I've finished A Pug's Tale by Alison Pace and I haven't liked it. Too much chick-lit for me.

Thanks so much, Susan! Glad you enjoyed it. Yep, Amber is a feisty one! :)

Sorry to hear about the Dire Threads fiasco. I don't like cozies that portray the law characters as TSTL. It really takes away from the credibility of the plot.

Kimmie (thatkimmiegirl) | 100 comments Finished Bead on Trouble (Kitzi Camden Mystery, #1) by Barbara Burnett Smith . This was a great lighthearted cozy. The main character Kitzi is a former senator, inspirational speaker and hobby beader. The plot centers around Kitzi's friends attending Bead camp and is full of fun. Sadly, this author passed away in 2005 and book 2 in this series is co-authored. I think this would have been a wonderful series. She did publish a series prior to this one called Purple Sage which I may have to dig around for.

Yes, we lost a wonderful author in Barbara. The Heart of Texas (Austin) chapter of Sisters in Crime (a writing support group for mystery authors) honors her memory in May with the Barbara Burnett Smith Aspiring Writers Project. It pairs aspiring writers with established mentor writers.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Finished Greedy Bones (Sarah Booth Delaney, #9) by Carolyn Haines . Good addition, not a great one, to the series. I'm on schedule to be caught up in time for her newest to arrive. :)

message 2710: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (elliearcher) Spellcast by Barbara Ashford which I won in a first reads. It was a lot of fun.

message 2711: by Kaye (new)

Kaye (momgee) | 862 comments Just finished Unraveled (A Knitting Mystery, #9) by Maggie Sefton and it was really good. I did figure out who the murderer was but that's okay. It's still a good read.

message 2712: by Lyn (new)

Lyn Ford (lyn003) Just finished Patterns in the Sand no 2 in the knitting series by Sally Goldenbaum
A great light read

message 2713: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments I finished A Parfait Murder (A Mystery a La Mode, #3) by Wendy Lyn Watson the other day and loved it! This series just hits all the right notes with me.

message 2714: by Linda (new)

Linda I just finished Classified as Murder (Cat in the Stacks Mystery, #2) by Miranda James by Miranda James. Very Agatha Christie, with a mansion and a butler and all sorts of odd relatives living under the same roof. Diesel the Maine coon cat is a delight, and his owner Charlie makes for a solid amateur sleuth. This is the second installment in a terrific new series. I loved it!

message 2715: by Zoe (new)

Zoe (bookwormfromathens) | 712 comments I finished 'Til Dice Do Us Part (Bunco Babes Mystery, #2) by Gail Oust and it was enjoyable. Not great, but still a good addition in the series.

So sad to hear she passed away. I remember a few years ago going on the waitlist at the library for one of her books. The release date came and went. I guess she had been sick for a while- I believe she died of a heart ailment.

message 2718: by Sherry (new)

Sherry | 137 comments I just finished Deryn Lake's "Death in the Dark Walk," and I loved it. I need to find a copy of "Death at the Beggar's Opera" at something like a reasonable price, because my library doesn't have it, and I can't even get it through ILL. Death in the Dark Walk (John Rawlings, #1) by Deryn Lake

I fought my way through it; since so many people had raved about this series, I thought I must be missing something. That is the last time I'll force myself to read a book just because other people like it!

Finished Agatha Raisin and the Quiche of Death yesterday. It was an okay read. I would probably read more in the series, at least the next book or two, even though most of the characters tended to irritate.

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments Just finished A Cast-Off Coven (A Witchcraft Mystery, #2) by Juliet Blackwell . Pleasantly surprised with how much I liked it since I really didn't like the first in this series.

message 2722: by Nell (last edited Jun 18, 2011 06:39AM) (new)

Nell | 1223 comments Just finished The Big Dirt Nap The Big Dirt Nap (Dirty Business, #2) by Rosemary Harris by Rosemary Harris. This is the second book in this series; the first one was much better (nominated for an Agatha). It was a mistake to set the second book at an out-of-town hotel. The primary/recurring characters and the home setting aren't established enough to leave home this early in a series. This one needed to be edited - TSTL scenes, too many characters. Because I liked the first one, I'll read the third one which is set back in the character's home town. Hoping this was a sophomore slump.

message 2723: by Susan (new)

Susan I just finished A Decadent Way To Die. It was OK, but the murder in the book seemed like a backdrop to the real theme of domestic abuse.

They irritated me at first and then they kind of became both endearing and comic. I've got abou 20 pages to go in the last one yet published in the series. So hang in there.

I love Davina Porter. Her calm voice sounds so good to my ears. I'll have to keep an ear out for these books, I'd listen to anything she narrated!

Hannah (hanjae) | 82 comments I just finished Royal Flush (Royal Spyness Series #3) by Rhys Bowen and LOVED it. I adore Georgie, there's more developments from the Darcy angle, and the setting in Scotland was wonderful. Can't wait to get my hands on the fourth one!

Bookdepository released it too - I'm just waiting on the snail mail. :)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I finished all but one of the books I was reading:
Busy Body (Agatha Raisin, #21) by M.C. Beaton Finger Lickin' Fifteen (Stephanie Plum, #15) by Janet Evanovich The Quick and the Thread by Amanda Lee Extreme Measures (Mitch Rapp, #9) by Vince Flynn and enjoyed them all. Now, to finish Sew Deadly (A Southern Sewing Circle, #1) by Elizabeth Lynn Casey and start The Runaway Quilt (Elm Creek Quilts, #4) by Jennifer Chiaverini . Gotta pick a new audio, too--maybe Sweetwater Creek by Anne Rivers Siddons which I'm reading for a summer challenge.

message 2737: by Emma (new)

Emma | 109 comments Recentley finished: Murder is Binding (A Booktown Mystery, #1) by Lorna Barrett , The Ghost and Mrs. McClure by Alice Kimberly , The Tale of Hill Top Farm (The Cottage Tales of Beatrix Potter, #1) by Susan Wittig Albert , Homicide In Hardcover (A Bibliophile Mystery, #1) by Kate Carlisle , and What Angels Fear by C.S. Harris . I have been trying to get through some of the books I own and I happen to have a lot of "firsts" being the first in mystery series. I enjoyed all of them imensely, but my favorite was Murder is Binding, followed by What Angels Fear, although I don't know if I consider Angels a cozy. I bought the second Booktown mystery and can't wait to continue with the others. Currently plugging away at The Lies That Bind (A Bibliophile Mystery, #3) by Kate Carlisle

message 2738: by Zoe (new)

Zoe (bookwormfromathens) | 712 comments I finished Whiskey on the Rocks A Whiskey Mattimoe Mystery by Nina Wright yesterday and concluded my Spring Challenge. It was fun, with plenty of quirky characters, at times a bit far-fetched but all in all highly enjoyable.

Caitlin C (caitkom) | 199 comments Just finished The Quiche of Death (Agatha Raisin, #1) by M.C. Beaton . I posted earlier that I didn't care for Agatha's personality. By the time I finished the book, I wanted to run out and buy the next one! I still think Agatha is a little too cold, but there is something about the books that are addicting!

Also, not a cozy, but just finished Blood Vines by Erica Spindler by Erica Spindler. It was so good I read it in two days!

Agreed about Agatha. I don't really like her all that much but I love the series. It is like comfort food.

Read Grace Interrupted (Manor of Murder, #2) by Julie Hyzy (loved it) To Sketch a Thief (A Portrait of Crime Mystery, #2) by Sharon Pape (lots of fun) Dire Threads (Threadville Mystery, #1) by Janet Bolin (enjoyed it a lot) Murder under Cover (A Bibliophile Mystery, #4) by Kate Carlisle (great!) A Parfait Murder (A Mystery a La Mode, #3) by Wendy Lyn Watson (really enjoyed it and the ice cream they talked about made me HUNGRY!) Sentenced to Death (A Booktown Mystery, #5) by Lorna Barrett
(I like Lorraine's books but this one was a bit strange to me with the plane crash and all). Ah well. Lots of good summertime reading!

message 2742: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments I finished Smokin' Seventeen by Janet Evanovich yesterday. Fun read as always, but there was some bad editing in it which drove me nuts. A bunch of great books Caroline! I'm reading Sentenced to Death (A Booktown Mystery, #5) by Lorna Barrett right now, but I'm not really enjoying it as much as the others in this series...not sure why.

message 2744: by Sherry (new)
