What Cozy Did You Just Finish Reading??? (Archive)

Thanks for the update on this one Kelley - you stopped my from buying it! I will just get it from the library and save some money.

I have the first book in my tbr pile - thanks :)

Heidi, I also reserved my copy from the library. I have made myself only buy PBKS now :) Let me know what you think about it!

Great mystery read and the best in the series so far.
Included some new information on Beaufort & Company as well as the history of Savannah.

I read this earlier this month and while I liked it it felt to me like the book was written by someone else. The whole "voice" just wasn't the same to me and I've read them all. I also was extremely annoyed by the word "yep" or "yup", depending on what part of the country you're from, being spelled "yeap". It just drove me up the wall!

I read the first in this series when it came out and was disappointed with it. I thought the main character was just way too clueless. I have the 2nd & 3rd, they were passed on to me by a friend, and hope I like them better.

Hope you like the next two better, too, Melodie. :-)

I was ambivalent about Sweetness too. Flavia was beyon..."
Hi Kathy - welcome :) p.s. definitely going into Sweetness with the knowledge that it may be over hyped.

My thoughts exactly!

Ha! You said you were done after this one - now you just may get it from the library :)

Yeah, I'll probably get it from the library to see if anything happens due to this new character who just came in on the very last page. I definitely won't buy it.

Oh no, I was just going to start this one after I finished online. Maybe she is cranking them out too fast, as I thought Plum Pudding was not very good. Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for the update. I tried to "win" this on the giveaways here, but no such luck. I added it to my pile.

I really enjoyed it. I liked Harper and Tolliver and would love to know more of there very dsyfunctional family background. I thought it was very different and will finish the series.

I agree. The recipes were definitely the best part of this one. I got the book with a gift card and turned it back around on eBay and got back almost all what it cost.

I've been thinking about reading this series. Thanks for the review, Kelley. :-)

I started Homicide In Hardcover by Kate Carlisle, but just couldn't get past the first few chapters...so it's in the DNF pile.

Did the "voice" of this one seem different to you? It just seemed like something was off with this one, even tho I did still enjoy the story.

Sounds like an interesting book, Cindy. :-)

I've been hearing bad things about this newest book. I haven't read it yet, but I'll be upset if it's not good. I've been reading the books back to back for a few weeks now and have really grown to like the characters.

I'm going to give the Domestic Diva series a try as well. Thanks Melodie!

I love the Domestic Diva series too Melodie...and now I'm hooked on the CSI series too!

I love Jasper Fforde! The Nursery Crime Series is actually a spin-off of the Thursday Next Series, the first of which was The Eyre Affair. He does a pretty good job of writing each book so that it can be read stand-alone, but I would definitely recommed reading them all. The Eyre Affair sets up the whole alternate world where people live and breath literature. Not only is time travel taken for granted, but so is cloning extint species at home for fun, literary characters jumping out of books and living in the real world, and real people jumping into literary works and possibly changing the endings. Which is where the heroine comes in. Her name is Thursday Next (what a great character name) and she is a literary detective. She is tasked with keeping people who don't like the endings of books from jumping into them and changing them. Thus the Eyre Affair has to do with someone changing the ending of Jane Eyre. It was so skillfully written that I had to go back and read Jane Eyre afterwards because I couldn't remember how it really ended. lol It helps to be well grounded in the classics when you read this series, because it will make you re-think what you remember.

All the CSI books that Max Allan Collins wrote are good, Susie. The ones after he stopped writing them are hit & miss.

Unfortunately this isn't her best. I just finished it too, and there really wasn't much of a mystery to the murder. It seemed to be more of a set-up for the next book, where I'm assuming Norman's new partner is being set-up as the next victimand the whole job in Florida for Bill was left hanging for some future reason. The recipes were still excellent though.

I've got this one coming up after I finish RED DELICIOUS DEATH.

I agree, Heidi. I read either 2 or 3 of the Harper Connelly books and didn't really care for any of them. Harper is very easy NOT to like and I don't like her "brother" either.
