I like this series Jackie. =)
Have you read any others in this series? which one was your favorite?

Elizabeth (elizabeth8921) | 5308 comments Just finished "Coward's Kiss" Lawerence Block . It is a real Sam Spade type of book. I guess it is a cozy.
Comment?

Love everything Agatha Raisin and on to Carolyn Hart.

message 2905: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (elliearcher) I haven't read Coward's Kiss by Lawrence Block but I love Lawrence Block and have read a lot of him.

Even though there's the familiar cast and emphasis on relationships, I've always thought of Block as too gory to be a cozy. At least, he's very close to the line and, to my mind anyway, often goes over it.

But I love his writing & his stories & the fact that his Scudder series takes place in the neighborhood where I lived for 20 years and the "Burglar who" series makes me smile & takes place in another of my favorite New York City neighborhoods.

What do other people think? Is Block a "cozy" writer? Or maybe his "Burglar Who..." series?

I haven't read a Lawrence Block book in sometime, but I would not consider him "cozy". I'd call him hardboiled, which is the genre I used to read exclusively.

I've been reading them in order and this was #6. I believe that this one is my favorite so far. Have you read them all? Which was your favorite?

Shannon (glitco) | 11 comments Just finished Buttercream Bump Off by Jenn McKinlay and it was a quick, funny, but predictable read. Trying to figure out which series to start next!

message 2909: by Elaine (new)

Elaine Penn | 9 comments just finished Getting Old Can Kill You by Rita Lakin -- quick read, fast paced... enjoyed it

message 2910: by Nell (new)

Nell | 1223 comments Just read Agatha Raisin and the Love from Hell Agatha Raisin and the Love from Hell (Agatha Raisin, #11) by M.C. Beaton . Liked this one in the series. The title has more than one meaning. The mystery was good with several plausible suspects. And the Agatha-James relationship reaches a turning point.

message 2911: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments I finished A Taste of the Nightlife (Vampire Chef, #1) by Sarah Zettel and really liked it. Of course, being a vampire junkie made it right up my alley!

message 2912: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments Just finished Pie A la Murder (Della Cooks Mystery, #4) by Melinda Wells . Too bad I don't cook much (for just myself) - some of the recipes sound good. Maybe I'll cook sometime when it's not so hot. LOL.

Thanks for the heads up - I had this one on my list for the U in the summer challenge. Guess I'll look at another choice.

message 2915: by Susan (new)

Susan Just finished The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie this morning. I had a hard time getting into this, but am glad I stuck with it as Flavia, the 11 year old detective, is quite a character. Her relationship with her teenage sisters is interesting as well. Hard to believe that these books are written by a 70-year old man!

message 2916: by Jeanette (new)

Jeanette (shychef30) | 13 comments I just finished reading Just Desserts (Bed-and-Breakfast Mysteries #1) by Mary Daheim is was ok, I like the character, but it was kinda slow.

message 2917: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments I finished Skirting the Grave (A Vintage Magic Mystery, #4) by Annette Blair . Didn't like it much. I read the first in this series a couple of years ago and didn't like it, so I need to stop being swayed by pretty covers!

message 2918: by Erin L (new)

Erin L (wellreadmoose) | 505 comments Finished Smokin' Seventeen (Stephanie Plum, #17) by Janet Evanovich yesterday and found it flat compared to her usual work.

Also finished Evan's Gate (Constable Evans Mysteries #8) by Rhys Bowen which was very good as well.

message 2919: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2446 comments I am hoping she wraps up the Stephanie Plum series soon before I grow to dislike it. I am listening to book 17 right now on audio.

I kind of agree. I used to love it, but now it seems like it's just not a priority for her to keep it somewhat fresh. Grandma tries to open a closed casket - check, car explosion - check, lula badly dressed eating cluck in a bucket - check. I was sad with the direction she went with Ranger and Morelli. It didn't resolve a single thing and really just made Stephanie look a bad.

message 2921: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2446 comments I am over half done and am disappointed in Stephanie right now.

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments Heidi (ok you can listen to me) wrote: "I am over half done and am disappointed in Stephanie right now."

Yeah. Stephanie was a real 'ho in this one. They kept trying to blame "the vordo", but I don't think so!

message 2923: by Melanie (new)

Melanie Jackson (melaniejaxn) | 55 comments Also finished 17 and wish something would get resolved. I am also reading a samply of Wicked Appetite and feeling it is at once too much and too little like tghe Stephanie books... I did enjoyed Sweet Masterpiece (The Samantha Sweet Mysteries) by Connie Shelton Sweet Masterpiece.

I didn't like Wicked Appetite (The Unmentionables, #1) by Janet Evanovich at all!

message 2925: by Erin L (new)

Erin L (wellreadmoose) | 505 comments I apparently liked Wicked Appetite (The Unmentionables, #1) by Janet Evanovich , but I read it awhile ago and honestly can't remember a thing about it anymore.

Toni (cherrycherry) | 57 comments Melanie wrote: " I am also reading a samply of Wicked Appetite and feeling it is at once too much and too little like the Stephanie books... ..."

I read Wicked Appetite (The Unmentionables, #1) by Janet Evanovich before reading any Stephanie Plum books, so perhaps that's why I enjoyed it? I mean I don't think I'd go out and buy the books for this series, but I'd certainly want to be one of the first to get it from my library :) That said, I can barely remember the main character's name and I read the book only 2 months ago.

As for Stephanie Plum, I've only read the first 10 books, so I'm not bored with it yet, but am a bit discouraged at this talk about Morelli and Ranger - they're my favourite part of the series.

message 2929: by Nola (new)

Nola Myer | 21 comments Just finished The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie (Flavia de Luce, #1) by Alan Bradley . Not sure if it should really be considered a cozy, but maybe. I thought the main character was great but the story dragged here and there.

Toni, it's really only the last book that was a real problem for me. Up to 15 I was good with Ranger and Morelli. Then 16 took a bit of a curve and I don't know. It just seems like it needs a resolution soon.

message 2931: by Nell (new)

Nell | 1223 comments Finished another Agatha Raisin Agatha Raisin and the Day the Floods Came (Agatha Raisin, #12) by M.C. Beaton . Enjoyed this one. Like the way this series develops.

message 2932: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cwsmith) Paper, Scissors, Death: A Kiki Lowenstein Scrap-N-Craft Mystery. I'm not a scrapbooker but I'm into crafts in general. I think this was a freebie (or nearly so) on Amazon at one time. I'd give it a c+. Makes a great beach read ... of course I'm hundreds of miles from the nearest beach and melting in Indiana heat!

message 2944: by Sherry (new)

Sherry | 137 comments I just finished Murder at Longbourn A Mystery by Tracy Kiely . Tracy Kiely is a new-to-me author, and I enjoyed this book a lot. I already have the next one in my TBR bag, but I think I'll read The Masque of the Black Tulip (Pink Carnation, #2) by Lauren Willig first. I just started it, and it seems to have grabbed my interest, so I will likely keep going. It's a fairly long book, though, so it may be interrupted by some light-weight cozies before I get to the end.
