What Cozy Did You Just Finish Reading??? (Archive)

So you'd recommend the series, Jennifer? I randomly picked up [book:..."
Hannah - I'm with Melodie on this one - A Rose from the Dead was awful - I truly hated it. Putting that one aside though, the series started out a bit shaky for me but improved with each book. The ones after A Rose from the Dead are particularly good.
I'd recommend it but with the caveat that it's not a series that starts off strong - and skip A Rose altogether. :P

I love finding a series that I love..and have so many books to look forward to!! Gotta say thanks Melodie...your many great mentions of this series is the reason I gave it a try.

Always glad to add to your TBR Pile, Leslie!!

Thanks Melodie and Jennifer! I'll give this Flower Shop series another go, then. Since I've already read the worst one in the series, there's nowhere to go but up! :P

This series is one of my favorites! I wish the author could write faster:) I'm always so disappointed when I finish the latest book knowing I have to wait another year.

I totally agree on this! The Tea Shop series has gotten tedious for me and I'm done with it after SCONES & BONES.

I agree Kari...I enjoy the Cackleberry books more than the others ;)

I read this whole series Hannah, and enjoyed all of them!

Glad to hear it, Susie! I like that with there being only 3 books in the series, there's no chance of the love triangle being dragged out.

My least favorite so far, too. I thought it was a bit over the top.

I find this series just moves too slow and could have been edited better to make it tighter. Too much information in there that is not crucial to the storyline and that's dragging it down.

I don't like this series either. I find the main character to be terribly immature and just don't like her.....or the stories either!

Yes Maggie is a bit immature. I also found it strange how she instantly became friends with Felicity. She trusted her right away and seems to fawn all over her.
How many did you read in this series? I have the first 4, but I won't go past that.

Louise Penny is one of my favorite authors. Her books are amazing.

I read the first 2 and didn't like either so I ditched the series.

Melodie, I liked Deadly Notions a little more than Pinned for Murder ;)

You can use it for the blue cover in the June mini challenge

Party by Alexander McCall Smith. Pretty good read about the No. 1 Ladies Dective Agency in Botswana.

When you want to add a book, either just title link or cover, you click above the comment box where it says "add book/author". Then you type in the title and click search. When you see your book go to the bottom of the box and choose either "link" or "cover" and click add. That puts it in your comment. If you want to add the author go back to the box and click on the "author" tab. When you find your author click add again to add the author.

I found this book to be a poor starter. I found the characters to be, not shallow themselves, but shallowly written. A definite lack of depth and complexity in the writing. Way too much detailed information about machine embroidery and way too much bragging about "sisters-in-thread". The sheriff was a simpleton in the TSTL category. On the plus side, I didn't guess who the culprit was until it was revealed. But overall a very unsatisfying book I really had to struggle to get through.
