Sorry to disagree, Kaye, but I was really looking forward to reading this latest episode in the adventures of Hamish Macbeth. I read it yesterday, and it has been a long time since I was as disappointed in a book as I was in this one. It seemed to consist of one senseless killing after another (much more gorey than her other works) and in some instances the connection to the plot (such as it was, and what there was of it!) was very tenuous. If you have other books further down on your TBR list that you're looking forward to, you might want to skip over this one and read them first, because this one is a waste of time.

I love this series, too!

That's good to hear Kaye...I think I'm #2 on the waiting list from the library ;)

No need to be "sorry to disagree" that's what makes this forum interesting. If we all liked the same books, it would be pretty boring. One man's trash is another man's treasure so the saying goes. I do agree that this was more gory than some of her other books but I still like Hamish and I did like the plot line about Angela's writing.

death on demand is a amazing writer i have too agree with u

I also like Hamish, and the plot line about Angela's writing could contribute to some interesting things in the future. Unfortunately, I thought that almost got lost among the other stuff.

Speaking of the Hamish series, I've run across it here on the forums a fair bit and good friend of mine has recently reviewed a handful of them on her blog. But, the early books do not seem to be very accessible - at least via the library (only WMA audio file via NetLibrary, no print copies and as I'm a mac user that leaves me out), my local used bookstore etc. Does anyone have a recommendation on the absolute latest book one should start with? I'm kind of anal and like to read series in order as best as I'm able.

I watched a few episodes but the accents were too hard for me to understand.

Karen, when you "add book/author" there will be little buttons that appear at the bottom of that screen that ask if you want to add the "link" or the "cover". I think the link button is usually marked so you have to manually change it. Hope that makes sense ;)

The Kindle formatting for book was much improved, however. There still was no working table of contents, but there was no strange mark-up text or odd line breaks in it anywhere. Belle Bridge Books more recent releases may no longer be banned from my purchasing (I borrowed this title).

I didn't really care for the first couple and hadn't intended to read anymore. But the cover of the newest one just drew me in because it was so pretty so I caved. It was much better than the previous books!

I just read this one also. I'd say your comments are right on. I must admit I'm interested in reading the next one in the series.

So am I. I'm a fan of her romance novels. This series is a new twist.

She might do one more. I asked her, if it
was at all possible, to finish the"story"
with a good ending if she is done with this series.
She said she might be able to do that.
Right now I am reading two books.
"How to Survive a Killer Seance".
Plus, "Murder of A Bookstore Babe".

I recently received this one from paperbackswap.com, read the first one..and looking forward to this second one in the series!

McKevett's mystery books are really
fun to read.
Five stars from me.
What did I like?
The characters Savannah, Mike, her mother,
her friends etc.
The story line was very well done.
This book had friendship, love, and a message
to tell.Has anyone else read this mystery?

I read it a month or so ago. This has long been one of my favorite series, but this book and the one before it have just been a bit "off" for me. They don't "sound" the same to me, as though the voice is off. It's almost like they were written by someone else. I did really like the ending of this one as it was quite unexpected, so I'll be around for the next one.

Sorry to hear you didn't like it.
I loved it.
To me, it is her best book yet.
Another author I like is Donna Andrews.
I usually love her books.
Her "Swan For the Money" was just so fun.
But the last one,"Stork Raving Mad",
was not so great.
I hated the ending, and having so many
characters with nothing important to say,
turned me off to her book.

I've read a few of Donna Andrews books and they were pretty good. A couple of my favorites are Susan Wittig Albert & Earlene Fowler. Susan' new China Bayles book,

I have to say, I haven't read any Albert or Fowler
books so far. But people seem to enjoy them.

I agree with Melodie on these two series and I really like them! You need to give them a try ;)

I didn't like the first two but the fourth one was great."
This may be a series that I start in the middle. I found the 3rd one at a library booksale. From the comments in this group, I may stop trying to find the first two in the series.
