I really enjoy J.B. Stanley's Supper Club friends. They really grew on me and I care about them and that community. I am a follower of Stanley's work, although I have not read her newest series the Hope Street Church series.

message 603: by Denise (new)

Denise | 618 comments I finished Laughed 'Til He Died: A Death on Demand Mystery and loved it as I have all of the books in the series. I was pretty sure I knew "who dun it" but I wasn't 100% until it was revealed. It was fun visiting with Max and Annie and I think it is time for them to have a baby (hint hint to Carolyn Hart in case she monitors this website).

message 604: by Susan (new)

Susan I didnt know that the next one was out. I won the first one through First Reads and loved it!

Susan - According to my list, book two is out in August. Dru must have been a lucky recipient of an ARC.

message 606: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 325 comments I just finished re-reading The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin for a challenge. I had forgot how much I love this book. I think it might be the book that I've owned the longest in my collection (which means its survived the culling for many interstate moves). If you didn't read this as a kid, run out and pick up a copy for an enjoyable read.

The book is an interesting mystery. New apartments are rented to a select group of families and singletons and soon after they all find out they are heirs to Sam Westing. But being an heir means playing his game to determine who murdered him.

From the back cover
THE PLAYERS: Mothers, fathers, children, a dress-maker, a secretary, an inventor, a doctor, a judge. And, of yes, one is a bookie, one is a bomber, one is a burglar and one is a mistake. All of them have motive.

The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin

message 608: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (dolphinlover) | 290 comments just finished Dipped, Stripped, and Dead (A Daring Finds Mystery, #1) by Elise Hyatt . The main character was a very real character. Dyce is a single mother and she has her flaws-which is what I find lovable about her. I can relate to her and making mistakes. I liked her best friend Ben too he reminds me of someone I knew. Good book and I look forward to getting the next book in the series.

message 609: by Missy (new)

Missy | 32 comments I just finished Glazed Murder A Donut Shop Mystery (Donut Shop Mysteries #1) by Jessica Beck . I thought it was okay. I thought some of the dialogue was forced and did not seem realistic. If Suzanne spoke to me the way she spoke to some of her family and friends I would not be visiting her donut shop too often. I read it, but don't think I'll pursue the series. Too bad, the cover was so cute.

message 610: by Erin L (new)

Erin L (wellreadmoose) | 505 comments I finished Dead Air (A Talk Radio Mystery, #1) by Mary Kennedy and really enjoyed it. I did get annoyed at the slight "romance" leaning mainly because it seemed tacked on and not really a part of the story. Other than that, I loved it.

I wasn't crazy about this one either. It picked up a little at the end, so I'll probably try the 2nd one, but if it's no better I'll be done. I didn't like Suzanne very much and her blatant snooping & investigating were just over the top. Lots of really good sounding recipes, tho!

message 612: by [deleted user] (new)

I have to say I love the Aunt Dimity series. I haven't read all of the books by N. Atherton. I don't want to finish the series.

Anyway, I just finished The Vanishing Violinist by Sara Hoskinson Frommer. It's a Joan Spencer Mystery. It was great.

Susie Fevella (susieinks) | 821 comments Melodie wrote: "Finished Farm Fresh Murder (A Farmer's Market Mystery, #1) by Paige Shelton, FINALLY! Didn't like it."

I had this on my library wish list, but I don't think I will be in a big hurry to get it. Seems like there have been quite a few members who didn't care for it ;(

message 614: by Susie (new)

Susie Fevella (susieinks) | 821 comments I just finished Dead In The Driver's Seat An Amanda Hazard Mystery (Amanda Hazard Mysteries) by Connie Fedderson by Connie Feddersen. This book was her second chance, since I didn't care much for one of the other books in this series. Crossed that series off my list!

Thanks Melodie.

message 618: by Kelley (new)

Kelley (booknerd69) Just started reading the latest by Denise Swanson, Murder of a Wedding Belle. I really enjoy this series, I just don't like the fact Skye is with Wally. I've never liked this relationship, but I like the series so much I try to overlook that fact. Not to mention, I don't like the way Skye and Simon broke up. She broke up with him because he kept something from her, but she had no problem with Wally when he did the same thing! It has never rung true to me.

But, like I said, I enjoy the series and the writing too much to give it up now. :)

I love this series as well. I have read Murder of a Wedding Belle (A Scumble River Mystery, #12) by Denise Swanson recently and found it to be very good. I do agree with you about the relationship with Wally. I think Simon would be the better choice for Skye.

message 620: by Denise (new)

Denise | 618 comments I just finished Hot Wired: A Bel Barrett Mystery. As I was reading it things seemed familiar. I think I may have read it before. I read it to the end though because if I had read it before the murderer didn't stick in my head. This is the last book of this series. For those that haven't read it the protagonist is a mid-age (late 40s maybe to mid 50s) college professor. There are 8 books in the series.

message 621: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, I love her books.

I really like the Flower Shop series. Just waiting for the next one this fall!

Nicola (murder-she-read) | 18 comments I've just finished Stamped Outby Terri Thayer and really enjoyed it. There were enough characters to add a bit of misdirection and the descriptions about rubber stamping prompted me to dig my own stamps out. Just ordered the next book :)

I read the second book in this series and thought it was even better than the first. If you loved "Sweetness" you are going to be "over the moon" with "weed".

message 631: by Kelley (new)

Kelley (booknerd69) Just finished reading Murder of a Wedding Belle by Denise Swanson and I have to say the series is starting to slow down for me. The whole plot line seemed like it was not thought out and just kind of thrown together. And now there seems to be another triangle involving Wally, Simon and Skye. First she has a huge crush on Wally, then falls for Simon (while still pining for Wally), leaves Simon for an asinine reason, falls for Wally, still has feelings for Simon, is engaged to Wally now, but still wants Simon...

If the story lines were better I could get past the triangle, but unless the next story has a better storyline, then I might be leaving this series for good.

I read it as soon as I found it at the library. It's every bit as good as the first. Flavia solves a present day mystery while she also solves one that happened years before - the death of a little boy whose mother has been somewhat unhinged every since. I hope Flavia has many more adventures in the future.

Susan (sumagoo) | 131 comments Just finished Wreath of Deception by Mary Ellen Hughes.

I enjoyed this book alot. A easy and fast read, love that the teenager in the book can be a teenager but still be a good kid. I have the second one coming from pbs should be here in a couple of days.

message 636: by Missy (new)

Missy | 32 comments I just finished The Teaberry Strangler (A Tea Shop Mystery, #11) by Laura Childs and I enjoyed it very much. This series is right up there among my favorites. I love the Indigo Tea Shop and Theo, Earl Grey and Drayton. As of the last two novels, I am really enjoying hearing about Theo's storybook cottage she wants to live in...as I would love to have the same sort of home someday. I wish there was teashop near me where I could enjoy a cup of tea like the customers of the Theo's shop.

This was one of my least favorites in the series, but I agree with you about Theo's house. I'd love a place like that, too! And even though I don't drink tea I'd like to visit her shop to try some of Haley's food!

That Kiki is a trip...and I love all her friends and family--even that mother-in-law!

message 639: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (Dreamworldbooks) | 8 comments I just read Give a Dog a Bone by Leslie O'Kane. Its the last book in the Allie Babcock dog trilogy and the last book O'Kane wrote under this moniker (she now writes the Domestic Bliss series under Leslie Caine).

I am sorry to say I didn't like the dog series as much as her fax machine series featuring Molly Masters...

message 640: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (dolphinlover) | 290 comments I just read Eggs Benedict Arnold (A Cackleberry Club Mystery, #2) by Laura Childs and I found it to be a 5 star book. I just love the concept of these 3 women being brought together by their tragedies and becoming stronger and independent. I also love that they share a restaurant and there are some really scrumptious sounding recipes too. I can only hope that I would have friends like these women when I really need them. Great book great story line and I love the setting of the book.

message 641: by Denise (new)

Denise | 618 comments I just finished The Teaberry Strangler. I love this series but have to say I didn't feel that this one was on the par with others in the series. I only rated it a 3 star, it was okay but I hope the next one is better. I'm just wondering if now that Childs has three series going if she isn't spreading herself too thin?

I only gave it a 3, too, and usually this series is a solid 4 for me with a couple of 5s. You could be right about spreading herself thin. I've never read her Scrapbooking series, but I really like the Cackleberry Club series. I like it better than the Tea Shop series. Maybe because the people are more "regular" type people.

message 643: by Ellery (new)

Ellery Adams (elleryadamsauthor) Just finished Pride and Prescience: Or, A Truth Universally Acknowledged by Carrie A. Bebris. Bebris did a great job maintaining an Austenian flavor throughout. Elizabeth and Darcy were charming. The mystery is rather transparent, but it was still a charming read.

Tammy I just finished "Wiped Out" by Barbara Colley. It's a Charlotte LaRue mystery series. Charlotte runs 'Maid For A Day' cleaning service and the setting is in New Orleans.
