Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments Finished A Decadent Way To Die by G. A. McKevett Saturday afternoon. The ending saved the whole book! Now I have to read the next one!

Kaye (momgee) | 862 comments Just finished Town In a Lobster Stew by B.B. Haywood and liked it a lot. A little bit of foreshadowing at the very end which leads me to think the next one, Town in a Wild Moose Chase will be just as exciting. Contest for this one starts Monday. I'll put the deets on the giveaway page. Happy Sunday and happy reading!

message 2003: by Susan (new)

Susan I finished Wreath of Deception (A Craft Corner Mystery, #1) by Mary Ellen Hughes last night. I enjoyed the characters in this book (Charlie, the teenager, is totally believable) and will look forward to reading more in this series.

message 2004: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth | 24 comments I just finished reading Buffalo West Wing (White House Chef Mystery #4) by Julie Hyzy and absolutely loved it. I'm not one to overthink a book and this one had twists and turns when I didn't expect them. This is a great series and I look forward to reading the next book as soon as it comes out!

adlin | 101 comments I just finished Sister Pelagia and the White Bulldog. Not what I expected, but basically a good read. Not sure I'll read more in the series, though.

Finished Baltimore Blues (Tess Monaghan Mysteries by Laura Lippman last night. I liked it, but had mixed feelings about the main character, Tess Monaghan.

In some ways I could relate to her (ie: losing a job you loved and struggling to find where you fit in while not feeling good at anything), but there were other aspects of her character that lowered my respect for her (ie: Johnathon). All in all I did like the book, at least well enough to read the next in the series, Charm City, which I have already started.

message 2008: by Kimmie (new)

Kimmie (thatkimmiegirl) | 100 comments I just finished If Walls Could Talk. I enjoyed the writing style and the characters. I figured out the murderer early on but this didn't take away from the story. Mel just seems like someone you might know in real life trying to balance family and work. I am looking forward to the next one in this series. If Walls Could Talk (A Haunted Home Repair Mystery, #1) by Juliet Blackwell
-Kimmie

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I just finished Slay It With Flowers by Kate Collins. I liked this book more than the first - but still find the constant admonition from all the other characters to "stop meddling" really annoying. Makes me feel like I'm cheering on the local busybody (who is usually the victim of cozies, not the protagonist). Still, I did enjoy this one more and I'm ready to start the third after a short break.

message 2011: by Sandy (new)

Sandy | 93 comments I finished X Dames: A Lucy Ripkin Mystery by J.J. Henderson. It was almost as much a chick-lit book as a mystery but it was a quick read and the sun, sand and surf were good for a winter day.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Sandy - I have this on my TBR pile, glad to know it wasn't a lemon. :)

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Just finished up You May Now Kill the Bride by Deborah Donnelly. I'd read the first two in this series when they first came out and somehow never read the rest of them. This was a good read and it was nice to catch up with the characters again after such a long stretch. I guessed the killer midway through, but I still enjoyed the read.

message 2014: by Zoe (new)

Zoe (bookwormfromathens) | 712 comments I've just finished Pick Your Poison (A Yellow Rose Mystery, #1) by Leann Sweeney , which was simply exquisite! I love Leann's writing and will read all the other books in the series, as well as The Cat, the Professor and the Poison (Cats in Trouble Mysteries) by Leann Sweeney , the second installment in her "Cats in Trouble" mystery series. I really enjoyed The Cat, the Quilt and the Corpse (A Cats in Trouble Mystery, #1) by Leann Sweeney , which I read last year. Thank you Leann! Keep up the good work!

I also finished A Crafty Killing (Victoria Square Mystery, #1) by Lorraine Bartlett and Polished Off (Southern Beauty Shop, #2) by Lila Dare and enjoyed both of them. (And can't remember if I posted or not but I also read/finished Ghost in the Polka Dot Bikini (A Ghost of Granny Apples Mystery #2) by Sue Ann Jaffarian and really loved it as well as Curiosity Thrilled the Cat (Magical Cats Mystery, #1) by Sofie Kelly ! I've actually been reading about a book a day! Good thing I've still got a couple more to read! : )

Caitlin C (caitkom) | 199 comments Just finished Murder on the Cliffs A Daphne du Maurier Mystery (Daphne du Maurier Mysteries) by Joanna Challis . It was a good read. I loved Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier and this has Daphne du Maurier as the main character, which I found enjoyable.

Melissa, I read all the Anne George books and enjoyed all of them. I live in the area so that made them extra fun. I thought she did a really good job of capturing the local atmosphere and culture.

alicia grant (shesha556) I finished Truly, Madly (Lucy Valentine, #1) by Heather Webber and I loved it. One of my new favorite cozies. Going to start #2.

Glad you liked Lucy's adventures! I finally read the first 2 in this series late last year and was hooked. Now reading Absolutely, Positively (Lucy Valentine, #3) by Heather Webber !

message 2029: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments Aha! You and I are actually reading the same book at the same time, Melodie! Hahaha. I love the Lucy Valentine series. Heather does good work.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Just finished Glazed Murder by Jessica Beck. Meh. I'm not sure I'd read any more in this series - the writing felt very stiff and earnest, even though I could see that she was trying to write characters that weren't. The only time the writing felt natural to me was in the dialog between her and her mother - I really liked seeing the mother/daughter relationship portrayed with mutual affection and equal sniping. :) Her reasons for 'investigating' felt forced though and in the end it was a book I had to labor through. Anyone else here read this series? Does it get better with subsequent books? (The recipes look good, btw.)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments Jennifer wrote: "Just finished Glazed Murder by Jessica Beck. Meh. I'm not sure I'd read any more in this series - the writing felt very stiff and earnest, even though I could see ..."

Felt the same way about this one. I gave it 2 stars when I read it, primarily for the great sounding recipes! I read the 2nd one. It was very marginally better, but haven't read the 3rd one and probably won't unless I can get it on PBS.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Glad I'm not alone on this one. Shall put the book aside for the recipes and put the series in the back of my mind. :)

Finished reading Charm City last night. I have book three, Butcher's Hill, on the TBR pile, but am taking a break from Lippman for a couple more in vogue with Valentine's Day by Kate Collins. Okay, so there will still be murder and mayhem, but there's also flowers. *g*

I have never been able to get into Laura Lippman's books. I really want to like them, but I just don't. She's a really nice, funny lady and is always great at B'cons.

What? My God, I haven't looked at it in that way (BTW, Amanda Quick is usually like that), so perhaps I'll reread it (no effort at all :-) ), and I'll choose it for clue (I've some problems with certain rooms).

Caroline | 661 comments Just finished Absolutely, Positively (Lucy Valentine, #3) by Heather Webber (LOVED it!)and now back to A Decadent Way To Die by G. A. McKevett

message 2041: by Nell (new)

Nell | 1223 comments I just finished Polished Off (Southern Beauty Shop, #2) by Lila Dare Polished Off by Lila Dare. I liked it - a good mystery with lots of possible suspects and a few twists at the end. There is a romantic triangle developing and I'm rooting for the guy she did not walk off with at the end of this book. Leaves you wondering what happens next.

message 2042: by Zoe (new)

Zoe (bookwormfromathens) | 712 comments I just finished Duplicity Dogged the Dachshund The Second Dixie Hemingway Mystery by Blaize Clement and I thought it was pure genius. It's a fast-paced thriller with a few cozy elements, a true emotional journey in Dixie's world. It realy had me going through an entire gamut of emotions and reactions ( and for me, this is what characterizes good fiction ).However, I'll take a break from the series for now and read something much lighter and then I'll be back to read Even Cat Sitters Get the Blues A Dixie Hemingway Mystery (Dixie Hemingway Mysteries) by Blaize Clement .

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Just finished A Killer Crop by Sheila Connolly. I have to say this series gets better with each book and I enjoyed this one more so than previous instalments. It was a bit slow-going through the first half of the book - lots of repetitive conversation between mother and daughter, but it picked up nicely the second half with an interesting story line about Emily Dickinson. I'll most likely check out the next book in the series.

message 2044: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments Finished A Decadent Way To Die by G. A. McKevett and I loved the ending! Now 3/4th through Force of Habit (A Falcone & Driscoll Investigation) by Alice Loweecey . This is the first in a new series and so far, I'm really enjoying it!

message 2047: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments Oh and I finished Force of Habit (A Falcone & Driscoll Investigation) by Alice Loweecey tonight. It was quite intense in parts but had humor and was a good read for me. Looking forward to more from Alice Loweecey and think this was a good first book.

I also finished Witch by Barbara Michaels . I am not sure it was a cozy but it was a good mystery and I plan to read more by Barbara Michaels.

Kimmie,

I loved all of the Barbara Michaels books, with the exception of Other Worlds, her last one. She writes as Elizabeth Peters as well, in case you didn't know and her stand alones are really good there as well. Enjoy reading her books!

Zoe (bookwormfromathens) | 712 comments Just finished Buttercream Bump Off by Jenn McKinlay -I just love this mouth-watering, yummy series! The characters and the setting, a cupcake bakery are very funny and entertaining; the best reading choice for a lazy weekend at home. I'm eagerly looking forward to the next book, "Death By The Dozen".
