I'm not a fan of Natasha, as she seems just TSTL, but the author has done a good job, I think, of making her so ridiculous as to be entertaining. Looking forward to this series continuing.

Kouk | 49 comments Thanks, Kate & Melodie!

I will get ''The diva runs out of Thyme''!
And look forward to read it!

Nell | 1223 comments I just finished Royal Flush Royal Flush (Her Royal Spyness Mysteries, #3) by Rhys Bowen by Rhys Bowen. I love this series with poor Georgiana, 34th in line to the throne. It was a good mystery and an entertaining read. I like this series better than her Molly Murphy one. I haven't read any of her Evan Evans series, but I may read Evans Above (Constable Evans Mysteries #1) by Rhys Bowen Evans Above for the rocks theme in our Sept challenge.

I'm with you, Susie. I'm getting a little tired of Meg not putting her foot down with family interference/intrusion in her life - especially since she has to deal with babies now. I'd kick those animals right out! I kinda stalled out in the middle of this one and haven't finished it yet. I DID read/finish The Diva Haunts the House (A Domestic Diva Mystery, #5) by Krista Davis I loved this book and really enjoy the series. Also finished Sleight of Paw (Magical Cats, #2) by Sofie Kelly I'm enjoying the Magical Cats series. And then I read Mind Over Murder (A Raven's Nest Mystery #1) by Allison Kingsley which was okay but I was a little disappointed - thought it could have been stronger with the psychic stuff and the cousins' relationship. Today (in one day) I read Thread Reckoning (An Embroidery Mystery, #3) by Amanda Lee and really liked that one. I'm enjoying this series. And then I've now started Button Holed (Button Box Mystery #1) by Kylie Logan So far, it's good.

message 3221: by Leslie (new)

Leslie I finished Spanish Dagger (China Bayles, #15) by Susan Wittig Albert this afternoon while at the dentist(Yuck). It was another good China B. story. Luckily I received the next in the series from PBS today. I also received an amazon order that includes 3 of the books Caroline mentioned above-- Thread Reckoning (An Embroidery Mystery, #3) by Amanda Lee Button Holed (Button Box Mystery #1) by Kylie Logan The Diva Haunts the House (A Domestic Diva Mystery, #5) by Krista Davis and one more that I read recently that someone on here didn't like at all-- Death in a Difficult Position (Mantra for Murder, #4) by Diana Killian . Except for the dentist part it's a good day:)

message 3222: by Kelley (new)

Kelley (booknerd69) Just finished reading Blast from the Past by Toni L. P. Kelner and it was the best in this series. Unfortunately I heard from the author this afternoon and she told me the series has ended due to low sales. I really hate this series is over because I believe it was hitting its' stride with this 3rd book. I hope others discover this series and give it a chance, maybe the publisher will change its' mind.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I just finished Death in a Difficult Position (Mantra for Murder, #4) by Diana Killian and I liked it - more than the others in the series in fact. But I'm interested in yoga, so that helps. :) I've always been strongly turned off by both the characters mother and her business partner, Lily, and both were subdued in this book. I look forward to the next one.

Also finished up The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie on Audio this morning on the way to work. Great story, but I guessed the murderer about 2/3rds of the way through and was astonished to find I was right. Really really clever ending.

Kathy, I did enjoy Working Stiff by Annelise Ryan. Is this the book you are referring to? I see there are a few books with that title.

Thank you Leslie The only thing I did not like is all the sisters names starting with a "M".

message 3231: by Sherry (new)

Sherry | 137 comments Finished Naughty in Nice (Her Royal Spyness Mysteries, #5) by Rhys Bowen this afternoon, and enjoyed it a lot. This whole series is just totally fun: most of the situations are totally unrealistic; and many of the characters are totally improbable, but very likable. There's always something happening, and it's usually not what you were expecting, either.

message 3235: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments Have to get that one from Amazon, Dru. Just finished The Dog Who Knew Too Much A Chet and Bernie Mystery by Spencer Quinn which may not be a real cozy (since Bernie is a private investigator) but I love reading the story from Chet's (the dog's) point of view. This was another good one in the series. Also read Quickstep to Murder and enjoyed that. I had a special interest because of my parents (they met at Arthur Murray's dance lessons).

I enjoy all her books but I think the Her Royal Spyness and the Molly Murphy's are my favorite of her series. I've read a few of the Evans and will read more. Right now I reserved the last two of the Georgiana books and the latest of my Molly Murphys. Just waiting for the library to notify me.

message 3240: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (echarton) | 8 comments My husband is the one who started me reading Cleo Coyle's books. He likes to read books set in NYC, which is where he is from and where his family still lives..

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Finished up two today: Sleight of Paw A Magical Cats Mystery by Sofie Kelly which I thought was great and Thread Reckoning (An Embroidery Mystery, #3) by Amanda Lee , which I also enjoyed a great deal.

I read this book within the past week or so and enjoyed it too. Although, I must say, the cover art was kind of a turn offfor me. Very plain, blah and rather dreary...glad I hadn't seen the cover before ordering it from Amazon Marketplace...maybe I did and just didn't take notice of it, that's more likely I suppose.

Rosemary | 78 comments Murder Uncorked Murder Uncorked (A Wine Lover's Mystery, #1) by Michele Scott It was fine.

message 3246: by Sherry (new)

Sherry | 137 comments I finished Pretty Poison (A Peggy Lee Garden Mystery, #1) by Joyce Lavene and Fruit of the Poisoned Tree (Peggy Lee Garden Mystery, #2) by Joyce Lavene and really liked both. Likable characters and good plots with some surprising twists and turns.

I also began Wicked Weaves (A Renaissance Faire Mystery, #1) by Joyce Lavene . I like the Renaissance Fair theme, but this book had too many weird characters, some of them playing other weird characters in their jobs at the Renaissance Fair, that it made the story hard to follow. I did not finish this book; though I might get back to it later, there are so many other books I want to read, that I doubt it.

message 3247: by Toni (new)

Toni (cherrycherry) | 57 comments Just finished Evil Eclairs (Donut Shop Mystery, #4) by Jessica Beck and as with the other books in this series, I quite enjoyed it.

By any chance, does anyone know the real name of the author of this series? I can't seem to find out who the "Jessica Beck" pseudonym belongs to. I don't know much about Carolyn Hart but she's been mentioned in the books a few times.

message 3248: by Linda (new)
