I am behind on my Louise Penny books & really need to catch up!

Leslie I read the first Louise Penny...took me forever to get into it then by the end I was loving it. I haven't read anymore of the series yet but I do have the next couple. Maybe that will be in my near future!

Hannah - I'm with Melodie on this one - A Rose from the Dead was awful - I truly hated it. Putting that one aside though, the series started out a bit shaky for me but improved with each book. The ones after A Rose from the Dead are particularly good.

I'd recommend it but with the caveat that it's not a series that starts off strong - and skip A Rose altogether. :P

Leslie I just finished Witches' Bane (China Bayles, #2) by Susan Wittig Albert . This is the 2nd book so I've got alot of ground to cover before I catch up. I just ordered the next 5 from PBS and received the latest one last week(not that I'll need it for a while!).

I love finding a series that I love..and have so many books to look forward to!! Gotta say thanks Melodie...your many great mentions of this series is the reason I gave it a try.

Kimmie (thatkimmiegirl) | 100 comments I finished The Refuge (Maxie and Stretch, #3) by Sue Henry earlier today. I was disappointed that Stretch was pretty much missing from this one. This series should be read in order since the author drops a lot of information about previous books (which I haven't yet read...my bad as I usually read them in order...but I am at the mercy of the library on this series)

Thanks Melodie and Jennifer! I'll give this Flower Shop series another go, then. Since I've already read the worst one in the series, there's nowhere to go but up! :P

Leslie I finished The Lies That Bind (A Bibliophile Mystery, #3) by Kate Carlisle this morning. I love this series! I'm going to start the latest one later today...can't wait.

message 2659: by Susan (new)

Susan I finished Make, Take, Murder, a scrapbooking mystery featuring Kiki Lowenstein. Kiki has lots of problems, not the least of which is finding a leg in the dumpster outside her store. I enjoyed this book and plan to go back and read the first three in the series.

This series is one of my favorites! I wish the author could write faster:) I'm always so disappointed when I finish the latest book knowing I have to wait another year.

I totally agree on this! The Tea Shop series has gotten tedious for me and I'm done with it after SCONES & BONES.

Hannah (hanjae) | 82 comments Just finished Stuck on Murder (A Decoupage Mystery, #1) by Lucy Lawrence , the first of my June challenges. I liked it even more than I had expected to! Linda was right; Lucy Lawrence has a light and easy style and the book had a nice balance of humour, mystery and a sprinkling of romance. Onto the Cut to the Corpse!

Leslie I just finished Murder under Cover (A Bibliophile Mystery, #4) by Kate Carlisle . I love this series..but this one was my least favorite of the 4 so far. I'm still looking forward to the next in the series though!

Hannah (hanjae) | 82 comments Just finished The Long Quiche Goodbye (Cheese Shop Mystery, #1) by Avery Aames . Unfortunately I was rather disappointed with it; perhaps my expectations were too high?

Susie in KS wrote: "I read this whole series Hannah, and enjoyed all of them!"

Glad to hear it, Susie! I like that with there being only 3 books in the series, there's no chance of the love triangle being dragged out.

My least favorite so far, too. I thought it was a bit over the top.

Toni (cherrycherry) | 57 comments Just finished A Charmed Death (A Bewitching Mystery, #2) by Madelyn Alt , it was a bit better than the first book The Trouble With Magic (A Bewitching Mystery, #1) by Madelyn Alt in the series but that's not saying much.
I find this series just moves too slow and could have been edited better to make it tighter. Too much information in there that is not crucial to the storyline and that's dragging it down.

Yes Maggie is a bit immature. I also found it strange how she instantly became friends with Felicity. She trusted her right away and seems to fawn all over her.
How many did you read in this series? I have the first 4, but I won't go past that.

J. (silvermama) Just finished A Drunkard's Path. The background for the mystery is a quilting shop, so there was quite a bit about quilting. It was a fun read.

Robin Allen I just finished There Goes the Bride by M.C. Beaton on CD. This is my second Agatha Raisin book, and if I were reading it, I would have put it down after a few chapters. As it was, I was on a long roadtrip with nothing else to listen to.

Kimmie (thatkimmiegirl) | 100 comments I recently finished Plaster and Poison (A Do-It-Yourself Mystery, #3) by Jennie Bentley/Jenna Bennett . I really like this series. What a great cast of characters. Avery is smart and I like her relationship with Derek.

I also finished Truly, Madly (Lucy Valentine, #1) by Heather Webber last week. I decided to try this series since so many people recommended it. I loved it. I found the characters enjoyable and the story interesting. I finished it in record time and plan to buy the next one soon.

Kimmie (thatkimmiegirl) | 100 comments I finished A Case of Bad Taste (A Morning Shade Mystery #1) by Lori Copeland . This is a Christian cozy mystery. Unlike most cozies this was a much more serious read. The story revolves around a woman, her Mother-In-Law and her daughter going through a tough time. Throw in 3 dogs, 1 cat, and you get a good mix of mayhem. The mystery is a light one and revolves around an anonymous decorator that targets locals seniors by breaking in and redecorating.

Jean Someone please explain to me how you get the picture of the book and author in your comments. I tried the html but it didn't work. Thanks.

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments Jean wrote: "Someone please explain to me how you get the picture of the book and author in your comments. I tried the html but it didn't work. Thanks."

When you want to add a book, either just title link or cover, you click above the comment box where it says "add book/author". Then you type in the title and click search. When you see your book go to the bottom of the box and choose either "link" or "cover" and click add. That puts it in your comment. If you want to add the author go back to the box and click on the "author" tab. When you find your author click add again to add the author.

Jean The Saturday Big Tent Wedding Party (No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, #12) by Alexander McCall Smith
Yeah, thanks to Melodie, I did it. One more tick off my technology knowledge.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Finally finished Dire Threads (Threadville Mystery, #1) by Janet Bolin . Someone earlier asked me to post my thoughts when I'd finished it, so here goes.

I found this book to be a poor starter. I found the characters to be, not shallow themselves, but shallowly written. A definite lack of depth and complexity in the writing. Way too much detailed information about machine embroidery and way too much bragging about "sisters-in-thread". The sheriff was a simpleton in the TSTL category. On the plus side, I didn't guess who the culprit was until it was revealed. But overall a very unsatisfying book I really had to struggle to get through.

I've also finished up Wishbones (Sarah Booth Delaney, #8) by Carolyn Haines . I expected to dislike this one in the series but I ended up really enjoying it.
