What Cozy Did You Just Finish Reading??? (Archive)

I still reallky enjoyed the book, though.

The Southern Sisters series is good. I plan to read them again ... in my spare time! :-)
I just finished The Gatehouse Mystery by Julie Campbell, the 3rd Trixie Belden book. Enjoyed it, but not as much as the 1st two. I will continue to read them. I can't believe I never read them before ... I read all the Nancy Drew & Hardy Boys books.
Finished A Bone to Pick by Charlaine Harris last night er, very early this morning (sometime between 1 and 2 am...I am sooo bad!). Pretty good, but wish I hadn't had such a long gap between reading the first and second book in this series. Now to acquire books 3 and 4...

Just an opinion, but you may want to space reading this series out a little. It gets annoying how the main character goes on an on about how much he loves his wife. I mean, I guess at first it's kind of cuite. Gets kind of creepy, icky, fake feeling. More so, to me, as you go on in the series.

I really wanted to like this series and kept reading, hoping they'd get better. The premise is great - but the characters, I just want to get them all drunk. :). I'm not sure if I'll keep on with the next book or not.

yeah, that did feel a little forced and repetitive to me. It'll be a while before I get to the next one anyway. Thanks for your input, Shay. Always welcomed!

I really liked both of them."
TRESSED TO KILL is one of my favorite cozies for this year!

You can tell it was written by a man. I've been married for almost 20 years and "real" romantic behavior is cooking dinner when you're tired and not acting like he's the first man who ever cooked or going grocery shopping for you and not calling you because he forgot what kind of laundry detergent/ dish soap/fabric softener you use because he wrote it down. (Or took a picture on his cell phone like my husband does.)

I agree with your description of "real" romantic behavior, Shay! I've been married for almost 36 years and my DH is the best! He cooks without being asked, he does the laundry and gets the bedroom nice and dark and keeps the dogs occupied when I have a migraine! However, I won't say the interaction of the characters in the Teddy Bear books is unrealistic, because my sister & her husband are like the characters. They will make you sick just being around them!

Have just ordered her last one, Diva Las Vegas. I'm disappointed there won't be more but I'm hoping there won't be too many loose ends.

Whenever I see this at the library, I pull it out. Something about the cover I just love, I guess. Then, for some reason I put it back.
Finished The Quick and the Thread by Amanda Lee this evening. Overall a pretty good read. You can read about my one giant nit here if really interested.

I've just read the first one and I've liked it a lot. I have to thank to everyone here too.

Glad to see others here get on board with this series! It's terribly underrated, IMHO, and I talk it up every chance I get.

Now here's hoping the publisher is encouraging this author to produce more books! :D

One thing - how much coffee can one person drink??

I just got this one and even though I haven't done any x-stitch in awhile I think I would have picked up on that, too. Used to do lots of x-stitch, can't begin to count the baby & wedding samplers I've done, but it gives me a terrible headache anymore when I do it.

I've thought about one of those. If the weather is bad this winter I may pick one up and give it a shot as I found a couple of small kits I'd forgotten I had and I'd like to do them.

she used phrases like "resonated inside her," "swirled the coffee" and one other one a lot. I'm hoping it gets better. Was this her first one?

The series actually gets on your nerves more the further along you read. I don't know if it's because the books themselves are more annoying or if the characters just continue to get on your nerves and it accumulates.
I finished Grace Under Pressure last night - er...very, very early this morning. I only meant to read a chapter or two before bed. Three hours later, I was almost done so had to stay up just a tiny bit longer to finish it. Ugh! A good mystery, but I am sooo dragging today.
While reading, I tried to keep an eye out for any details that might tell us in which state this book is set, since I know others had this question for the USA challenge. Sigh... The only real clues given were:
1. Southern Atlantic region, which narrows it down to a handful of states.
2. Not Florida, as it is mentioned her aunt moved there and had not been home since.
3. The only other town mentioned is Springfield.
4. Not Maryland as a secondary character was mentioned as also being wanted there.
Since Emberstowne itself is made up, I went with the assumption that Springfield is real and reached for the road atlas. No Springfield in North Carolina, but there is one in Maryland, South Carolina and Virginia - but as I said, I dont think it's in Maryland, as another character was "also" wanted there. Which narrows it down to Virginia or S. Carolina.
I saw over at Killer Characters that someone asked where Emberstowne is located, but though Hyzy replied back to the poster, she did not answer the question.
Oh, well - at least we have it narrowed down to two out of fifty. Maybe there will be more of a clue in the next book!

I read this last year and it was one of my favorite reads for the year. The next one,
