What Cozy Did You Just Finish Reading??? (Archive)
So far, I've just read Murder on Waverly Place. I'm just now starting
.But my current absolute favorite cozy writer is M.C. Beaton-especially the Hamish Macbeth series although I'm beginning to really enjoy the Agatha Raisin as well.
I just finished
. I read all 4 in the series back to back and I think books 1 and 4 were my favourites because they focused on the White House and Ollie's kitchen the most. I enjoyed that the mystery wasn't always at the forefront of the story but you also never forgot about it either.
I just finished
- I believe it's the 25th in the series and while I still enjoy them, the books are just not as good as they were at the beginning. I don't know if I'll bother with the last few in the series - I did read the very last one
and it is very bad!

He had one similar to Affairs of Steak before we knew what the next book would be called. I can't remember what his suggestion was but it was funnier than the current title. His other suggestion is The Offal Office. I'm tempted to email Julie Hyzy with that one. :)

Do it! It's hilarious!
Caroline wrote: "Just finished
. A bit more intense than some in the series, I really enjoyed it!"I am so excited to read this one. I love this series!
I just finished The Real Macaw by Donna Andrews. Anything by Andrews is hilarious and a fun/quick read.
Nancy wrote: "Just finished
and loved it. So glad that this is just the first in a new series."
Glad to hear that Nancy! I have it downloaded on my Kindle, just waiting for me ;)
Just finished
by M.C. Beaton. I don't know why, but I really love the Agatha Raisin series & this one was lots of fun.
Ellie wrote: "Just finished

I just read
and
and enjoyed them. The heroine is a little like Stephanie Plum in that she lacks the skills needed for her job but the characters are much less annoying.
Last night finished
-- I totally enjoyed it. I've read all of the books in this series and I was expecting it to be predictable, but it wasn't.
Becky wrote: "Just finished A Crafty Killing and really liked it." I just started this one today! Glad to hear that you liked it.
Just finished English Tea Murder. Ugh! I thought her last book was bad, but this one was worse. I really hate giving up on a series, but I may have to walk away from this one.
Finished The Deadly Dance
. Really like this one. New characters and new developments with recurring characters keep this series fresh.
Susie in KS wrote: "Just finished English Tea Murder. Ugh! I thought her last book was bad, but this one was worse. I really hate giving up on a series, but I may have to walk away from this one."oh, oh, I have this one on my wish list. What didn't you like about it?
Started and finished
last night. It was free on Nook and kindle - still is I think if you want to snag a copy. Also free (as of yesterday anyway)
Just finished Grace Under Pressure. This was the first book by Julie Hyzy I've read although I have one of her White House Chef books in my TBR warehouse, um, I mean, pile. Even though I thought it was a bit too long, I have it 4 stars in my review.
Just finished
. Overall, it was a good book and I'm glad there seems to be some resolution to the "triangle" relationship in which Maddie was involved. There was, however, one incident in the book that really made me angry. Mad takes a cigar from Werner and snaps it in half (regardless of the fact that it was an expensive Cuban). I don't smoke cigars but then she reaches into his desk and snaps the other three in half and throws them in the trash! No matter what you may or may not think about smoking - no one has the right to destroy someone else's paid-for/legal property. I'm tired of being "preached" to or feeling like I'm being lectured about the evils of smoking. I read for entertainment and my viewpoints may not always match up with yours. This is one of my least favorite things in books lately.

There..."I just didn't care for that book altogether, but I agree about that scene you're talking about. I haven't smoked in about 35 years, and I don't have a problem with others who do (unless they blow smoke in my face!), but I don't appreciate "soapbox" things like that in my entertainment.......unless it's a character crusading against animal abuse maybe, and that can even get out of hand if they're telling me I'm evil because I eat meat!!
Kaye wrote: "Susie in KS wrote: "Just finished English Tea Murder. Ugh! I thought her last book was bad, but this one was worse. Let me know what you think about it...when you read it ;)
Heidi (ok you can listen to me) wrote: "Ellie wrote: "Just finished

But I love the village. And how it seems to heal her.
A little bit, anyway.
I just finished
The American Cafe. I loved it. I felt it was up there with Tony Hillerman, Margaret Coel and even Craig Johnson. It has a Cherokee thirty-something woman as the main character and it just flowed.
Finished
. It was an okay read. I thought the boss was way too quick to think the worst of the main character when they were also supposed to be friends, but I'll give the next one a shot.
Finished The Cat Who Ate Danish Modern last night. I think I liked this second book in the series better than the first.
Finished
and I did NOT like it. The main character got extremely annoying - she expected to be included in the police investigation because she's dating the police chief. I probably won't read the third in the series.
Heather L wrote: "Finished The Cat Who Ate Danish Modern last night. I think I liked this second book in the series better than the first."I was the same way. I enjoyed the second one much better.
I finished Smokin' Seventeen by Janet Evanovich a few days ago. I had been getting a little bored with the Stephanie Plum series but this one revived my interest. Still no resolution between Stephanie and Joe vs Ranger however.
Kaye wrote: "Finished
last night and it was better than I expected."I really like this series and it gets better as it goes.
Kaye wrote: "Started and finished

Just finished
. Very cute and very different from any mysteries I've read in a long time. Hopefully it's the first in a series as I'd love to read more about 'Tripping'.Also finished
,
and
while on vacation.I liked the Miranda James' books much more than I thought I would and I look forward to the third. The Witches of East End was enjoyable although the premise towards the end reflected the author's previous focus on YA. Still, if there's another, I'll read it. :)
Melissa wrote: "Kaye wrote: "Started and finished

I just checked again at B&N and DOaTW is no longer free but Lye in Wait is.
Finished The Perfect Paragon
last night. Agatha now has a detective agency and her staff introduce some great and varied new characters to this series. Three deaths for Agatha to untangle. It was quite good.
