What Cozy Did You Just Finish Reading??? (Archive)

I just finished Eggs in Purgatory. I enjoyed it and have now started the second in the series. Does anyone know the state where it is set?
Just finished The Viognier Vendetta by Ellen Crosby. It's been a very solid series so far, but it seems that every book has someone trying to run her off the road - but maybe it's just me.I'm looking forward to the next one.
Thank you everyone for the well wishes! I am looking forward to a weekend on the couch with a new cozy!
Heather L wrote: "Miki: The "Cackleberry Club" series is set in Minnesota."Thank you. That is what I thought at first.

I think you are right about the driving problems.
Jennifer wrote: "Just finished The Viognier Vendetta by Ellen Crosby. It's been a very solid series so far, but it seems that every book has someone trying to run her off the road - ..."Now that you say that, it's true. I've really enjoyed this series so far!
I finished
this afternoon. I have mixed feelings and am not sure that I will continue with the series. I got it for August's challenge(travel or vacation)and had a hard time getting into it--hence not completing the challenge until 9/2. Has anyone read further into this series-would you recommend continuing?
Picked up Final Exam by Maggie Barbieri yesterday and once I started, I just kept going until I finished it last night. :) I had doubts about this series when I finished the first book - I had a hard time getting into the characters and the setting, but with each subsequent book in the series I've enjoyed it more and more.Kudo's to the author for this book too, because it's a mystery with no murder - not something you find very often and she did a really good job with it, in my opinion. But... she loses tons of points for not knowing her own characters backstory - something that absolutely drives me up the wall. The whole basis of this books premise is she is forced to move into a dorm and can't refuse because she isn't tenured. But in the first book she specifically states that the protagonist received tenure. Ugh! drives me batty! To me it's like typo's that slip past the proof reading process - no excuse for it save laziness. But I'd still highly recommend the book and the series. :)

I finished
tonight. I liked it as much as the first. I wonder if this is going to be a series or just a trilogy. I really enjoy the Lost Love mystery and the Missing persons mystery. I hope she continues as a series. I think they are more romance than mystery but it's got a really good mix of both.
I've just finished
and I've enjoyed it a lot. Perhaps because it's fast-paced and the main character is the kind of woman I like to see at the books (clever, strong, smart but not "funny")

Just finisned A Fatal Grace by Louise Penny. This is my second Three Pines mystery; I'm looking forwad to the next!
Cindy wrote: "Just finisned A Fatal Grace by Louise Penny. This is my second Three Pines mystery; I'm looking forwad to the next!"Be sure to read A Brutal Telling before Bury Your Dead (the latest) Bury Your Dead has spoilers and reopens the case in A Brutal Telling.
I just finished Aunt Dimity: Snowbound. It was a little too wholesome and lacking in a good mystery for my taste.
Just finished Top O' the Mournin' by Maddy Hunter. It was ok, probably only 3 stars, as it felt like the main character was jumping to wild conclusions all the time, and I didn't feel like there were good clues leading up to the solution. Made her sort of come across as scatterbrained and silly. But I've ordered the rest of the series so I'll keep reading.. :)
Dru wrote: "I just finished Last Writes by Sheila Lowe and I enjoyed it." Did you read the two previous books in this series also....WRITTEN IN BLOOD and DEAD WRITE??
Just completed Hickory, Dickory, Dock by A. Christie on audio as well as A Tale of Hawthorne House by SW Albert. Each time I pick one up I think I won't like it but I enjoy each one. This was the 4th. Also Gunpowder Green by L. Childs (#2), Alpine Traitor by M. Daheim, and Miss Zukas Shelves the Evidence by Jo Dereske (#8).
I just finished reading CORPSE ON THE COB by Sue Ann Jafarian and really enjoyed it. It's the most recent book in her Odelia Grey series but the first one I've read.
Finished Murder Uncorked late Sunday morning. Aside from the continuity in editing gaffe, it was a pretty good mystery.
Jennifer wrote: "Just finished Top O' the Mournin' by Maddy Hunter. You might read it next and see if you like the series any better.
I finished Hail to the Chef yesterday night and I liked it a lot. I think I'll try the next too (although not now).
Lois wrote: "I just finished reading CORPSE ON THE COB by Sue Ann Jafarian and really enjoyed it. It's the most recent book in her Odelia Grey series but the first one I've read."I really like this series. I'm reading the 4th one,
, right now.
Just finished the Long Quiche Goodbye. It's a first novel by Avery Aames. Quite good too. I really enjoyed the portrayal of the Grandparents. they are French and as I live in the Acadian area of Maine, I(the book is set in Ohio) found the portrayal true to life.
I just finished A Simple Shaker Murder by Deborah Woodworth. I really enjoyed this book. I know very little about the Shaker religion and lifestyle, so this was very interesting to me. I also enjoyed the mystery and how it unfolded.
Hi everyone! I've been reading everyone's post to get an idea of my next reading. I've noticed we all are drawn to places we know or were raised in. I too do this. I was born and raised in Fl, so I love reading mysteries from the south. What are the best southern mysteries you can recommend?? Thanks!

. Really first rate read!
I just finished Holiday Grind by Cleo Coyle. It was pretty good. I liked the characters and the setting.
I just finished The Long Quiche Good-bye by Avery Aames. This book started out very slow for me, in fact I wasn't even sure I was going to finish it. But, about a third of the the way into it, the book and story just seemed to take off. The writing gelled and the characters started to flesh out more. The downside is I figured out who the killer was as soon as that character was clearly defined; but it really didn't detract from the overall story. I hope there isn't going to be a long drawn out triangle between the lead character and the two potential guys in her life. I do have to say the secondary character of Rebecca was by far my favorite. I hope to see a lot more of her in the future.

Albert's China Bayles series and Hart's Death on Demand are consistently strong. Also consider Margaret Maron (NC), Joann Hess (AK) and Elaine Viets (FL). There are several other authors, but these will get you started.

Don't know what part of FL you're from, but there are two series that take place in Sarasota (where I am from) that I love reading.
The first was only three books, I think. The first in the series is called Skinny-Dipping by Claire Hamner Matturro. The second series is about a pet sitter on siesta key - I found the first couple of books a bit depressing, but they've gotten much better as the series goes on (the protag loses her family to a drunk driver before the series begins). The author is Blaize Clement and the first book in the series is Curiosity Killed the Cat Sitter.
Hope that helps! :)

Sabrina Fair wrote: "Just finished Sprinkle with Murder by Jenn McKinlay. I thought it was adorable, definitely predictable, but adorable nonetheless. Can't wait to try one of the cupcake recipes."The Blonde Bombshells are very good!
I finished
last night. I enjoy this series. All three ladies have a unique personality and they compliment each other perfectly. I got the first book of the other two series when Laura Childs was the featured author. I don't know why I haven't started them yet. I just seem to pass them up when I'm staring at the TBR pile.

Thanks Nell and Melodie! I've picked up Margaret Maron and Elaine Viets. I do love Carolyn Hart. I try to start at the first book of the series. I've never heard of Lila Dare, but am excited to try her book. Thanks so much!

I just finished Fatal Fixer-Upper by Jennie Bentley. I really enjoyed it and will look for the rest of the series.
I finished The Queen's Man today! It was an excellent book! I look forward to reading more in this series.
I finished
last night. I thought it was ok. I really didn't get why she was SO into solving the crime and willing to risk her life or at the least--jail time for people she didn't even know. I also would have like to see a reunion between the father and his 2 kids. I did like it enough though that I will read the next one in the series. There have been other series that I didn't really LOVE the first book...but once I got into later books I was glad I didn't abandon ship!
Finished
which was a decent read, even if it made me stretch my believabliity factor a bit much. Also finished
which was pretty much a waste of time!

I just finished reading Delicious & Suspicious by Riley Adams. It was good. There were a lot of characters to keep up with, but I enjoyed them - they definitely had personality.
