What Cozy Did You Just Finish Reading??? (Archive)
I just completed The Moving Finger by Agatha Christi Hard not to like a Christi, though I would have liked more of Miss Marple's involvement. She was just in a tiny bit at the end.

I finished Scones & Bones. Even though I like tea and Charleston, this may be the last one I read in this series. I gave it two stars because of its weak plot and seemingly rushed ending as well as for some of the truly awful writing in this book.

. Wow. The plot qualifies as a cozy but the language most certainly does not. I don't mind language in a book if it defines a character or is called for by events (subjective criteria, to be sure) but the language in this book not only seemed gratuitous but some of the choice words were beyond the pale. Vulgar for vulgarities sake.Having said that, the story was good, and the author did a good job with character development and setting. But I don't know if I'll read another in the series or not.

. SOOO much better than the last book. Huge improvement! Makes me get excited about the series again.

I still like China Bayles. I need to pick up Sara Rosett's latest. I always enjoy her books. : )

I thought Sinister Sprinkles was better than the first 2. But it's still not a great series. Still not a series I like enough to buy the books.
Just finished Grace Under Pressure by Julie Hyzy and loved it! I have to say my favorite cozy mystery series is by Diane Mott Davidson, but I've read them all so I'm looking for new ideas.Val

Melodie, I thought it started out really slow and I didn't really get interested until I was half way thru. Sometimes it just takes me awhile to get used to new characters, so I will give the next one a try.
Not too sure about this "monkey" book either. I think others liked it more than I'm enjoying it ;(

I saw the new one at Border's yesterday.
Finished Faux Finished by Peg Marberg. Can't say I really cared for this one. I had a hard time getting into the plot and keeping track of characters, even with the cheat sheet included in front of the book. The editing in this one left a lot to be desired too. The thing that made me cringe the most was reference to Christie's "Hercule Perot." Cringe. Shudder. It would be bad enough for any other genre to get Poirot's name wrong, but in a mystery?! Simply unexcusable! Will probably (eventually) read the second book in this series only because it is on my shelf. Both books were thrift store finds.
Just finished
by Anna Katharine Green. I loved it. Also-I can't remember if I posted I finished
by Carolyn Hart. Loved that too-but now my tbr list is even longer! :P
Finished
by Natalie M. Roberts. It was a quick, fun read and filled the Utah hole in my Read the USA challenge!
Just finished
. While not as good as her daytime drama series (stupid publishers) I still find this to be an enjoyable series. I thought the ending was rather abrupt, but I didn't know who the murderer was until just before I was supposed to. I'll be ordering her next book.
Just finished
by Amanda Lee. It was fairly good - I will probably look for the next one in the series.

The 1st and 4th in the Bride Quartet series are the best ones. I like her romantic suspense novels. I have a few mysteries she's written as JD Robb in my TBR pile. Dru's commments and yours will move them up. Based on other comments you've made here, you might find Roberts' Circle Trilogy, starting with Morrigan's Cross, or the Sign of Seven trilogy, starting with Blood Brothers, more to your liking.
Just finished Poisoned Pins. I was surprised I didn't like it more than I did.(Gave it 3 Stars) This was the 8th in the series so I guess I won't be reading the first 7.
Karen wrote: "Just finished Poisoned Pins. I was surprised I didn't like it more than I did.(Gave it 3 Stars) This was the 8th in the series so I guess I won't be reading the first 7."Have you read Hess's other series? I like the Maggody series better than that series.

The first few in the Claire Malloy series are really very good. The longer the series has gone on, the weaker it has become. I would go back and read some of the earlier ones to see if you like them a little better.
Also, in the Claire Malloy series, the daughter (Caron?) was a teenager in the later books, right? She was always really annoying, but became pretty unbearable at that point. One of those characters that can ruin a book/series.

. I really love this series but this wasn't one of her best. I found the Bridezilla to be so annoying I had trouble finishing it. I think this meets the May mini-challenge "Blame Someone Else".-Kimmie
i have just finished Cooking Up Murder by Miranda Bliss i think that this was a real good book i cant wait to get the next one

This time I will try to get the first book in the series. Thanks for your input!

and had so much fun reading it! This is one of my favorite series and I don't want it to end! I'm eagerly waiting for the next installment ( of course I 've already ordered it ).

Interesting book. Doesn't exactly qualify as a cozy since there were some sex scenes that, while they weren't explicit, were a bit non-mainstream. Still, it was a good story, well written, although one that seems to be directly tied to previous books in the series. I read this one for the "X" in the A-Z title challenge, but I might read the earlier ones if I come across them.

, the second in Carola Dunn's series featuring bold and charming 1920s amateur sleuth, The Honorable Daisy Dalrymple and Scotland Yard detective Alec Fletcher. Delightful series so far.

I just finished
and I really enjoyed it. This one really wowed me. The twist was a good one and I am really looking forward to the next book because I can not wait to see what will come of this!
I just finished Murder of a Bookstore Babe by Denise Swanson. I enjoy her Scumble River series and reading about her school psychologist sleuth.
Nancy wrote: "I just finished Murder of a Bookstore Babe by Denise Swanson. I enjoy her Scumble River series and reading about her school psychologist sleuth."I really like this series too!
I'm in the middle of Black as He's Painted and just finished Spinsters in Jeopardy. Ngaio Marsh is, next to Agatha Christie, my favorite cozy.I think that perhaps the Mystery Group's May read The Coroner's Lunch could be called a Laotian cozy as it's rather quiet.
I started
last night & am almost finished. It's totally addictive. I could get a little annoyed at some of the verbal mannerisms of our heroine but I have a suspicion that I' addicted because she kind of talks the way I think.

Just finished The Dancer and The Thief. Good story! Weaving politics, ballet and a spectacular robbery together, Skarmeta helps one understand Chile in the days it was recovering from political chaos. One begins to adore the young dancer/student, Victoria, and her romantic boyfriend, Angel, who loves her with all his heart. In addition, the sophisticated gentle thief who is adept at cracking safes, Vergara Gray, is so charming. And, if you are in for a quick fun read pick up Paws for Alarm and join a family taking a trip to England for a few months. An adventure turns into a mystery when someone begins trying to kill the husband. Arnold finds himself at the wheel of a car with no brakes and a vehicle out of control. An accident? Then he is attacked by a group of rugby players on the train platform, one of whom comes at him with a knife. Lastly, while waiting in line for a bus someone gives him a shove in the back pushing him into the path of a bus. What is happening to this poor American who has come to England to pursue his research? The truth is a tangle that needs to be unraveled.
Melodie wrote: "Ellie wrote: "I started

Just finished
. Rosemary writes great books since I've always been interested in plants and such (studied horticulture for a while and one of my sisters is a Master Gardener) and I love the humor in the books.
I just finished reading A Test of Wills which introduces the detective Ian Rutledge. It's set in England just after the first World War. This is a good solid cozy with psychological suspense that kept me guessing until the end. I'll definitely read more in this series.

I felt the same way about the 2 of these. What a shame #1 was really good and #2 was really bad.
