What Cozy Did You Just Finish Reading??? (Archive)
I just finished Devil's Food Cake Murder
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaagh!

Aside from book two, which I think has been the weakest of the set, I do like this series. Just got book four for my birthday earlier this month, but haven't got round to it yet. Too many books clamoring for my attention!
Finished The Ghost and the Dead Man's Library by Alice Kimberly Friday night. Good addition to the series, but now I'm wanting to (re)read some Poe.

To Kaye, I have read all of Sally Goldenbaums'Seaside Knitters series. I loved them! I am eagerly awaiting her next one, Wedding Shawl, which according to Barnes and Noble will be out 5/3 of this year.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaagh!"I'm curious, Rosemary. What's your long 1-word comment on the book mean? I assume something frustrated you in the book. Can you explain what without giving away the plot?
Beth wrote: "Rosemary wrote: "I just finished Devil's Food Cake Murder
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA..."Not really. But I will say that the big surprises she has started to throw in at the end of her books do nothing but annoy me. But then I buy the book anyway and read it and leave long 1-word comments on my goodreads review space. I guess what I mean is, gosh, I don't want to sound picky but it seems like, OK, I've got it: In the book before this one, she introduced Bev the dentist, Norman's old flame at the end of the book. So one buys the next book expecting that story line to have a substantial part. But it doesn't really. However, that relationship is brought in again at the end of the recent book and used as yet another cliff hanger. so instead of bringing me into it and making me intrigued and wanting the next book sooner because I now have a relationship of my own with this new character, it just annoyed the heck out of me because I still don't really know anything about her except for the oblique references and vague reactions the main character has towards the new character. I swear if it had been me, and I never would have let this gone on as long as it has if it WERE me, I would have dotted both of those guys' eyes a long time ago and gotten out of Dodge. Thus the long one word comment.
Y'all are much more tolerant that I am - I got fed up with the love triangle in Joanne Fluke's series after about book three. Part of it was probably my apathy about both the males in the running, but honestly, after reading everyone's thoughts about this series, I'm so glad I bailed out early.
Ok, just returning from holiday and have finished three books:The Secret History of the Pink Carnation - started off well, but in the end had to struggle through it to finish it - the historical storyline just started to drag for me. Left it in the hotel room.
Absolutely, Positively - Love this series and this book was great! Can't wait for the next one!
Fruit of All Evil - meh. Can't decide if I'll continue with this series or not - the writing and the character development just don't feel realistic to me. But there are a lot of things I like too...

I only read one of Fluke's books and wasn't impressed. I'm a picky reader though. I did keep the book for the recipe in the back.

I was surprised when I actually liked it compared to the last couple. I agree with what someone else said about the cliffhanger thing in the last 2 books. I think she realizes people are pissed off about the stupid "triangle" going on for so long, and this is how she's trying to keep readers. Even though I didn't think this one was so bad, I'll only read the next one if it's a gift, too!
I've read and enjoyed 2 classic British mysteries which I would classify as cozy. The Red House Mystery by A. A. Milne and Death in the Stocks by Georgette Heyer. Neither author is exactly known for mystery writing but they both were very good.

. Callie Parrish is back and I'm glad. She and her family are a lot of fun."I enjoy this series too, and I've got it wish listed on PBS..so I should have it pretty soon ;)
Just finished
. I love this series. I think this book was a tiny bit choppier than the first two, but it was still great! I read it in a day and a half!
Thank you by the info, Caitlin, I'm going to read it after Good Tidings, that I'm currently reading.
Kathie, I have Maisie Dobbs on a mystery reading challenge. Hope I have better luck when I read it. Just finished The Queen's Man by Sharon Kay Penman, a quick well written historical mystery that is a fun read. The hero is Justin de Quincy who inadvertently helps the queen solve a mysterious murder and becomes the queen's man. Now into Cruel as the Grave by Penman which continues Justin's adventures as the queen's man.
Kari - I enjoy Livia Washburn's literary tour series. I think it's a lot of fun.Just finished the latest Daisy Dalrymple book
. This is another great series, even though historicals aren't typically my favorite. Carola Dunn does an excellent job of entertaining while throwing in some light history which is educating. Very nice.
I just finished
The Divine Circle of Ladies Tipping the Scales. This is one of my favorite series and I just love the depiction of the five women and their close friendships while putting away criminals. This book was great as usual.
I just finished "Berried TO The Hilt".Halfway through it, I remembered I had already read it! "A mind is a terrible thing to waste". I am starting "Buttercream Bump Off" tonight.

I just finished a reread of The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. It had to have been almost 40 years since I read it, and I thought I didn't remember anything about it. As soon as I was a chapter in, it all came flooding back. It was still a good read, though. I have no idea what I'll read next. I have both Buttercream Bump Off and The Quick and the Thread about a third of the way done and staring at me from the pile.
I've finished Never Forgotten - A Mary O'Reilly Paranormal Mystery and I've liked it the same than the previous ones. I hope she writes more books in this series.
I finished
on 03/27 and
today. The former was o.k. but the mystery itself wasn't thrilling. As far as the second book goes,I liked Callie's personality and her sassy blind girlfriend, Jane.

I even had my hubby reading them(Audio) on
his long trips he takes.
He loved them too.
A sure winner.

Started and finished Crewel World today. I had read it a few years ago, but found I didn't really remember much of it. I don't know what that means :>. I do know that I enjoyed the book, enough that I will pick up the next one in the series.
Rosemary wrote: "But I will say that the big surprises she has started to throw in at the end of her books do nothing but annoy me. "Thanks for explaining, Rosemary! This is a trick that I would never think of doing, but it's helpful for us mystery authors to know what types of things annoy readers, so we can avoid them.
Just finished
. I love the Pepper Martin series and there are some cool twists at the end of the book. Very nice.
I just finished the cozy,Drip Dead"
I really enjoyed.
I read the whole book last night.
I enjoy the mother/daughter relationship.
Sounds like my mother and I when she was still alive.

Just finished
. Since this seems to be the last book in the series, I was hoping it would tie up a few loose ends...but no such luck.
Just finished two books today, as I came back from holiday with a cold as a souvenir.
- This was, as reported, much better than the first two. I enjoyed it quite a bit and I'm looking forward to reading the next one.
- I really enjoy this series, even though the story lines tend to be more melancholy than I'd like. Growing up on Siesta Key, it's fun to 'visit' home. :) This one fulfils my 'raining cats and dogs' book for this months challenge too.
I had started The Quick and the Thread last month, and then put it down about a third of the way through while I read other things. I finished it last night.
Finished The Ghost and the Femme Fatale yesterday evening, and loved all the references to old film noir movies. Except, now I have a lengthy list of movies to see or rewatch. And talk about timing--last night's episode of Castle ended with a film noir/femme fatale tie-in. Gotta love it!
Now on to the last book in the series, The Ghost and The Haunted Mansion.

I just finished
, the first in the English 1920s series featuring Daisy Dalrymple, and thought it was a very charming and promising beginning. I'm glad to see there are a lot of books waiting for me in the series!

Just finished Royal Blood by Rhys Bowen. I love that in this book her sister-in-law finally gets as good as she gives and I just plain liked the rest of the story as well - although the new maid could be a bit painful to read about in upcoming books. Still, looking forward to it. :)

quilters series set in Kansas - the plot and some of the characters sounds like one of her other books from the Seaside knitters series. It was okay but I like the Seaside series better.
