Mary wrote: "Just finished Roast Mortem by Cleo Coyle - loved it! I only wish her next book was available."I just finished this one recently as well. For some reason I didn't like it is as much as I like the others, but I know I will keep reading this series! I love it! Murder by Mocha coming August 2011.
Melodie wrote: "Finished
last night and really liked it! This series is a favorite of mine."Melodie, I'm patiently waiting for this one from my library...glad you liked it! It took me forever to read the rest of this series.
Just finished
and
. I love both of these series and want to thank Leann Sweeney and Elizabeth Lynn Casey for these great reads!
Jennifer - I also just finished
& really enjoyed it. I agree about the maid though. It's funny, I never cared much for Rys Bowen's other series, but I truly like this one. I'm now reading
the latest Judge Deborah Knott - not exactly a cozy I guess, but a good series.
I just finished Farm Fresh Murder by Paige Shelton (Farmer's Market Mystery #1). Liked it and of course already bought the next one!!
Just finished up
. I like this series - not a huge favorite but an enjoyable, reliable series. I'm always happy to see when a new one comes out.
I just finished
An Uninvited Ghost - 2nd in the Haunted Guesthouse Mystery series. It was an enjoyable fun read.
A.F. - That's next on my list! : ) I just finished
I really enjoyed it. This one is set in Cabot Cove and, of course, revolves around the world of figure skating, which I really enjoy.
I finished
yesterday. It was so-so, I wasn't exactly overwhelmed.I hope the next book in the series is better.
Zoe wrote: "I finished

I just finished
Spying in High Heels for the Spring challenge.I had a slow start due to work being busy and my being tired, but the other evening I whipped right through it when I decided my neck and arms needed a break from computing and knitting. I really enjoyed it once I got far enough in to be more invested in the characters and the sub-plots.
It probably falls more into the soft-boiled detective than a true cozy. In common contemporary form it involves a fair bit of romance and sexual tension, though nothing too terribly graphic. I enjoyed it enough to be considering the Kindle bundle with the first 5 books of the series for $9.99. This one I had gotten free at some point.
Just finished
last night. Aside from the fact that the story specifically states in the first couple of chapters that it's a sunny February and talks about early tourists coming round, and then suddenly talks about it being Autumn with the last of the tourists leaving, making it obvious someone wasn't editing carefully enough, this was a really good story. I enjoyed it thoroughly once I stopped being confused about what time of year it was taking place in. :)
I just finished Dyer Consequences. Enjoyed it but nothing special. It was interesting learning about how the special dyed yarns are done.
Dru wrote: "I just finished the new debut series
by Virginia Lowell and I liked it."I really enjoyed that book too, Dru. And the weird thing is, my middle sister collects cookie cutters. I guess I had no idea it was such a collectible. LOL
Finished
and was really surprised because I actually liked it! Didn't care much for the first 2 in the series.
Melodie wrote: "Finished

I just finished
. It got a little boring towards the middle, but I did like it better than the last book.

Ugh! Sloppy editing is one of my biggest peeves.

I know, it set me off the book for ages, until I just went back, verified the mistake and then readjusted my internal image. I can't believe it wasn't caught by anyone. Still it was a fun plot. :)
Just finished A Deadly Cliché last night. I have to say I enjoyed this one much more than the first book. I think the author is going for a tragic protagonist and I still see here as being wooden, but the overall character development and the plot line were both excellent and I'll watch for the third release.
This site is almost too good. Every time I check in, it semms I come away with another dozen "must reads".Thanks everyone. :D
I think. ;}

This is a fun series. You have several good reads ahead in this one.
Just finished
for the April Challenge. This is the third one I read from this series..wish I had been able to read them in order but that how it goes sometimes.
Finished The Ghost and The Haunted Mansion last night. Another good addition to the series, and really liked what this book said about censorship and not judging what other people read. This comes up as customers complain about a racy standee used to promote a new thriller. Here is what Penelope's Aunt Sadie says on the topic:
"[Customers] are perfectly free to purchase what they like to read. In this store, everyone is, and no one will ever be made to feel bad about reading whatever speaks to them, whatever makes them happy. Did you know a St. Francis (local college in the book) Ph.D. candidate once asked me in serious, earnest tones why I sell cozy mysteries?
"...Apparently this young man hadn't heard that Agatha Christie is one of the most widely read authors in the English language, and the genre in which she excelled is still very much alive and loved, not to mention one of our most popular sales categories.
"Should I stop selling the Yarn Spinners their favorite books because some young man, paying oodles of money to read a professor's syllabus, has an opinion about what some of my very best customers 'should' be reading?"
* * *
"I'm not saying...that this year's roster of bestselling authors will stand the test of time. But, you know, the novel itself was once considered a 'disreputable' genre; and some of the greatest books ever written--in my humble opinion--would be dismissed today as 'popular' fiction, given the literary theories of the moment. And I do mean moment, dear."
* * *
"Academia can be as changeable and trendy as the rest of society in what it decides to deem worthy, and people who go out of their way to make others feel bad about their enjoyment of a particular book, even an entire genre, are missing the bigger picture.
"At a time when fewer and fewer adults are reading anything, we should be celebrating enthusiasm, not condemning it.
"Be careful... 'My' books are good and yours are bad' is a dangerous Animal Farm game... For some people, 'erudition' is nothing more than a vehicle for hostility and arrogance; 'good taste' merely an excuse for condescension--or worse, censorship."

Go Aunt Sadie!
Just read
today. It was good, but seemed to drag a bit and also to be a bit darker than the others in this series. Still a good read, though.
Over the last week I finished
and
. The first was predictably good, as I enjoy Jim and his kitties. The second was okay however, I found Angelica fairly annoying. I hope she will grow on me.-Kimmie
I just finished Buttercream Bump Off last night after having started it a month or so ago and then having gotten distracted by other books. It was pretty good although I wasn't too fond of the antics between Mel and company and Olivia Puckett. I'll probably pick up the next one in the series.
Kimmie wrote: "Over the last week I finished

from the library (I have this semi-goal of reading as many books-about-books as I can). I hope I like it.
Just finished
as part of my a-z character challenge. I'm not sure what to think about this one - it started off with Miss Zukas being so prudish and prim that it wasn't enjoyable to read, but I could see character development as the story progressed. I guessed the culprit almost from the beginning, but it was still a great storyline.
I finished
yesterday for the April Challenge. It was a good first effort and I'll read the following books in the series.
I read A Veiled Deception by Annette Blair yesterday and really enjoyed it! I love the vintage clothes, the quotes at the beginning of each chapter, the magic, the main character, and the story. I found it fun, light, and entertaining which is exactly what I seek in a cozy!
I finished
and while it was a quick read. I loved the donut recipes I found the characters to be a little to snarky at each other in there conversations that put me off a little. I do have the next 2 here so will probaby try those and see if it continues.
Finished
yesterday. I love this series and this is a fun take on a locked room mystery. Trapped in a strip mall during a spring blizzard with two dead bodies and suspects running amok. I enjoy the protagonists sense of humor and snark. :) Look forward to reading the next in the series.
Finished
and really liked it a lot. This series is a favorite of mine. Picked up
as my next cozy instead of
.
alicia wrote: "I finished

I just finished Night of the Living Dandelion
, Kate Collin's latest. I wasn't sure about this one because a key character is believed to be a vampire (not my interest), but I ended up giving it 4 *s. The back story of Marco being recalled to active duty was a good development in their relationship. It touched on what so many with loved ones in the military have to face. Plus it was a good mystery and I am looking forward to the next one.
Well yesterday I finihshed Cookie Dough or Die and loved it, So started The Busy Woman's Guide to Murder and absolutely loved it. Now to figure what to start tomorrow.
Nell wrote: "I just finished Night of the Living Dandelion

I really liked the story and the mystery was well done. You're so right about the latest development. I'm anxious to see where that goes. Great series!
Just finished Shakespeare's Champion
. I had read the first in the series a few years ago and wasn't hugely impressed, but I still had the next few in the series around the house and the second one fit a challenge I'm doing so I read it. I liked it much better than the first-- the story was compelling, the incident at the church riveting (don't want to spoil it by going further) and there was a lot less rubbing in of the main character's troubled past so she came off much less as though she were continually justifying her neuroses. Gave it four stars.
Just finished the last two books in Sandra Balzo's coffeehouse series.
and
. I love this series and I hope there's another one on it's way. :)
Dru wrote: "Just finished

I finished Green Trigger Fingers, and then made short work of Henrietta Who?. Enjoyed that one. I'm looking forward to picking up some more of the John Sherwood books next library visit.
