What Cozy Did You Just Finish Reading??? (Archive)

Tempting, but unfortunately not an option when riding with someone else. LOL

Lunch break. Of course. I would never read when I was supposed to be working. ;)
I did get those last few pages read before the end of the day. I snuck in a page here and there while waiting for invoices to print. I had set aside Sugar Creek yesterday to read Frankly My Dear, I'm Dead for the June theme read and rainbow challenges, so now I'm finishing off the last 25% of that (we're discussing it in Toni's yahoo group next week) before switching back to mysteries. Unless the romance I won off GR comes before the weekend. Then I might have to read that first. *g*

Most recently (among cozies) I finished The Weed that Strings the Hangman's Bag, the second Flavia de Luce book by Alan Bradley. I was charmed by both this book and The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie (Flavia #1).

by Diana Killian I really enjoy this gentle, funny cozy series."I do, too! Love her mom!
Finished Shakespeare's Champion by Charlaine Harris this evening. Friend was making fun of me because I had brought a flashlight with me to the fireworks, I was that close to the end. Wouldn't you know I only had a couple pages to go before I had to put my flashlight away. Ah, well...Rhythm & Booms is worth the sacrifice.
I recently finished The Benevent Treasure. This was a wonderful cozy mystery. I loved it! And I'm looking forward to reading more of Patricia Wentworth's work.
I finished Murder on the Mystery Tour by Marian Babson. I also enjoyed her Canapes for the Kitties which deals with a mystery writers' "colony" in a small English village-all eccentric, most with cats, and all needing to solve a couple of murders in the village.

Just finished A Vintage Affair by Isabel Wolff
. If you are in to anything vintage or like stories about love and friendship, this may be your cup of tea
I just finished Something Borrowed, Something Bleu by Cricket McRae. This is really an enjoyable series ;)
I finished Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Murder: A Revolutionary War Mystery today. It was okay, I'm thinking 2.5 stars. The language was a bit stilted. At first, I thought perhaps the author was trying to mimic the 1770's, but finally decided it was just stilted. The story did turn out to be intriguing although it took me a good 125 pages to get into this book. I doubt I'll read anything else by this author.

This one caught my eye in a recent B&N newsletter. Good to know it lives up to the hype, as I have added it to my wishlist.
Finished Shakespeare's Christmas late Sunday night and am now about 30 pages from the end of Shakespeare's Trollop.

I finished
on the 4th. Satisfied "R" on my summer challenge and Hawaii on the read the US challenge!
In some of the reviews I read some folks thought there was too much about designers and the fashions of the 20's through 80's. I loved it and the story of the French octogenerian with the story about WWII was a tear jerker. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did
just finished The Witch Doctor's Wife and it was great! This book is by the same author of the Magdalena Yoder series. For those who did not care for that series I would recommend this one. It is definitely worth a try. It is completely different and is something like a historical fiction too. Very interesting little facts about Africa in the beginning of every chapter.
Finished Shakespeare's Trollop this evening while heating up dinner. I guessed the "who" correctly, and had a feeling the "why" had something to do with a missing item, as indeed it did. Now its on to the final ( S O B ) book in the series, Shakespeare's Counselor.
Melodie wrote: "I just finished

Dru wrote: "I finished The Long Quiche Good-bye by Avery Aames"What did you think, Dru? did you love it?
Melodie wrote: "I just finished

Finished reading the final Lily Bard, Shakespeare's Counselor, before bed last night. Liked it well enough but, whoa! Those were a couple of really messed up characters in this one! I hope Harris picks this series up again some day after Sookie. I really like Jack and Lily, as well as many of the secondary characters (Claude, Carrie, Bobo), and feel that there could be many more stories for them.
I have to ask though, what is this fixation Charlaine Harris has with "C" names? Does it come from the fact her own name begins with the letter C? I mean, seriously. In the Sookie series we have Claude, Claudine, Claudette, Clancy, Mr. Catalliades, and...what the heck was that faery's name at the end of the last book? Ah, well... At least six "C" names in those books.
In the Lily Bard series there was Claude, Carrie, Carlton Cockroft, Cliff, Carla, Carol, Chandler and Calla. Plus there was a Krista. I know, begins with a "K", but it has the same sound as most of the "C" names.
And those are just the ones I remember! She really needs to mix up the alphabet a bit more, LOL.

I just finished The Cat Who Saw Red. Am working my way through this series by Lilian Jackson Braun and am enjoying them very much. Thought the 3rd & 4th ones were better than the first 2.
Martha wrote: "I just finished The Cat Who Saw Red. Am working my way through this series by Lilian Jackson Braun and am enjoying them very much. Thought the 3rd & 4th ones were better than the first 2."There were many years between the first two and the ones that came after. If I remember correctly, she wrote the first two in the 60's and then didn't write anymore until the 80's. She's in her 90's now and still writing!
Well, I finished The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie, and while it DID get better, it never got GOOD. Oh well, it wasn't the worst book I've ever read.
I just finished Drop Dead Stitch by Maggie Sefton. It has been a while since I read anything in this series. I think I missed one or two. I enjoy books about people who are creative.
I love books with needlework in them since I'm a knitter/crocheter from way back. I love beading, too. I know there's a book out there that deals with beading; but for the life of me, I can't remember the title so I can look for it.

BBS wrote the first one and then was killed in a car wreck and MacInerney took over the series, but only wrote one. It takes place in the Texas Hill Country, where both authors live(d) (and so do I!). Beads of Doubt and Bead on Trouble are the two in the series. It's actually a good series and I wish it would continue.
Great! Thank for the titles. I'll add them to my list and check them out. I'm always looking for new books much to my husband's dismay. But then he buys motorcycle parts, so he can't say much.
These beading cozies sound interesting and I've added them to my 'to read' list. It is so heartbreaking when we lose an author as in this case, but delightful to see another pick up the storyline! Perhaps we'll be lucky and see more of the series.
Last cozy I read was a week or so ago--LOVED it:Take the Monkeys and Run by Karen Cantwell
Lemme try this link thingie:
Take the Monkeys and Run
Really enjoyed the book. VERY crazy, zany, some over-the-top scene, but a lot of fun. The heroine is going through a bit of mid-life crisis at the open (suspects husband of an affair). Craziness ensues.
Just finished the Case of the Mystified M.D. by A. K. Arenz. It was an enjoyable book, I enjoyed the players in these books. But just two books right now.

I'm disappointed in this book as are many other people based on the reviews. It just doesn't measure up to the Sookie series.

They're very different though. I haven't read this series although I do plan to. I'll be very interested to see what it's like. What didn't you like - characters, plot, writing?

Not Erin, but I don't like the Harper Connelly series either. The main characters are extremely unlikeable. The plots are okay, but I can't get past Harper & Tolliver.

EXACTLY what Melodie said. I really liked the story line in it. It could've been great, but the characters were very cardboard. One dimensional - Tolliver sleeps with random waitresses all the time, Harper is panicky and panicky. I mean, the woman apparently can't be left alone for a moment. And if she's not panicky, she's giving people cold stares. Huh. I wonder why people don't like you when they meet you princess. Perhaps it has nothing to do with your ability.
I liked a couple of the secondary characters, but none of them ever really got enough description to make them come to life which is something I expect from Charlaine's books. I absolutely LOVE Sookie and all of the characters in that series. I don't understand how this series could have such poor characters.
Just finished Fatally Flaky. Maybe I've read too many Goldy books but this left me kind of flat though Goldy was as flaky as ever.
Barb wrote: "Just finished Fatally Flaky. Maybe I've read too many Goldy books but this left me kind of flat though Goldy was as flaky as ever."This one made me say I'm done with that series!
