Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 308 comments I finished How to Wash a Cat (The Cats and Curios Mystery Series, #1) by Rebecca M. Hale . I liked the protagonist although there were times I wanted to strangle Monty who was her (almost) constant companion. The cats were adorable although there's no way on this earth I could get my cat to stroll around nonchalantly in a large room filled with strangers. I liked it well enough to plan on reading the second book when it comes out.

You and I must have been in the same mood Jennifer, because I finished it yesterday and felt the same way. It was good, but I was kind of thinking "huh"? about certain parts of it (like the old lady).

It freaks me out too. I think that is why I don't like anything resembling a thriller. I stick with the "safe" authors even on mysteries. I read to escape not to be put in some crazy person's head.
I'm a wimp and I know it! :-)

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Just finished A Brush with Death by Elizabeth J. Duncan. This book was ok. I didn't much like the relationship between the protagonist and her "best friend", Victoria. I thought this relationship was too accelerated in the first book and in this one, I found it annoying, stilted, and a bit herky-jerky. I'm not against reading a third one, if released, but I'm not going to rush out to get it on publication.

Loved it.

This is the second in the Bayside Writers series and picks up where the first one, A Killer Plot, left off. Excellent character development and a well-written and fast-paced plot. Highly recommended!

Mary (Biblophile) | 4610 comments I just finished BUSY BODY by M.C. Beaton (Agatha Raisin #21) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Agatha is grating but always an enjoyable read.

I finally started reading her other series, Hamish Macbeth, and find I like those ones, too. They're a pretty fast read.

I've read just about every book in the Charlotte and Thomas Pitt series and don't think I'd describe them as kinky, though for the era they may be a bit progressive, i.e. I think one story involved someone was secretly gay. I'd also recommend the Inspector Monk series by her as well.

I also finished this book. I thought it started slow, then got really interesting, until I got to the last fourth of the book. I got bogged down in the identity changes and possible identity changes, both in the past and present. I'm very confused as to what actually happened at the end of the story. I may or may not continue this series.

I also was annoyed with Monty, but at times, his antics were rather amusing. I also think the cats may be more than what they appear to be.

Caitlin C (caitkom) | 199 comments Just finished Loose Ends (A Mary O'Reilly Paranormal Mystery) by Terri Reid . This was a great book. I couldn't put it down!!! I can't wait to read the second one and I am hoping she continues the series.

Kimmie (thatkimmiegirl) | 100 comments I just finished If Looks Could Kill (Bailey Weggins Mystery, Book 1) by Kate White . I picked this up pretty cheaply and I didn't have very high expectations but I really enjoyed it. Fun characters with a lot of "suspects". Kind of like a Sex in the City mystery. I will definitely keep my eyes out for additional books in this series.

message 2175: by Nell (new)

Nell | 1223 comments Just finished Kiss of Death (Daytime Mystery, #4) by Linda Palmer Kiss of Death by Linda Palmer. I enjoyed it. This one answers questions about the main character's past and she picks one of her three suitors - so that story line did not drag on and on. The present-day mystery in this one was a stretch. The murder was in a 'fit of rage'; the attempted murder was easier to understand. Even though she left the ending open for another story, there aren't any more in this series. Guess I'll have to switch to Killer Mousse (Della Cooks Mystery, #1) by Melinda Wells Killer Mousse, the series she writes as Melinda Wells.

This series is actually not bad. Guess she is done with it as I haven't seen a new one in a couple of years.

Maggie (ceodraiocht) | 17 comments Just finished Better Read Than Deadlast night, Abby Cooper, Psychic Eyeeve before. Both were a light easy read, enjoyable. Second book has more humor/wit. After reading it you could feel a bit of the effort in the first installment. In my review I note her male interest is a twin to Evanovich's Morelli.

I really enjoyed that one too! I read around Halloween (not on purpose) and that made it a bit more fun since it meshed with the time of the year the book was set. I'm intrigued to see where the series will go.

Kristi (fiberfool) | 38 comments I most recently finished The Quiche of Death The Quiche of Death (Agatha Raisin, #1) by M.C. Beaton by M.C. Beaton. I got to borrow it via booklending.com.

At first I wasn't caring for it. I think the beginning of the book was jam packed with too much information that was being told rather than shown. But the book eventually picked up speed and interest for me and I'm looking forward to continuing the series now that some of the backstory has been set up.

message 2183: by Kelley (new)

Kelley (booknerd69) Just finished Ghost Ship by P. J. Alderman. Let me just say that this author is extremely talented and this series has become one of my favorites very quickly. I love all of the characters in this book, which is not usually the case. A lot of the times there is at least one character that works my last nerve, but not so in the case of this series. I can not wait for the next book and hopefully find out what happened to Charlotte! A solid 5 star book!

adlin | 101 comments Just finished On What Grounds (Coffeehouse Mystery, #1) by Cleo Coyle for the March read. It wasn't bad, though I thought the story could have been stronger. I'm also not a coffee drinker, so that was, at times, a bit over the top for me. Overall, it wasn't bad though.

I think everyone has a similar reaction to Agatha at first. She is quite prickly, but once you get used to her you love her.

Actually some of her faults were hitting a little too close to home. It might be a very therapeutic series to read.

Zoe (bookwormfromathens) | 712 comments I finished If Walls Could Talk (A Haunted Home Repair Mystery, #1) by Juliet Blackwell yesterday and I must say I absolutely loved it! Well, maybe I'm a bit biased because San Francisco, where the story takes place, is one of my favorite U.S. cities and I tend to see every book set there positively, even before plunging into the story. Moreover, Juliet Blackwell's writing flows easily and pleasantly, creating suspense and a great sense of the place, not only in this book, but in the Witchcraft mystery series as well.Great characters, beautiful historic homes to be renovated by Mel, magnificent city. What more could I ask for?
