❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Oh, after hijacking this thread with non-cozy talk, I'll redeem myself by saying I read Kneading to Die yesterday - the first in a new series about a gourmet cat/dog treat baker. An excellent book for a first in a new series. A bit more angst and woe is me than I normally like, but she'd certainly earned the right. Very good book!

Try Annette Blair's vintage mysteries...... If you like Alt, you'll like these.

I haven't read any of the Harper Collins series yet, and only a couple of the Aurora Teagarden, but the non-Sookie series I loved most by Charlaine Harris was Lily Bard (and I loved that they made appearances in two of the Sookie books).

I have two Sookie books to catch up on (last and most recent), and I think I have the last three of MJD's Queen Betsy series to read yet.

Have you guys read the Mercy Thompson or Alpha and Omega series by Patricia Briggs, or any of those by Jeaniene Frost?

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I read the first Bones book by Jeaniene Frost and it didn't do a whole lot for me, to be honest. I think I have the first Mercy Thompson book either on order or on the list to be ordered - is she the bartender?

The Alpha and Omega series doesn't hold a ton of interest for me - I'm not a huge fan of the werewolves sub-category. Don't really know why...I don't mind them in my books where they aren't the main focus of the plot, just not that interested in reading about them as the main plot device.

I'm dreading reading the last Sookie Stackhouse book - it's just not going to end the way I want it to.

Mercy Thompson is an auto mechanic and coyote shifter. The A&O series is an offshoot of her Mercy series. Sorry to hear neither these nor the Jeaniene Frost series didn't interest you. Both recent books by these authors kept me up WAY past bedtime.

I like the Cat and Bones books even though they're a bit more "romance" than I usually like.
You haven't read the Mercy Thompson books? I am shocked, shocked I tell you! GREAT series! You have got to remedy this! I like the Alpha and Omega books, but not nearly as much as the Mercy books.
I had the same feeling about the Harper Connelly books. Couldn't get past the brother /sister thing even though they're not really siblings.

lol... ok - I just got home and checked out my "to-buy" list and the first Mercy Thompson book is on it. I'll order it along with the Hex book Heidi recommended right now. I honestly thought I'd ordered it already, but nope!

Heather L - I didn't dislike the Bones book, but I don't know, it was one of those I finished, put down, and then never really thought about again. It might be one of those series I just need to come back to at some point and give it a re-try.

Zoe (bookwormfromathens) | 712 comments I finished The Big Kitty by Claire Donally a few minutes ago-what a pleasant surprise! The New England setting is excellent, the characters likeable and interesting, the plot smart and the writing kept me curious and eager to find out what would happen next. Of course, Shadow, the gray tomcat, steals the show and is the real protagonist of the story and the author even gives us his own point of view , something I really enjoyed. I'm looking forward to Cat Nap by Claire Donally and I hope this series goes on for a long time!

Denise | 618 comments I just finished A Novel Way to Die by Ali Brandon. I again could only give it a three star rating as I think Brandon is a bit wordy. I found myself wanting her to get to the point. The reveal was very good however and I look forward to the next book in the series.

I know of at least one that can walk through walls and another that disappears and reappears . . . .

And Heidi wrote : "On a side note I love this group! "

This is a problem I have, I seem to keep collecting series that I want to read but haven't gotten around to reading yet. I need to stop doing that because if it turns out I don't like it I will have all of these books!

I do the same thing! I thought I'd like the Coffee House Mystery series by Cleo Coyle because I love coffee and used to be a barista, but I thought the first one was so ridiculous and spent way too much time telling me stuff I already knew about coffee that I don't really want to read the rest, even though my mom gave me like the next 5 books. Maybe I should give the second book a try though anyway. :)

Perhaps it will just prove to be a sophomore slump and the third book will find it's groove.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I've finished reading both Aunt Dimity and the Lost Prince and Board Stiff. Aunt Dimity was excellent as always, and Board Stiff was a great first book in a new series.
