Last night I finished Mama Gets Hitched: A Mace Bauer Mystery. This series only gets better. The character growth is wonderful to see. And I found myself giggling out loud a few times. I can't wait for the next installment to catch up with everyone!

I finished Monsieur Pamplemousse by Michael Bond. It was pretty light on the mystery but I still liked the book. Michael Bond has a very dry sense of humor and sometimes it took me a second to realize how funny something was. Loved the parts of the story told from the dog's perspective. This must be a really popular series since there seem to be so many. I'm on the fence about whether or not I'll read another. I think if I'm in the right mood.
Susie in KS and Heather L - I loved Sketch Me if You Can too! I just finished Styx and Stones by Carola Dunn (a Daisy Dalrymple mystery) and Koala of Death by Betty Webb (Gunn Zoo mystery). Loved them both!
I finished Bookmarked For Death this morning. I thought this one was better than the first in the series. Tricia and her sister were much more likeable. I've enjoyed seeing their relationship grow. Hopefully the next two in the series contine in this vein!
Just finished reading Million Dollar Baby: A Marjorie McClelland Mystery by Amy Patricia Meade and I really enjoyed this book. I loved the interaction between Marjorie and Creighton and the fact the author didn't throw them together at the end of the book. It was a very satisfying book. And I was all set to reserve the 2nd book in the series at my library, but wouldn't you know it, they don't have the 2nd book! They have the 1st, 3rd and 4th but not the 2nd! I guess I will try and find it at Half-Price Bookstore.

Like I really need another new series :)
Finished The Secret of the Mansion by Julie Campbell this morning and then finished Whose Body? by Dorothy L. Sayers this evening. The former was just as good as it was the first time around, and the latter an interesting read. Sayers definitely has a bit of a different writing style.
I just finished Tomb with a View by Casey Daniels. I haven't read any other books of hers. I'll have to read more of them since I enjoyed the story even though I'm not a fan of first person POV. I really enjoyed President Garfield.
Sandra J wrote: "I just finished Tomb with a View by Casey Daniels. I haven't read any other books of hers. I'll have to read more of them since I enjoyed the story even though I'm not a fan of first person POV. ..."This series is a favorite of mine. I really liked this one, but my favorite is
!
I just finished
I liked it, but at times Abby was grating. I'm now reading
as part of the Summer challenge and I love it as much as the first two in the series. Probably going to put the third on hold at the library for when it comes in.
I just finished Holly Blues by Susan Wittig Albert. I have enjoyed this series very much, but this one was not my favorite. I am not a fan of Sally and don't always enjoy when she appears in the story.
I just finished Pepperoni Pizza Can Be Murder. I guess I started this series on the second book but it was on my library's new book shelf and the title caught my eye.
I just finished Death by Darjeeling by Laura Childs. Her Tea Shop Mysteries are really fun. I am waiting for the second book to come in at my library!
Just finishedNine Lives Last Forever. Didn't like it. Could it be because I didn't read the first book in the series?
Okay. I'm racing through the Daisy Dalrymple series. Just finished
and moving on to To Davy Jones Below. After that, I'll have to order the next few from Amazon. Although I have a bit of trouble understanding some of the English slang of the time, I'm enjoying this series immensely. Guess I need to check for a dictionary of sorts online somewhere. LOL
I just finished Jane and the Unpleasantness at Scargrave Manor by Stephanie Barron. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading more of her books.
Salena wrote: "I just finished Jane and the Unpleasantness at Scargrave Manor by Stephanie Barron. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading more of her books."I have read this entire series and really enjoyed each one.

I've held off reading the rest as I've been trying read books I don't want to keep. I like these enough to keep for reading again sometime.
Martha - At first I was going to put these up on swap but, like you, I've decided to keep them! Just finished
Jolly good reading! (or should I say "spiffing!"? LOL)
We could have a good "chin wag" over the books!! I don't know if that one was in use in the 20s, but I love it!!

I thought the same thing, Dru.

Then, they don't renew a contract when they don't sell whatever quota of books the publisher has in mind. I mean, I read a lot, but I've only heard of some new series that I really like from GR groups like this. Really appalling.
I just finished Lye in Wait. I really enjoyed it. I can't wait to read the next 3 books to see what's up with Sophie Mae and Barr! I liked the fact that there wasn't really that much soap making shop talk in the book. Sometimes I feel like I get way too much of an education with some of the "crafty" cozies. I don't have a crafty bone in my body so too much description starts my eyes to roll back in my head:) I read alot of the mystery series with a crafty bent..and enjoy all of them as long as the mystery is good but some tend to give me more eye rolling than others...lol
I just finished Alpine for You : A Passport to Peril Mystery as part of the august reading challenge. I didn't love it, but liked the main character enough by the end to order the next book in the series.
I just finished A Midsummer Night's Scream by Jill Churchill. I enjoyed it and will have to read a few more in the series.
Erin wrote: "

Erin wrote: "
I didn't like it. At all. I just wanted it to end."I've read all the books in this series, and I can certainly understand why you felt that way. The characters can be completely unlikeable, some more than others.
I just finished reading Holly Blues by Susan Wittig Albert. I love her China Bayles Novels I have read them all

This has happened to quite a few author friends of mine. How can you help? If you find a new mystery author you enjoy who is just starting a series, buy one of his/her first three books to help that author establish the sales numbers that will allow the series to continue. Then, tell all your friends about the series and ask them to buy one of the books. That's basically what the decision boils down to at the publishers: sales.
Good to know, Beth. That's what I do now, buy an author when they first start writing. Once you go to hardcover, I borrow from the library (except for rare exceptions). Great to hear my book buying policy helps new writers.
I just finished
. I didnt enjoy it as much as I hoped I would. Not enough happening regarding the mystery to pull me in and make me want to read.Although I did enjoy the talk and preparations of the cake tv contest. But that might be beacuse I am a cake decorater and love any talk of cake ..ha,ha. ;)
I would probably read others by this author if I saw them in the library.
Finished Murder in the Queen's Armes by Aaron Elkins yesterday. Still enjoying this series. I have book four, Old Bones on my TBR shelf, and am anxious to get to it as it is set in Mont St. Michel, but it will have to wait a bit. Too many other books ahead of it. Sigh...
I've just finished
for the "Around the world" challenge and I've enjoyed more than I thought, I've liked it a lot and I've found it interesting.

I just finished A Veiled Deception by Annette Blair.I really enjoyed it and am going to start the second one next. I enjoyed the storyline and the players were good.
Just finished
. It's interesting how your interests change as you "mature." Years ago, I looked at this series and thought "why do I want to read about two old retired ladies?" LOL. Now I are one and I'm enjoying the heck out of this series.
Kathie wrote: "I just returned Maisie Dobbs to the library. I could not stick it! I tried but it just did not engage me at all. I got about 25% through it."How funny, someone gave me that same book about a year ago and I have been trying to read it ever since. Like you, I just can't seem to stick to it, it's not "hooking me" at all and I'm not connecting with the characters.
I've just finished Sketch Me If You Can and had, to a lesser extent, the same problem. I liked it enough to read the next one (I love a good ghost story) but didn't feel invested yet in the characters and their futures. Plus, I tend not to be a fan of flashbacks, even when I recognize their value to the story line.

I liked Maisie Dobbs even though, like you said the pacing/plotting of the novel is odd. About 1/3 of the book is devoted to a flashback of the war. It did not read like a mystery at all. The second book in the series is more like a traditional, historical mystery. I think this is one of those series you could read out of sequence if you're inclined to give the series another try.
Well, I'm determined to finish this one, so I might be willing to try the next. I love the Daisy Dalrymple series and Phryne Fisher series, so I feel like maisy dobbs should be one I'd enjoy.
Just finished Deeply, Desperately by Heather Webber and can't wait for the next one. I think I like my books best with just a hint of irreverence. Whether it be laugh-out-loud, sarcasm, or dry wit, the humor just makes it easier for me to connect with the story.
I just finished a reread of Death of a Lake by Arthur Upfield. I really enjoy the Australian Outback settings in the late 40's and early 50's and love the character of Detective Inspector Napoleon Bonaparte in these mysteries.
Heather L wrote: "Finished Murder in the Queen's Armes by Aaron Elkins yesterday. Still enjoying this series. I have book four, Old Bones on my TBR shelf, and am anxious to..."One of my favorite authors. I just ordered Skullduggery (I have all the rest!)
