My most non-silly book that is out to date is probably "Sage" ... or maybe "Catch an Honest Thief." Probably Catch an Honest Thief.
Thank you, I already purchased both of them (I read your info at mobileread ;) ), so I'll try them (I don't know when, however, because all these challenges are cutting my cozy theme and I read less in summer --no public transport but car).

Well, I thank you. Next book announcement, if you send me a reminder, maybe I can make it up to you then. :>)

<- I just finished this and I really enjoyed it. It was a bit slow to get into, but I found it so interesting. It's amusing that Arthur Conan Doyle is such a featured character in the book when I find that Oscar is so much like Sherlock Holmes. He's even compared to him in the book. I'll have to find the other books in this series.
I just finished
by Heather Webber, and I loved it! I can't wait for Deeply, Desperately to come out ;)
Shay wrote: "One of the things that keeps me from enjoying this series more is her husband. I'm sick of his complaining about her not cooking, cleaning, etc. Especially in the books where she's working full time. I think he's behavior crosses the boundaries into abusive at times. I also hate that she doesn't stand up for herself. My favorites in the series are the ones where he makes only a minimal appearance. "I don't really like her husband either. He gets on my nerves. I like the series though. I read book 2, and I'm now on book 3. I reserved 1 from the library, and I also reserved 4, but I had to go through prospector, so it may be a while before I get it. I'm really enjoying the series.
I just finished up Trick or Treat Murder. Now I have to wait on the library for the next two I've reserved.
I have had to leave The Unfinished Clue, I feel it like a set of topics, one after other (the old and nasty husband, the weak son, the dancer (Mexican with an Italian maid -but both of them Latin :( ), the quiet and strong lover, the weak, feminine and selfish wife... too much for me.
I finished An Author Bites the Dust and still have to finish The Enchantment Emporium, but it's getting pushed off for more Upfield. I forgot how much I enjoyed these books. It's at least 20 years since I've read them.
I finished
and really enjoyed it. MUCH better than the last one. I'm reading
, the first in the Odelia Gray series and like it, so far. Odelia is a great character. Also reading
. The last few V.I. Warshawski books have been stellar, IMHO, and I have every reason to believe this one will be, too. I picked up an ARC of it as it's not due out until September.

I just read one where he said the house could use a good cleaning..I thought yep..get to cleaning buddy. I can't imagine doing all the things Lucy does and then having to tip toe around that fellow all the time. But I too like the books so I just ignore him. Except for the few times he does something nice...lol
Just finished reading
. Enjoyed it. Fun set of characters and the main thing I liked about this book was it kept me guessing who the murderer was! I thought it a little slow at first but definitely an enjoyable read.
Finished
yesterday and I really liked it. I always like when the sleuth doesn't become too stupid to live.
Erin wrote: "Finished

I stopped reading a series that I really loved (for the first couple of books) due to Too Stupid To Live!!!

I really hate "Mommy" mysteries where the main character endangers their child/children to solve a mystery. I'm sorry, but someone could have killed my best friend and I wouldn't put my kids in danger to solve their murder.
Finished Death by Darjeeling by Laura Childs during last night's storms (since I couldn't get on here). I have to say, I liked this a lot more than I did Keepsake Crimes, and I'm a paper crafter, not a tea drinker.
Shay wrote: "Maria wrote: "Erin wrote: "Finished

You know, I'm not even sure I could put someone else's child at risk. The whole point of solving a crime, especially a murder, is to protect the innocent...right???
:>)
Dru wrote: "I finished Something Borrowed, Something Bleu by Cricket McRae and I loved it so much that I immediately went and bought the first three books in the series."Cool, Dru! That's my next one to read. I just finished
Another good entry in the pet-sitter series (if you love animals). The protag is a part-time lawyer/pet-sitter and works with a lot of animal dispute cases. Pretty cool.
I finished
The Case of the Missing Servant by Tarquin Hall a couple of days ago. This is the first in a series set in India with a private investigator. The mystery was very good with background about life and culture in India. The PI, his co-workers and family were great characters. The author used a lot of unfamiliar words referring to Indian food, culture and expressions that were defined in a glossary in the back of the book. I don't mind looking up words, but it did get mildly annoying a couple of times...On the other hand, I learned some new words and a few Indian swear words too.
Miki wrote: "I just finished two by Linda Berry, Murder and the Family Tree and Murder and the Crossed Wires. Of the two, I liked the Family Tree best. I thought the author brought out more of the character of..."I absolutely love Linda's series, and Linda herself. She's a fellow Colorado mystery author and is as funny in person as she is in her writing. My favorite one of her books is Death and the Hubcap
, though I'm behind and haven't read the latest two in her series. There's a crazy character in the book who roams around town with a hubcap in his hands, pretending its a steering wheel of an imaginary car. The mystery begins when this character claims he ran over someone with his car and killed him--and there's a real body in the road. For more information about Linda and her books, go to her website: http://www.ogeechee.avigne.org/
I just finished Shoulder Bags and Shootings. I love this author's writing and can buzz through the book in just a few hours. The only thing is...I don't like the main character. She is by far the most shallow person in the cozy genre. Ugh...maybe it's because I'm so much older than she is(she's 24...and i'm 41).
Just read Dorothy L Sayers
. I have not read this author before and have been meaning to for quite some time as it is on many lists of best detective/mysteries.
I loved the dialogue particularly around the subject of advertising .... I think I enjoyed the comic aspects here more than the mystery .... but still well worth the read ...
I would like to read more and think I will start with the earlier Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries and are hunting some more for the group featured author next month ...
Leslie wrote: "I just finished Shoulder Bags and Shootings. I love this author's writing and can buzz through the book in just a few hours. The only thing is...I don't like the main character. S..."I read the first 2 books in this series. The first one was okay, but with the second one I just couldn't get around how shallow and self-absorbed Haley is.
Melodie wrote: "Leslie wrote: "I just finished Shoulder Bags and Shootings. I love this author's writing and can buzz through the book in just a few hours. She reminded me a lot of the character from Confessions of a Shopaholic. I loved the first book in that series, but the second one she seemed too self-absorbed to me and I couldn't deal with the rest of the series.
In Shoulder Bags and Shootings...I didn't read the first two, although I have them and will get to them. So, I'm not sure I will be able to deal with the first two books. We'll see. LOL
I just finished Murder Boogies with Elvis by Ann George. This the first of this series that I have read. I really enjoyed the characters, and look forward to reading more in the series. I think I will try and start at the beginning if I can get them at the library. I am trying new authors as I attempt to do the states challenge. So far, it has been great fun.
I finished Murder is Binding this morning - woke up around 6:45 to feed the cat (feline telepathy) and figured I could polish it off pretty quickly. Really liked it and will pick up the rest of the series after I've read some of the stash I've already accumulated. lol I thought I wouldn't be interested in cozies, but then realized after following this group and other blogs, that I've read some before without realizing they were cozies. They're a nice intermission from the serial killers and murder and mayhem I usually stick my nose into.

I've finished
, that I'd picked as a tricky solution for Summer word (The min character is called Maggie Summer). I've like it a lot at the end.

I finished
and really liked it. Odelia's a great character and this was a really good story. I didn't figure it out until almost the end.
Kim wrote: "I finished Murder is Binding this morning - woke up around 6:45 to feed the cat (feline telepathy) and figured I could polish it off pretty quickly. Really liked it and will pick up..."LOL, I go back and forth between "grizzlies" and "cozies" to balance myself. And I do love both.

I really like this series and I didn't really think I would when I picked this book up when it came out.
Just finished Grave Secret a few mins ago. Now starting on The Matters at Mansfield: Or, The Crawford Affair. Anyone else like her series?
Kim wrote: "I finished Murder is Binding this morning - woke up around 6:45 to feed the cat (feline telepathy) and figured I could polish it off pretty quickly. Really liked it and will pick up..."i'm big on the serial killer books too, just finished
Undone, but sometimes it is nice to take a break!
Caitlin wrote: "Just finished Grave Secret a few mins ago. Now starting on The Matters at Mansfield: Or, The Crawford Affair. Anyone else like her series?"I have one of her books sitting in my TBR pile. How good is she at keeping within the spirit of Jane Austen?
Finished Track of the Cat by Nevada Barr this afternoon. Loved it and wondering how it is I've never read her before. Will definitely be reading more by this author now that I've (finally!) discovered her.
Yesterday I finished Wild Indigo by Sandi Ault and have to admit I'm disappointed. At first, I was enjoying the book which is heavy on American Indian tradition as the book takes place on a fictional reservation in New Mexico. But then, seems like that's all the book was - visions and signs and rituals. There was very little detecting. When the mystery finally climaxed, I am still scratching my head as to exactly what it was and who committed it. I actually think I got the why. I don't think I'll be continuing with this series, unless I decide to give it one more try.
I've finished Death by Diamonds and I've liked it like the other two ones in the series. Waiting for the next one!

I was never too big on reading Jane Austen books so I am not quite sure, but the books read very well.
Heather - I recently read 13 1/2 by Nevada Barr. Don't know why I've never read any of hers before, but I will definitely be reading more.
I have read all of the Ann George series with the southern sisters. I was so sad when she died. I had looked forward to many more books in the series.
Just finished A Brush With Death, second book by Elizabeth Duncan. Setting is Wales and I love that small town and the characters. Very good book.
I just finished A Cold Day for Murder, the first book in the Kate Shugak series by Dana Stabenow. I enjoyed the story, and I would like to read more to see how Kate develops as a character.

Right now, I am almost finished with U is for Undertow by Sue Grafton. Not exactly a cozy, but I really enjoy the way she weaves description of characters and settings into her story instead of having them in stand-alone paragraphs.
