What Cozy Did You Just Finish Reading??? (Archive)
Just finished
. Not sure what to think of it. Didn't dislike it exactly, it's just a different type of plot. I'm hoping the series will continue to improve like her apple orchard series did.
Dru and Melodie - I guess I'll have to order those online since I can't find either one in any of the local bookstores. I'm especially interested in reading
since my parents actually met at Arthur Murray dance lessons!
I just finished Lye in Wait by Cricket McRae. It was a decent read. Saw it for free on my Nook. It wasn't terribly exciting, but I'll probably check out another in the series, if there is one.

Really enjoyed Miranda James' new "Murder Past Due" which is the first in what I hope will be a long series. I love her sleuth Charlie the librarian and his coon cat Diesel. This is a traditional type of cozy with lots of local characters (suspects), clues, and puzzle solving. If you love books about books--and cats, this one is perfect.
I read quite a diverse set of books in August and enjoyed them all. The first two below I would call cozy mysteries. On the Wrong Track
Quick Service (a hoot and a half!)
An Elevated View: Colorado Writers on Writing (an excellent essay anthology)
Carte Blanche
Heaven's Keep
...and I'm currently reading
The Roald Dahl Omnibus: Perfect Bedtime Stories for Sleepless Nights, an excellent collection of faintly creepy short stories.
Just finished
. It was pretty good (another of Tim Meyers' pseudonyms) with a husband and wife team that are fun and loveable. Easy read, entertaining and a few puzzles thrown in at the end for good measure.
I finished
last night. I liked the characters, the plot and the writing but I was totally overwhelmed by the "craft" part of it. I'm not at all crafty and all those descriptions of their clothes and homes made me cringe for some reason. I can't imagine living with all that:) I'll be reading the next one though.

by Allison Kingsley and this was very enjoyable."I'm looking forward to this one!
Over the past couple of weeks, I've read:
All three were enjoyable. I think A Sheetcake Named Desire was my favorite, though I loved the paranormal elements in the other two books.
Book of Secrets wrote: "Over the past couple of weeks, I've read:

I read all 3 of these last month, and though all were good, I think I liked A SHEETCAKE NAMED DESIRE the best, too.

Finished reading
yesterday. This book had a very different plot, centred around deciphering a found embroidered sampler. It was interesting, although way too much internal dialogue for me - I found myself skimming more than a couple of times. But the characters have become increasingly more likeable with each book and I'll definitely read the next in the series. Also finished
today. I didn't think I'd much care for this book, but I zipped right through it. The plot was interesting enough to offset my ambivalence for most of the characters and their relationships.
Book of Secrets wrote: "Over the past couple of weeks, I've read:

I liked Sheetcake better than Tempest too.
Robin wrote: "

Just finished Restored to Death. Older book I found by accident and I enjoyed it. TBR pile too big to decide what to read next!
Nancy wrote: "Just finished
and thoroughly enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next book in this new series."Nancy, I liked that one a lot, too. Have you read Shirley Tallman's series about Sarah Woolson? It's also set in San Francisco in the Victorian era, and is also very good.

I enjoyed this book, hilarious and sombre at times. She wasn't paired up much with her goodfriend Marla as she was in her other books.. A good read.
I finished these two in the past weeks:Murder by Mocha
If you've been enjoying this series, you'll want to pick this up. The regular characters shine brightly and the story draws you into it without you even realizing it. Also included yet another aspect of the New York food world. Fun, suspenseful, and heart-warming.
The Sauvignon Secret
Great character development, several surprising twists, and a wholly satisfying ending. Lovers of this series will not want to miss this one.
I finished
and have come to the conclusions that I need to stop buying books just because I can't resist the pretty covers! I read the 3rd book in this series a month or 2 ago and didn't like it and didn't like this one any better.

Janet, Who is the author of Murder by Mocha? Sounds like a fun book.
Thought the sound of the title sounded familiar. Thanks Kari. I have one of her novels, haven't gotten into it yet.
I finished
tonight. Some series with so many books in them seem to get boring or stall with character development but with each book I read of this series I feel like I live there and am just watching their lives unfold.

Thanks Robin, Good to know, this is going on my tbr!

Sherry, no I have not read those but will definitely check them out.
I finished
for some challenges and, although it improved till the end, I didn't like it the best. I don't know if I'm going to keep on the series.

Melodie - I tend to agree with you. I just (didn't) finish
and really couldn't get into it. I'm not into yoga, don't like being told about "healthy" eating, didn't like the fact that she got pushed into a camping trip she didn't want to take and her mother gets on my nerves. I did finish
which was an easy read and pretty good. Maybe I'll even try some of the donut recipes! LOL Now on to
. And, Dru - I finally ordered a bunch of those books from Amazon and they've shipped so maybe I'll get them today (Button Holed, Quick Step to Murder, Sleight of Paw, Mind Over Murder, Diva Haunts the House, and Thread Reckoning). I know I enjoy crafts more than yoga!
Finished
Sweet Revenge and I was very surprised at the level of plot and character development. Excellent read - and the multiple chocolate recipes (some exotic ones) made me want to try them all.
Hmm.. I finished
today and it's just a tiny bit to the right of what I'd call a cozy. I loved the paranormal story - spooky. The murder mystery was just a little too dark for my enjoyment. But I liked the characters (except the boyfriend). Not sure if I'll read more in this series or not.
I just finished The Last Billable Hour: A Novel
by Susan Wolfe - my procrastination read for this month's challenge. It was an excellent mystery with an insider's view of the elegant facade many law firms put on what is really a sweat shop.
Jennifer E. wrote: "Hmm.. I finished

I just finished
and in the beginning I didn't think I was going to like it at all, but ended up liking it a lot. At first, the protagonist seemed very cold, but she warmed up satisfactorily as the book progressed, and ended by being a very likable character.
Just finished
. I thought the first two books in the series were a little better. I still have 5 more on the TBR pile, so I will have to read the next one ;)

I also recently read Hitchedand Laced. I enjoyed them somewhat. This is a new author and series for me. I jumped in right in the middle which I hardly ever do. Are the earlier books better?
