What Cozy Did You Just Finish Reading??? (Archive)
I stumbled on
from my library's overdrive website. I love Maxie and and her dog Stretch. I have requested more of this series.Kimmie

And she is starting a Witchcraft series with the first book due in January 2012.
Just finished
and liked it a lot. This was the first time I read any of Watson's books. Now I just have to go back and get the other two.
I finished Pumped for Murder this afternoon. I really like the Helen Hawthorne series that Elaine Viets writes and enjoyed this one. For those of you who like to read series in order, this may be one that you will want to read from the beginning. Part of the plot of this book involved an event from a previous book in the series.

I just finished Odds Against for the May Author. Before that I also read Mourning Gloria. It felt like it cheated a little on the mystery, but still I liked it a lot. I enjoy these characters & the herbal info too.

- This was for my Cozy Mystery Discussion ... which I just remembered I'm supposed to be leading. Whoops!

I just finished Lawrence Block's "A Touch of the Hard Stuff." Block is a longtime favorite, and this one is a trip down memory lane with Matthew Scudder, his private eye, that takes place during Scudder's first year in AA. Three people die after a successful 9th step...

I don't quite consider them cozies, tho.
I just finished reading the first book in a new series called "Curiousity Thrilled the Cats," by Sofie Kelly. Super cute series debut with all the traditional elements of a cozy (small town setting, good character development, feisty protagonist, hints of romance, etc) , along with some good writing and plot development. Plus, cat lovers - here's another one for you! Highly recommended for a nice summer read. I think book 2 is coming out later this year.
I like Lorna Barretthttp://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/6...#- and I agree that that was a wicked funny thing to do. I love Lawrence Block but he's so not a cozy!I finished
by Carolyn Hart yesterday. So far, it's my favorite in the series. But I love them all!
I just finished
. It's the perfect rainy day read; nothing like a bit of humour to brighten things up. :D

, too. I'm not usually a huge fan of first person POV, but this one really worked for me. I liked the protagonist very much as well as the setting. I thought the mystery was well thought out, so there was more to the book than just interesting characters. I'll definitely buy the second one.
I just finished the third 1920s Daisy Dalrymple mystery -
by Carola Dunn, in which Daisy's next-door neighbor is dramatically murdered on stage by poison. The love interest between Daisy and detective Fletcher continues to develop. An enjoyable read.

I finished Homicide in Hardcover by Kate Carlisle. I thought it was very well written and have already started the second one, If Books could Kill. I would have posted the covers but GR is not cooperating just now.

Just finished Killer Mousse
by Melinda Wells. I am a big fan of the Daytime Mysteries she wrote under the name of Linda Palmer. I was disappointed with this one probably because I compared it to the series I loved. The characters were ok but not as likeable. I thought it needed more editing and guessed (correctly) the murderer about midway through. Not sure if I'll read the next one.

But I've got the third one and I'm going to give it a try - some of the characters grew on me in the last book so I'm hoping the mental comparison will fade.

I am almost finished
I liked it as much as the first one. Another good cozy series with a charater I enjoy.
I have just finished Curiosity Thrilled the Cat it was great! Very entertaining and cute. Original and a breath of fresh air for me.
Finished
by Carolyn Haines. Another great read in this series - but I'm sort of afraid to keep going. There's a central character relationship that I don't think is going to last and I'm not sure I want to go there. :P
Just finished
by Carola Dunn. I thought the first book was slightly better, but still really enjoyed this one and can't wait to move onto book 3. The quaint English manners and aristocratic slang is a particularly refreshing change from modern cozies.
Jennifer E. wrote: "And just finished
today. I think I liked this one best."So you'd recommend the series, Jennifer? I randomly picked up A Rose from the Dead from the library and was thoroughly unimpressed with it, but I've read a number of reviews that said it was an uncharacteristically bad one, so I'm pondering whether I should give the series a second chance.
Hannah wrote: "Jennifer E. wrote: "And just finished

Not Jennifer, but I recommend it. A ROSE FROM THE DEAD was probably my least favorite of the series.
We have to create a category for the humorous ones that don't involve bloody scenes ... like Stephanie Plum. Someone mentioned one yesterday on one of the cozy lists.

I saw her do an interview where she said that with her Dead End Job series, she actually works each job before she writes the books so she honestly knows what she's talking about.
Just finished
by Louise Penny. How she can write books that are simultaneously sad and hopeful, I have no idea, but she does it every time.
