What Cozy Did You Just Finish Reading??? (Archive)
Just finished "Coward's Kiss" Lawerence Block . It is a real Sam Spade type of book. I guess it is a cozy.Comment?
Love everything Agatha Raisin and on to Carolyn Hart.
I haven't read
but I love Lawrence Block and have read a lot of him.Even though there's the familiar cast and emphasis on relationships, I've always thought of Block as too gory to be a cozy. At least, he's very close to the line and, to my mind anyway, often goes over it.
But I love his writing & his stories & the fact that his Scudder series takes place in the neighborhood where I lived for 20 years and the "Burglar who" series makes me smile & takes place in another of my favorite New York City neighborhoods.
What do other people think? Is Block a "cozy" writer? Or maybe his "Burglar Who..." series?

I haven't read a Lawrence Block book in sometime, but I would not consider him "cozy". I'd call him hardboiled, which is the genre I used to read exclusively.

I've been reading them in order and this was #6. I believe that this one is my favorite so far. Have you read them all? Which was your favorite?
Just finished
and it was a quick, funny, but predictable read. Trying to figure out which series to start next!
Just read Agatha Raisin and the Love from Hell
. Liked this one in the series. The title has more than one meaning. The mystery was good with several plausible suspects. And the Agatha-James relationship reaches a turning point.
Just finished
. Too bad I don't cook much (for just myself) - some of the recipes sound good. Maybe I'll cook sometime when it's not so hot. LOL.
Susan wrote: "I finished Unholy Death in Princeton yesterday. It was OK, but was a little too "preachy" about the differences between Princeton University and the theological seminary. I figured ..."Thanks for the heads up - I had this one on my list for the U in the summer challenge. Guess I'll look at another choice.
Just finished The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie this morning. I had a hard time getting into this, but am glad I stuck with it as Flavia, the 11 year old detective, is quite a character. Her relationship with her teenage sisters is interesting as well. Hard to believe that these books are written by a 70-year old man!
I finished
. Didn't like it much. I read the first in this series a couple of years ago and didn't like it, so I need to stop being swayed by pretty covers!
Finished
yesterday and found it flat compared to her usual work. Also finished
which was very good as well.
I am hoping she wraps up the Stephanie Plum series soon before I grow to dislike it. I am listening to book 17 right now on audio.
Heidi (ok you can listen to me) wrote: "I am hoping she wraps up the Stephanie Plum series soon before I grow to dislike it. I am listening to book 17 right now on audio."I kind of agree. I used to love it, but now it seems like it's just not a priority for her to keep it somewhat fresh. Grandma tries to open a closed casket - check, car explosion - check, lula badly dressed eating cluck in a bucket - check. I was sad with the direction she went with Ranger and Morelli. It didn't resolve a single thing and really just made Stephanie look a bad.
Heidi (ok you can listen to me) wrote: "I am over half done and am disappointed in Stephanie right now."Yeah. Stephanie was a real 'ho in this one. They kept trying to blame "the vordo", but I don't think so!
Also finished 17 and wish something would get resolved. I am also reading a samply of Wicked Appetite and feeling it is at once too much and too little like tghe Stephanie books... I did enjoyed
Sweet Masterpiece.

at all!
Melanie wrote: " I am also reading a samply of Wicked Appetite and feeling it is at once too much and too little like the Stephanie books... ..."I read
before reading any Stephanie Plum books, so perhaps that's why I enjoyed it? I mean I don't think I'd go out and buy the books for this series, but I'd certainly want to be one of the first to get it from my library :) That said, I can barely remember the main character's name and I read the book only 2 months ago.As for Stephanie Plum, I've only read the first 10 books, so I'm not bored with it yet, but am a bit discouraged at this talk about Morelli and Ranger - they're my favourite part of the series.
Just finished
. Not sure if it should really be considered a cozy, but maybe. I thought the main character was great but the story dragged here and there.
Toni wrote: "Melanie wrote: " I am also reading a samply of Wicked Appetite and feeling it is at once too much and too little like the Stephanie books... ..."I read
before ..."Toni, it's really only the last book that was a real problem for me. Up to 15 I was good with Ranger and Morelli. Then 16 took a bit of a curve and I don't know. It just seems like it needs a resolution soon.
Paper, Scissors, Death: A Kiki Lowenstein Scrap-N-Craft Mystery. I'm not a scrapbooker but I'm into crafts in general. I think this was a freebie (or nearly so) on Amazon at one time. I'd give it a c+. Makes a great beach read ... of course I'm hundreds of miles from the nearest beach and melting in Indiana heat!
I finished
yesterday. It was a great read. I went to the library today and found the third book in the series, but not the second. :(

Just finished Haunting Refrain by Ellis Vidler, and enjoyed it a lot. I can't remember if I mentioned it or not, but I also finished Dumpster Dying by Lesley Diehl. Terrific books, both of them.
I just finished
To Sketch a Thief and I enjoyed it. I am glad to see the relationship between Rory and the ghost improving!
Finished
last night and enjoyed it. I really like the new character and would read the next book in the series but I did have some plot dislikes.

I just finished
. Tracy Kiely is a new-to-me author, and I enjoyed this book a lot. I already have the next one in my TBR bag, but I think I'll read
first. I just started it, and it seems to have grabbed my interest, so I will likely keep going. It's a fairly long book, though, so it may be interrupted by some light-weight cozies before I get to the end.
I finished a reread of
, one of my favorite Christie mysteries. I also read
. It was very good. I hadn't realized that Dame Agatha had written a murder mystery set in ancient Egypt.

sounds fascinating. I'm adding it to my TBR list.
