I've just finished Waiting for Armando for the December challenge. I hadn't read any other book for this author and I've liked it a lot.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Just finished The Mysterious Affair at Styles for the December author read. Christie is a genius, and it was a great story, but geez, Hastings is an idiot! This was my first Poirot, I've only read Marples up until now. Not sure which I'll read next.

I really liked it! The Cackleberry Club series is my favorite of Laura Childs' series. I'm looking forward to BEDEVILED EGGS in the next week or so!

message 1759: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) | 630 comments I tried reserving that one, but they don't have that one at my library yet.

The last couple in this series were slim on the mystery, at that point I was just reading them for the characters myself.

I loved both those books, Melanie! I just finished Bedeviled Eggs (Cackleberry Club, #3) by Laura Childs and liked it very much. Now I'm halfway through A Killer Crop (Orchard Mystery, #4) by Sheila Connolly and really liking this one too!

A Midsummer Night's Scream (Jane Jeffry, #15) by Jill Churchill at least had a sort of murder investigation going on. You're right, though. This is a series that I'm reading (somewhat sporadically and out of order) strictly for the characters. And I usually don't do that. Mysteries without clues, an ongoing investigation, and a detective of some sort make me drop a series very quickly. Maybe I'm tolerating and actually rather enjoying this one because I like the characters. I really prefer something along the lines of Agatha Christie.

I've been eyeing this one!

Heidi | 2446 comments Finished The Missing Ink and really liked it.

message 1768: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Just finished Death at Dartmoor Death at Dartmoor (A Victorian Mystery, #8) by Robin Paige I had begun to dislike the series because the cast of real, historic figures seemed too fantastic for the background of the heroine.
This one, however, restricted itself to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and seemed more plausible.

Have started Death at Glamis Castle Death at Glamis Castle (A Victorian Mystery, #9) by Robin Paige but am a bit nervous since, once more, royalty in the person of King Edward VII and the family of the present Queen's mother are to play a part. These characters in the plot just don't ring true to me.

message 1769: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments Just finished To Fetch a Thief (A Chet and Bernie Mystery, #3) by Spencer Quinn and Cat Coming Home by Shirley Rousseau Murphy . I love animals so I really enjoyed both of those (but you have to be willing to believe animals can talk - mentally, in the case of Chet, the dog and ACTUALLY in the Joe Grey series. : )

Susie Fevella (susieinks) | 821 comments Just finished Wicked Craving and as much as I love the characters, I found the story to be lacking something. But, I've got the next book already pre-ordered on my Kindle.

I also just finished listening to 6 Killer Bodies. It was OK, but I'm curious if there are going to be anymore books in this series.

message 1771: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments I finished both Truly, Madly (Lucy Valentine, #1) by Heather Webber and Deeply, Desperately (Lucy Valentine, #2) by Heather Webber over the weekend and loved both of them!

Caroline | 661 comments Okay, don't know if you'd call it a cozy but I just read Ghouls, Ghouls, Ghouls (Ghost Hunter Mystery, #5) by Victoria Laurie yesterday. It wasn't due to be released until 28 Dec but I went by Borders to show them my copy of A Killer Crop (Orchard Mystery, #4) by Sheila Connolly . I just bought it, just read it and before I even finished, the entire book came out of the cover! (No glue or not enough) and then it seemed like the pages were going to come apart so I took it back to let Borders know. I mean - $7.99 for a book and it doesn't even stay together until you finish reading it?! Well, I didn't have my receipt but it still had the Border's sticker on the back and they gave me a refund so when I saw Ghouls, I actually got it for free (because I'd already read a Killer Crop). What a crazy day!

I've read all the Jill Churchill series but I perfer her Grace & Favor series over the Jeffrey series. G&F takes place in the 1930s and the first in the series is Anything Goes.

message 1774: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (ladyvictoria5) | 218 comments I am finishing Christmas at The Mysterious Bookshop by Otto Penzler Christmas at the Mysterious Bookshop. The premise is Otto Penzler, actual owner of the MB and famous editor, requested one mystery for the past 17 years to write a Christmas story that he could give away to his customers at the MB. The only criteria is that it needed to be around Christmas time and have at least once scene at the MB. If all that was written about him were accurate, he is one guy I'd love to meet! Anyway, most of the stories are winners and it's a great read. I'm mailing it out on PBS tomorrow. (We're snowed in today and the schools are closed).

Where are you snowed in Vicky? My daughter just called from Mt and is worried that she'll have terrible delays getting home to Vt tomorrow. She flies to Salt Lake and then to Boston. We aren't getting anything here at the moment and haven't for several days. Ah, winter--great if you can hibernate like the bears, horrible for the rest of us.

This series is actually very good for awhile....then they start to get tedious with the silly "triangle" being the main culprit!

message 1779: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments Just finished Mistletoe and Mayhem (Pennyfoot Hotel Mystery, #18) by Kate Kingsbury . Can't say that historicals are my favorite but it was a great book to help with the Christmas spirit. And Dru, again, you have great taste! (Loved that book too - If Walls could Talk)

This one is on my wishlist for Christmas, and I've heard good things about it, so I can't wait to read it!

message 1781: by [deleted user] (new)

I just finished Tapped Out (Jenny T. Partridge, #2) by Natalie M. Roberts by Natalie M. Roberts.

It was okay. The mystery seemed pretty thin, but the dancing background is keeping me with the series :)

alicia grant (shesha556) I started Avenging Angels and while i liked the first 2 books. I did not care for this one.It is getting way to complicated for me.Plus Bree sister is really getting on my nerves. Maybe the stress in my life is interfereing so i may try again sometime later. I did really enjoy Delicious and Suspicious and will continue on when there are more.

I could never get into the Beaufort & Company books. Bree was just too clueless as to what was going on around her.

"You have to suspend your disbelief."...that's what a good friend who is a professor of English Lit often says to me. I enjoy some novels more when I stop measuring them against history or the 'real world'.

I'm so glad to hear that. I liked the first one, but was a little disappointed with the mystery in the second one. I've put off reading
The Diva Paints the Town The Diva Paints the Town (A Domestic Diva Mystery, #3) by Krista Davis . Now I'm making it my next mystery read and getting The Diva Cooks a Goose (A Domestic Diva Mystery. #4) by Krista Davis to read right after that.

I finished The Diva Cooks a Goose (A Domestic Diva Mystery. #4) by Krista Davis and Bedeviled Eggs (Cackleberry Club, #3) by Laura Childs . Susan I just finished reading Glazed Murder Glazed Murder (A Donut Shop Mystery, #1) by Jessica Beck

I had a hard time getting into this book and couldn't find a really good reason for Suzanne Hart to be investigating the murder. The ending just seemed kind of thrown together rather than a real conclusion. And what was up with that tour of the donut shop for the elementary school kids right in the mniddle of the investigation?

message 1799: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments Just finished A Stitch Before Dying (A Black Sheep Knitting Mystery, #3) by Anne Canadeo . The cover is really much prettier than what shows on GR. I crochet myself (never really got into knitting) but appreciate it and enjoy Anne Canadeo's books about the Black Sheep Knitting Shop. This is the third in the series and was really good.
