Linda I love this series! I think I've read all but the most recent one ~

Erin L (wellreadmoose) | 505 comments Finished Stirring Up Strife (Hope Street Church Mystery, #1) by Jennifer Stanley earlier in the week. It was pretty good, although it did drag for a bit in the middle. I really liked Cooper, Nathan and the rest of the Hope Street Church group.

That's a new one to me, but I may have to put it on my list and look for it.

message 3104: by Moira (new)

Moira I've read the first two and really enjoyed them ! this reminds me to get the third

Kaye (momgee) | 862 comments Started and finished Thread Reckoning (An Embroidery Mystery, #3) by Amanda Lee yesterday and thought it was good. I like this series.

I loved that whole series, Susie. Sorry there are no more.

Dru - I loved Murder by Mocha too.

Not a cozy but I just finished Hell Is Empty (Walt Longmire, #7) by Craig Johnson . Very intense and gripping story (almost Jack London-esque).

That does sound hilarious by just the title.

message 3109: by Karen (new)

Karen I just finished Blind Fear (Cold Case Thriller, #2) by Lynn Abercrombie I got this author Lynn Abercrombieform cozy.com. I loved the books and characters. I gave the book 4 stars. this is my review:I would have given this a 5 except for swear words. I thought cozies were not supposed to have that?(As stated before this author was recommended as one on cozy.com) Was really hard to stop reading book. Loved the characters. Loved their stamina and grit. Great twist of a story

message 3110: by Karen (new)

Karen I also finished: The Price of Murder (Sir John Fielding, Book 10) by Bruce Alexander a few days ago. I had forgotten about it!
Finally a cozy (that really was) I got off of one of the cozy sites. The book really reminded me of Dick Francis, but not quite as good.

Oh, really? :( I haven't read it yet but loved all the previous books so I was hoping for another great one.. Would you mind telling me/us why you felt the way you said?

message 3112: by Roxann (new)

Roxann | 28 comments I just finished reading an older book, Grab Bag Grab Bag by Charlotte MacLeod . It's a book of short stories. I gave it three stars. I was hoping it would have been better.

message 3113: by [deleted user] (new)

Just finished The Alpine Journey (Emma Lord Mystery, #10) by Mary Daheim by Mary Daheim which was okay but not quite up there with the rest of the series - felt forced. I do like the protagonist, Emma Lord, but am not fond of her sidekick Vida, who has a big role in this story.

message 3114: by Karen M (new)

Karen M | 1436 comments Just finished Deep Sleep. Have to say Frances Fyfield did a great job on this one!

message 3115: by alicia (new)

alicia grant (shesha556) I finished A Glimpse of Evil (Psychic Eye Mystery, #8) by Victoria Laurie and enjoyed it. Hopefully the next one will be good too.

message 3116: by Leslie (new)

Leslie I just finished To Sketch a Thief (A Portrait of Crime Mystery, #2) by Sharon Pape . I liked this one better than the first. I don't care for ghosts in a book..but I'm used to this one now..like Jitty in the Carolyn Haines series:) The addition of Hobo seemed to make the main character more likeable to me. Plus now I want to know what happened to the Marshall!

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Went on a bit of a spree and finished up:
Bones of a Feather (Sarah Booth Delaney, #11) by Carolyn Haines which was good, but I like when the mysteries take place in Zinnia better; Tempest in the Tea Leaves (Fortune Teller Mystery, #1) by Kari Lee Townsend - also good; and Pleating for Mercy (A Magical Dressmaking Mystery, #1) by Misa Ramirez / Melissa Bourbon which I really enjoyed - a great first book!

I really liked PLEATING FOR MERCY, too. And also liked TEMPEST IN THE TEA LEAVES.

A Good Yarn by Debbie Macomber

I loved the characters. Good "yarn".

Christy Brannen (murdermostbritish) | 100 comments I finished Buzz Off on Thursday (or was it Weds.?) and started A Crafty Killing last night.

I enjoyed Buzz Off in spite of too many nasty characters, and am enjoying this current book more than I thought I would.

message 3123: by Marge (new)

Marge (glasspizazz) Finished The Real Macaw, I enjoy this series and this entry was the best of the last few. Interesting sub plot concerning current economic problems, this is left open for the next book.

And Margaret Grace (Camille Minichino) makes such beautiful miniature scenes that she enters into the silent auctions for charity at mystery cons. I count myself lucky that I have one--a very rare outdoorsy scene (the only one she's done, I think).

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Finished Working Stiff (Mattie Winston, #1) by Annelise Ryan today. Bought it based on recommendations from the group. Not a bad mystery at all. Interesting humour/drama combo and the characters were likeable. Will definitely read the next one.

I'm reading this one right now and finding it enjoyable as far as I've gotten. Finished Calamity Jayne Rides Again by Kathleen Bacus and liked it.

message 3127: by Zoe (new)

Zoe (bookwormfromathens) | 712 comments I recently finished Deadly Daggers (Renaissance Faire Mystery) by Joyce Lavene , Tempest in the Tea Leaves (Fortune Teller Mystery, #1) by Kari Lee Townsend , A Sheetcake Named Desire (A Piece of Cake Mystery, #1) by Jacklyn Brady and Royal Flush (Her Royal Spyness Mysteries, #3) by Rhys Bowen .I enjoyed all of them and I'll read the next books in all the above series.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Also based on recommendations from the group, I finished Ghost a la Mode (Ghost of Granny Apples Mystery #1) by Sue Ann Jaffarian tonight. Great book! Have just ordered the second book, Ghost in the polka dot bikini and can't wait to get it!

message 3129: by Leslie (new)

Leslie I finished Indigo Dying (China Bayles, #11) by Susan Wittig Albert . Didn't make it back to Pecan Springs yet but I'm hopeful for the next one:) I really have enjoyed reading this series. With the first few books I just couldn't decide if I actually liked China or not. She changes as circumstances occur much unlike some series' whose characters never change. With each book I just love her that much more.

Lori | 10 comments I finally finished How to Wash a Cat (The Cats and Curios Mystery Series, #1) by Rebecca M. Hale . I really didn't care for the characters or the end, so I will be passing on this series. I'm gonna be starting on Murder Past Due (A Cat in the Stacks Mystery, #1) by Miranda James next.

Jennifer A. (jenn05042005) | 9 comments just finished A Crafty Killing (Victoria Square Mystery, #1) by Lorraine Bartlett in two sittings; I quite liked it, although I thought it was a bit slow to get going. (lots on characters to introduce, etc) I really like the setting in Victoria Square, and all the characters that can show up in future books.

I was quite disappointed to find out that the next one isn't due out till next year, though!! I really wanted to start in on another one right away!

Well, if you considered this one more of a thriller, you'd probably consider the most recent one to be that, too. The 2nd & 3rd probably are more along the lines of what you'd consider a "traditional".

I didn't really care for her Booktown mysteries, but I see this one is getting a lot of good ratings. I've been considering it, but my experience with the last series is holding me back.

message 3139: by Jenne (new)

Jenne | 2 comments I just finished A Peach of a Murder and enjoyed it very much. The main character and the women who live in her home are likeable. The suspect at the end was a shocker to me and I'm already on the second one in the series

Lori, I just finished Murder Past Due and enjoyed it. Hope you like it too!

message 3141: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments Finished Die Buying (Mall Cop, #1) by Laura DiSilverio and really enjoyed it. (After 36 years working for DoD, I always enjoy the military side-aspect in a book). Also read (post hurricane/tropical storm Irene) Betrayal of Trust by J.A. Jance (not really a cozy) which is # 20 in the J.P. Beaumont series by J. A. Jance. It was EXCELLENT!

message 3142: by Erin L (new)

Erin L (wellreadmoose) | 505 comments Finished Evan Blessed (A Constable Evans Mystery, #9) by Rhys Bowen last night. It was really good and quite a change from the slower pace of some of the earlier books.

And Evan got married!

message 3143: by alicia (new)

alicia grant (shesha556) I finished Buttercream Bump Off by Jenn McKinlay and loved it as much as the first one.

message 3145: by Linda (last edited Aug 31, 2011 05:30AM) (new)

Linda I just finished reading Bitter Harvest (Orchard Mystery, #5) by Sheila Connolly and enjoyed it tremendously. The author has a fine, literary style and her characters work really well for me. I do feel that it's helpful to have read the first books in the series, so that you know a bit about how the characters got where they are. But still, it was an excellent mystery.
