I totally agree. I like a lot this series.

Well, I've just finished The Diva Runs Out of Thyme and I've not liked it (a exception, I see ;) ). Definitively, I won't follow the series. I don't know, I dislike the main character and the plot doesn't hook me either.

If we all liked the same books a lot of authors would go hungry!

I had a real problem with the Natasha and Sophie relationship, it drove me mad that Sophie had no back bone ...

Yes, I've seen doormats with more spirit.

I agree with you here Melodie. So glad that there is so much variety out there so that we can all find reads that are satisfying for us.

Heather: I liked all of the Lily Bard "Shakespeare" series. There are only 5 and there won't be any more. Nor will there be any more of the Aurora Teagarden books.

I'm heading to the library during my lunch break to see if I can find a couple of books that fit the June theme ........
Happy Reading Eveyone!

I'm having a hard time getting past the baby rats. I'm not sure I'm going to finish this one. : /

Did you like the first book? Was this one better?
I did like the first book (read in 2007), and had meant to continue with the series but just never got round to it until this week (too many books!). I really liked book two (Duke), maybe even a little bit better than the first.

Both are the first in each series and I am looking forward to reading more from each!

Sprinkle With Murder was great! Hope you enjoy it!!

Finished Aunt Dimity's Good Deed this evening. I really liked this one. Have decided to read one more in that series (Aunt Dimity Digs In) before setting it aside again for a while. I have loaners from a friend to get to and I don't want to become bored with this series through over-saturation.

When I first discovered Robert B. Parker's Spenser series some years ago I devoured them all one after the other without a break. Of course back then there weren't nearly as many of them as there are now! I haven't done that with a series since.

I have held off finishing that same series (southern sisters)!

This just reminds me that I can't read nearly fast enough :)

Also finished reading

Enjoyed reading all of the books. :-)

Oh! Is that the one set in Birmingham, AL.? I so enjoyed those! My daughter made a point of getting me a fridge magnet with Vulcan's rear view because I talked about them so much, lol!

Although I'm not in publishing I would assume that they have a way to spell check and grammar check before printing. I wish they would use it!!! The errors distract me from the story. One of my pet peeves."
UGH! Denise, this is one of my biggest peeves as well. I had a simialr experience last fall with a book by Heather Graham. I'd read others by her, and was greatly intrigued by the premise of this one, but it seemed you couldn't go two pages without some error slapping you in the face - and some of them were HUGE. Never felt more disgusted with a book in my life, and am now reluctant to pick up anything new by her. I would have stopped reading it altogther except I really wanted to see how everything tied together. I'm glad you enjoyed State Fair despite its many shortcomings!

I liked STATE FAIR, but not nearly as much as most of the others in the series. Dove is just about my favorite character and there wasn't near enough of her and what there was wasn't up to my usual expectations.

Knowing there are no more books I have delayed finishing this series."
Hah! I had the same reaction when I saw Sister Schubert's at Sam's and had to try them - delicious.
You know Anne George passed away in 2001, so sad, but you might enjoy this interview with her....

I may read the Sisters series again this summer just for fun - I enjoyed them that much!

I just picked this one up this weekend!

Melodie: I liked State Fair as well as the other books in the series. I liked getting to know more about Dove's sister, Garnet. I like that she and her husband as well as Emory's dad, Uncle Boone are moving to San Celina. As for Dove, I didn't see her portrayed any differently than in other books in the series. Dove has a pretty aggressive personality and tends to boss everyone around. Obviously that doesn't work with her sister. I also thought that Fowler did a good job of bringing in the bi-racial relationships/marriages and how Benni got a look at what Gabe and her other non-Caucasian friends have dealt with all their lives. Benni thought she knew but found out she really didn't have a clue. I especially liked the scene when the women were making the dolls and Jazz confronted the other African-American women about their "hair" comments. It was interesting that she "didn't get it". I learned something from that dialog myself. Overall I thought State Fair was an excellent addition to the series.

Kimberly: I love the China Bayles series, and I agree that it was good to learn more about McQuaid's ex-wife/Brian's mother, Sally. One thing I can say, China is more WOMAN than I am. I would not have invited one of my husband's ex-wives to stay at my house. (Actually, I couldn't have anyway, I was the first wife in both cases but did have to deal with the wives that followed me a few times over the years.)

Knowing there are no more books I have delayed finishing this series."
LOVE those Sister Schubert's rolls!

I love the characters in this series, too, and I read the books for them, not for the mysteries. I liked STATE FAIR, just not as much as others in the series. My favorite is still MARINER'S COMPASS. The racial tones to this story were interesting, tho she has dealt with Gabe's feelings of not quite knowing where he belongs in other books, like KANSAS TROUBLES. I have been very fortunate in my life to have had and still have some wonderful black friends, both male & female. And I have an Hispanic sister-in-law. It's helped me see how different this "life" experience is for all of us. I have heard that conversation about "good hair" a few times over the years.

Very true! Good point, Melodie. :-)
